Fish sauce?
I've been trying to increase my pantry for Asian flavors. I often see "fish sauce" in Asian recipes. What the heck is it and please tell me why it is not disgusting. I love most seafood, but fish sauce sounds awful!

Restaurant leftovers
Weird question. I frequently take home half my meal from a restaurant. But invariably it tastes and feels much greasier when I reheat it than it did originally. Even things like an omelette or sautéed veggies. Any ideas why?

Should you be able to pronounce the names of product ingredients?
Do you think that a criteria for a safe/healthy product (food, health, or medical) is that it contains ingredients you can pronounce? Isn't this more a reflection on the language skills of the consumer than the efficacy/safety of a product? (This could be scary since the average American tests out a 5th grade reading…

Yesterday’s bike ride
It was 40 degrees at the start and I couldn’t find anyone to ride with but it was too beautiful a day to stay home. This was my first solo road ride and brought me to 100 miles since getting my bike 2 months ago. 15 miles along Sinclair Inlet. You can see Mt Rainier in the middle of the 3rd pic.

Swimming data on my Garmin VA3
I am still getting acquainted with my Garmin VA3. The swim data on type of stroke is completely inaccurate. On the day shown below, I did all freestyle (purple) for the first 50 minutes (approx). I did NO breastroke (red). I did backstroke (green) only on the last few laps, yet it appears on length 9 when I was actually…

Elevation on watch vs MapMy app
So I got both my watch and app set up and started at the same time for yesterday's bike ride. (Amazing I know lol.) My Garmin VA3 gave me 256 ft elevation gain and MapMyRun/bike (on iPhone) gave me 850 ft. Is this absolute difference vs cumulative gain or what?

The proof is in the picture.
Old vs new leggings. I cleaned out a drawer to make room for my new bike clothes and came across my old knock around leggings. If they weren’t in my drawer I’d never think I actually once needed these. Always keep a couple pieces of old clothing as a reminder of your progress!

Moving from SL 5x5 to a 4-day split
I've done Sl 5x5 for 2 years and recently decided to try BB LIIFT4 which is a 4-day split. After always having done legs every workout (regardless of SL or any other workout), it seems a bit slacking to do legs only 1 of 4 days. This is especially concerning if I can only get in 3 sessions a week. I realize I'm doing more…

Biking up hill
I'm having a BLAST riding, first time in 30 years! So much fun. Still in the learning curve here and looking for technique tips for biking uphill. I know about getting into gear early. When the going gets tough, my front wheel gets quite wobbly and at some point I have to stop from safety concerns. I've read that to help…

Bike buying tips?
I'm thinking about getting fitted for a bike. This would be for road biking and tri-sprints. I have not biked for 30 years and that was short, flat distances on a 3-speed Schwinn. I am open to buying used once I understand what I need. I will talk to the bike shop and get fitted, but don't know what to ask about. What…

A little present for triathletes and anyone who thinks they're "too old" to do ___ (fill in answer)!
I participated in my first tri sprint yesterday. I did the swim leg for a relay team and now plan to get a bike to do the whole event next year. We were graced with the participation of the Iron Nun, Sister Madonna Buder. The race director Lisa made arrangements for her to come. It is possibly the last year of this local…

My First Triathlon
4 years ago I couldn't walk up my own driveway. Today I completed the swim leg of my first sprint triathlon.
