Commitment Issues
I could use some motivation and tips for staying committed to the process. When I stick to my calories and make time for exercise I lose weight, seems simple right ?? I tend to throw in the towel after a day or two and go right back to bad habits. I know how to do this, why I need to do this, but I get so overwhelmed when…

Hunger - tips to take the edge off between meals and at night
What have you tried that actually works to take the edge off true hunger, stomach growling, irritable, my body needs food hunger ? There are days when I feel very hungry between meals or at the end of the day when I've used up all my calories. I always eat my exercise calories and have my goals set to only 1/2 pound a…

negative thinking gets in the way of success
How do you stay motivated and remain positive even when you have a long road ahead ? I'm struggling. I know how to do this and it's such a simple concept but my negative thoughts about the process and the level of commitment seem to trip me up. I know losing weight will benefit my health and I'll feel stronger, get to wear…

I have a bad attitude :(
Serial dieter here, just turned 50 years old and heavier than ever (about 60 lbs to lose). I know how to lose weight, I know how to track and use a food scale, I know how many calories to eat, I know which exercises I can stick with, I know which foods are my trigger and I know not to eliminate items I enjoy. I have done…

Trader Joe's shopping list
Planning a trip to Trader Joe's tonight. What's always on your shopping list ? My favorites: sweet and salty pecans, veggie fried rice, garlic marinara sauce, chicken sausage, white cheddar corn puffs (pirates booty), taquitos, potstickers, frozen tri color peppers, couscous.

fresh start and a clean house
So I am back at it, starting fresh again. I am a high volume foodie so even a small calorie reduction causes crankiness, stomach growling, whining, lets just say I am not pleasant to be around. This first week back was rough but successful and I'm adjusting. To distract from overindulging and excessive snacking I've tried…

daily non exercise steps, do they count ?
I have not purchased a fitbit yet but I do use a pedometer to track my NON exercise steps. Most of my activity is bike riding and the punching bag which doesn't register on a pedometer as steps so I count it separately. At the end of the day I still log approx. 7500 or more steps in addition to the other exercise. Should I…

How much time do you think you spend on MFP each day ?
I feel like I'm here all the time, always checking in, reading the message boards and offering support to others. If I added it all up it would probably be at least 3-4 hours a day :)

Clothing that no longer fits
Just curious how long you waited before getting rid of the old clothes that no longer fit and what did you do with them ? Did you hang onto them until you were down a few sizes? I'm still wearing the larger clothes even though they are falling off my body. At some point I will pack them all up and bring them to Goodwill…

What size kettlebell for a beginner ?
How many pounds did you start with ? I'm thinking about adding some kettlebell exercises but not sure what weight to use. I am a beginner, not a heavy lifter, and I work out at home. In addition to cardio (bike, walk, punching bag) I have been using 10 and 12 pound dumbbells for strength training. Would I start with a 20…

my first WHOOSH
at least I think it was a whoosh. I had a 6 week stall where I fluctuated up and down the same 1 pound. I can't even begin to tell you how aggravating it was but I was determined to not let it derail me. Anyways, in the past 2 weeks I have lost 6 pounds !!! I'm in shock since my typical loss is around 4 pounds a month. I…

making it happen
Here I am again. I have started and failed more times than I can count. I typically throw in the towel within 3-4 months because it's just too much work and I get aggravated and impatient. I am now 24 weeks in and 24 pounds lighter. I still have a long way to go but it feels different this time, like I can actually do…

cheesy queso chicken
I was craving Mexican food so I threw this recipe together and it was awesome, under 200 calories. Chicken breast (150 calories) sprinkle generously with perfect pinch Mexican seasoning and grill. Top with jarred queso sauce, I used Target brand Archer Farms and warmed it in microwave (35 calories for 2 tbsp.) A little…

Trying to decide if I should buy a FITBIT
I use a pretty accurate Omron pedometer that tells me regular steps, aerobic steps, calories burned, and distance. One of the issues is that most of my exercise doesn't even register on it since I do a lot of bike riding and punching bag. So the pedometer just picks up the daily steps of walking around the house, errands,…

annoying water retention - how to get rid of it when you have a stubborn body
It seems like the water weight comes on fast but takes so long to come off. When I'm up 2-3 pounds overnight after a week of meticulous counting and tracking I know it's from excess sodium or hormones (over 40 hormonal hot mess) so I try not to panic. The problem is that my body does not want to let it go easily and it…

20 pounds down - woot woot !!!
Finally lost 20 pounds, 40 more to go. I can do this :)

burger on the grill - calories
I made my own burger with 90% lean ground beef. I weighed it raw and cooked. Raw was 7.75 ounces, 49 calories per oz = 380 calories Cooked was 4.8 ounces, 58 calories per oz = 278 calories That's a pretty big variance, which is more accurate ? I don't want to cheat myself either way.

upper arm jiggle
I know weight loss will get rid of some of the flab and jiggle on your body. I exercise at home and have a good routine alternating between my bike, the punching bag, walking, squats, etc. For my arms I've been doing reps using 5 & 10 lb free weights and doing stair push-ups (until I get strong enough to do a normal one).…

Happy but mad at myself
I'm so glad that I found this site and proud of myself for finally putting in the effort to lose this weight. I'm down 18 pounds since the end of March, which is a huge accomplishment since I've started and failed more times than I can count. I'm happy, but still mad at myself for letting the weight pile on in the first…
