Metformin ?
I have been searching on here and online off and on for 2 weeks, reading about metformin and I just cant find anything that makes me feel better about taking it. I was diagnosed T2 last Oct. a1c of 7.3 or so. Over 8 months I lost 30+lbs and started exerciding (cardio and weights) regularly. My a1c only went down to 6.6. My…

Glucose spikes
I was flipping between the 3 English speaking channels here in my hotel in Japan last night and a special caught my attention. It was called glucose spikes. You could probably Google it. Anyway, they were explaining how glucose spikes cause heart disease and alzheimers. They talked about low carb diets and how they work,…

Latest a1c
Just got my latest a1c. 5.8. Not bad but not where I want it. Between low carb eating and exercise I was sure hoping for 5.5 but it's better than the 7.9 of 2 years ago.

Protein bars
I love quest bars but I am trying to find a bar that is low carb and a little lower in protein that still tastes good. I am trying to cut back on my protein. I travel a lot and quest bars are very convenient. Thx

Energy
Before I get bashed, I am not in ketosis. My carbs are under 100 and some days really low but I have never committed to ketosis. I bake with almond flour and eat a lot of cauliflower and salad. I occasionally eat one french fry or chip if my wife has them. But i do stop at 1.I have been low carb for over a year now and…

a1c up a little
Just had my first blood work since I started 500mg of metformin once a day. I am discouraged because it went from 5.9 to 6.3. After getting to 5.9 with low carb diet and exercise , I have slacked a little but have still lost a few more lbs. That on top of the 500mg metformin I thought would get me under 5.5 so to see 6.3…

hydrochlorothiazide
I have been reading articles today about hydrochlorothiazide causing t2 diabetes. I was on that for about 6 years until my last check up last month. Now I am wondering if that was part of my problem and if it can be reversed. Here is an interesting article I found: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2796286/ Have…

lack of energy still
I have been low carb, not keto, for about 2 months now. My energy is still terrible. I went for a fasted run this am and felt horrible. Got home, finished my work out, ate some almond flour pancakes and cut grass. Felt like I was literally going to pass out cutting grass. I don't log or strictly count carbs but I know what…

lack of energy
I see posts like this occasionally and here is mine. I have been eating low carb for over a month and I have zero energy. My running has really regressed. I don't log or track. I don't think I have hit ketosis but that's a guess. I'm pretty sure my carbs are well under 50 most days. My weight hasn't changed either. My wife…

low carb vs keto
For those that have been doing this awhile. Do you think there is benefit in low carb but not all the way into ketosis? I have been working hard to keep my carbs low and I have avoided the bis ones like potatoes, bread and pasta. I love quest bars, they have good protein and low sugar but there are 20 g of carbs or so. Can…

Heavy Bag
Before anyone says it, I did a search. There was nothing recent so I thought I would ask again. Today is my birthday and my wife and kids gave me a gift card to Dicks, for the purpose of buying a heavy bag. I have always talked about it but never wanted to spend the money. I have googled heavy bag workouts, I was just…

fruit/dairy/snacks ?
I have read about low carb for years and tried it to different degrees but never full on Atkins. I was diagnosed as a T2 back in October and I have lost 30lbs but my sugar is still too high (a1c 6.7) I have really been cutting back but not out. I have several questions. I have a protein smootie with about a cup of blue…

interesting article on distance running
http://www.militarytimes.com/story/military/pt365/2015/06/19/new-running-research-adds-to-age-old-distance-debate/28916317/ As a Marine, I have run a lot. Distance, speed, intervals, you name it. This article really has me thinking though. I am trying to get back in shape with a goal of running a 10 k again. Maybe a 5 is…

gastric bypass etc
I don't mean to offend anyone but I'm sure I will. That being said, it irritates the $ hit out of me when people that have had surgery to lose weight give advice like eat small meals, walk, whatever. It may all be valid but that's not how you did it so don't tell other people how to do it. Congrats on doing something to be…

Eating while travelling
I travel a lot for work and eating out kills me. You can only eat so many salads. What are some good choices some of you actually make? Chicken versus hamburger, grilled versus fried. I get those but it is tough meal after meal to make good choices. I spend a lot of time in airports where the only otions are fast food…

I'm back.....
I lose and gain about 15/20 lbs a year. Just keep gaining a few more than I lose. To keep a long story short, I have a fatty liver and and when my weight goes down, it gets better. When I gain, it's worse. I have been pre diabetic for years and back in Oct they told me I was diabetic. My highest weight was around 225. I'm…
