Testosterone Therapy
I had posted about getting stronger during my calorie deficit, and it is an ongoing debate in this forum. There were some interesting comments about testosterone therapy or something along those lines. Interestingly more, I just saw this article in Google News today which some might find interesting. Personally, if I was…

Maybe this is crazy thinking....
I was tracking along pretty well. I had read here in the last week or so about the "Whoosh Effect" which not only do I personally believe to be true, but experienced a week ago. This great few days on the scale was followed by a predictable plateau, since I don't believe sustained weight loss for days in perpetuity is…

When people finally start to notice
This has been quite funny. I have had two people notice my weight, the first comment was "you have lost weight and look great, are you around 220 now"? (I was at 202). Then tonight a guy in front of a group said "hey, you have lost weight, what have you lost 30 pounds, maybe 40"? (I have lost around 20). So yes people…

Lifting in a deficit
I had to post here that while I am still in a deficit to lose weight to my goal, I have been lifting 3-4 times a week and doing cardio 5-6 days a week. I continue to increase the weight that I am lifting. I am 54 years old if that matters, and somehow I think it does, since logically it seems like at some point we just get…

When carbs get too low
I read on WebMD that as long as you don't go over 3-4 days with 50grams or less of carbs, ketosis won't set in. First I read where Ketosis is not a good thing, then it seems to be that Ketosis is just when the body starts burning fat, which we are striving for. So i wanted to run this by 'the pro's' in MFP. I am…

Giving Blood
I gave a pint of blood today and in googling it surmise that a pint equates a pound, but that you quickly gain that back with your next meal and fluids. However, I also read that it can take days to gain that weight back. Not that this is THAT big a deal, but should I add a pound to my weekly weigh in tomorrow morning,…

Gym Hogs Vent
My Gold's Gym has 1 incline bench and 1 decline bench. Yesterday a guy got on the incline bench right before me and the only thing I did not do right was ask him how many sets he had to go. I did not 'hover' over him waiting. I simply walked on the inside circular type track waiting for him to finish. This guy did 6 sets,…

Popcorn
Is the MFP measure for prepopped kernels or for popped kernels to be measured?

Daily Calorie Goal Needs Manual Updating
I was wondering when MFP changed the calorie goal as we lose weight. I went into My Home, then Goals, and hit the reset button without changing anything, and that caused MFP to update. That would suck to keep eating a larger number of calories and wondering why the scale was not moving as much.

10,000 Steps a day
Does MFP have 10,000 steps built into the regular daily calories burned for any of the activity levels?

Being wrong on the calorie goal
My 2 pound loss per week goal puts my daily calorie goal at 1,820. For some reason I started with it at 1,500. I probably made this same error the last time I did the 12 week challenge, and I am wondering if missing the daily calories that much to the low side could be a reason for it being harder to consistently lose…

Muscle does not weight more then fat
How interesting. I always heard muscle weighs more then fat, and maybe life was to busy to read a little on the subject to find out how simply logistical it is how this works. Regardless, I think I get it now. Muscle takes up less space then fat. I read a great analogy comparing the look of a pound of raw potatoes vs a…

2 ounces of vinaigrette dressing 312 ounces?????
Are you kidding me? The Quinoa Salad with fixings is 450 or so calories. How can 2 ounces of vinaigrette be that many calories?

Carb Fat Protein %'s
I went with what MFP gave me starting out, which is 50% Carb, 30% Fat and 20% Protein. I am 54, 5'10" 203, down from 213 on Dec 26th, with a goal of 1,500 cal a day. I am currently lifting upper body 3 days a week, 60 minute workouts, and brisk walking 30 min to 60 minutes a day. I eat most of my calories burned and…

Ab Exercises
I read that crunches are the worst exercise that one can do. I am 54, in good shape, play a lot of tennis and want to know what would be the best ab exercises to do, and how many different exercises and sets I should look to do of each. I work upper body one day and am close to starting lower body again as I am in month 8…

Actually Calorie'ing a Salad
First time I have ever broken down a salad for its actual caloric components. I am at a nice restaurant and got one large grilled chicken caesar salad. Turns out it has Asiago Cheese (2 oz), 5 ounces of Grilled Chicken, 2 cups chopped romaine lettuce, and 2 ounces of caesar salad dressing. Total count? 521 Calories! Wow.…

Lag time from today's efforts
So with each calorie I take in today and each calorie that I burn today, is there a rule of thumb as to when what I do today will show up on the scale? I remember the last time that I was on a plan, if I had a big evening dinner and blew it out, it would show up the next morning and take days to work off. BUT, it did not…

Proteins (meat, fish, chicken...)
Logic says the cooked portion is what should be weighed. Is this correct? Seems like ANY food that will be cooked should be weighed 'post cooking' since that is what is going in our mouth. But does MFP food selector count calories for pre-cooked or cooked foods?

3 meals or spread out?
If given the choice between eating your three meals at each sitting or taking each meal and nibbling them away all during the day, is either way better or does it matter?

When does the trend turn?
So when you are enjoying food and overeating and had your fill of holiday food and bread pudding on top of several months of not watching your caloric intake, your body is showing the effects in various places, pretty much different for everyone. In my case it really shows up in my face. When you start a diligent plan (the…

Is there a pattern?
So I am doing the Gold's Gym 12 Week Lose-Weight-A-Thon 'again', and I have three historical sets of data from 2013 and 2015 and 2016 (pre-surgery). I jot down daily weight and compare daily and weekly up and down in weight (just my 'more healthy' obsession.....). Do any of you, when tracking your weight daily or weekly,…

How long till people noticed?
So is it the amount of weight lost that other people notice on us, or is the passage of time along with the amount of weight lost important to it really showing? Like say you drop 25 pounds in 3-4 months, will it show up as much then or will your body show the same pounds loss a little better or more noticeably after…

Men - measuring your waist
So is there a real answer to this one? There are so many different opinions on this. Seems like the best one I could find was to measure right at the belly button to get the best indicator of fat accumulation. I am measuring semi flexed and relaxed, since there seemed to be no real answer there either. Sucking in your gut…

Top Weight
I had hip replacement surgery and am starting back up on my diet now that I can work out and stick to a plan (I am not good without a plan to stick to). I put the weight back on that I had lost pre-surgery, and the last time I started my diet I started at almost the exact weight as I am now. This is my third round of…

Actual loss per week & watching weight daily vs weekly
I have a daily graph from 2013 and 2015, and I weighed daily then and do now. When I subtracted the aberrational large amount of weight lost in the first week from my total weight lost to my end goal (which I hit both times), my actual weight lost per week was .92 pounds in 2013 and 1.23 pounds in 2015 lost per week. I saw…

Getting Our Most Accurate Current Weight
Coming off hip surgery and having cut off pain killers, I am having issues with insomnia that will pass, but I am not able to get an accurate take on my weight. With normal sleep patterns, weighing first thing in the morning after doing our business gets the accurate current read. But when I might be eating or snacking at…

Need to make sense of this
So my MFP formula is to lose 1 pound a week, so -500 cal per day. I am keeping track weekly of my scale weight and my MFP calculated gain/loss per week. My starting weight was 213.8 on April 25th. Today I weighed 196.8, a loss of 17 pounds total, or 2.125 pounds per week, but that first week is always iffy since we lose so…

QUICK MFP Q
It looks like if we update our status daily entering our daily weight, it automatically gets adjusted to the settings page where MFP automatically adjusts our daily caloric needs. Is this correct? Thank you!

Diet after Hip Replacement
So my doc and physical therapist told me to make sure and not cut my calories during recovery since my hip will be needing lots of nourishment. What I had not counted on was how many calories must be burned while just walking on my hip and doing the exercises I am given to do, and just the normal getting around on a new…

Injuries draw on all resources
So I had hip replacement surgery last Monday. Today was my first day back in the gym, 'gingerly' doing some upper body. My last workout was last Saturday. I set the weight on my first exercise at 75% of my last amount (doing 4 sets of 8). I guess I was kind of surprised that this was a good starting point on what turned…
