daily non exercise steps, do they count ?

I have not purchased a fitbit yet but I do use a pedometer to track my NON exercise steps. Most of my activity is bike riding and the punching bag which doesn't register on a pedometer as steps so I count it separately. At the end of the day I still log approx. 7500 or more steps in addition to the other exercise. Should I be counting this as extra activity so I get more calories or just pat myself on the back and be happy that I'm moving more ? I wasn't able to find an exercise entry for daily steps, just walking.

From the Help section: http://myfitnesspal.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/300784-can-i-convert-my-pedometer-steps-into-calories-We account for some amount of walking based on the "activity" level in your profile. If you take an additional walk for exercise and would like to get credit for the additional calories, we recommend logging this as "walking" in your Exercise diary, and recording the number of minutes walked.0

thanks for that link. so when I select walking to add to my exercise it wants mph and time but this is accumulated steps throughout the entire day rather than a designated walk so I'm unsure how to log it. Maybe I should just change my profile setting from sedentary to lightly active to account for this, does that seem reasonable?0

Yes, that's reasonable. You are above the sedentary range. Trying to log all your steps results in some of them being double counted.

sweet
I just got 200 more calories which I really need, I've been struggling lately.0 -
I wouldn't count them and just eat at maintenance to see what happens my guess is you will lose some weight. I average 20,000 everyday sometimes over 30,000 steps once 52,000 plus steps. I can't imagine being able to lose weight eating back all those calories..

That is truly impressive. I'm thrilled when I hit 10,000.
Since I'm far from maintenance I'm happy with any extra calories I can get while losing.

I eat back 50% of my steps on my iPhone which is synced with mfp.0

If you are losing weight ... sure.
But if not, just "pat myself on the back and be happy that I'm moving more"

How does My Fitness Pal count non-exercise steps? I see them syncing from my iPhone but I don't see any "credit" for them. My profile is lightly active. Thanks for any guidance.0
