Being wrong on the calorie goal

My 2 pound loss per week goal puts my daily calorie goal at 1,820. For some reason I started with it at 1,500. I probably made this same error the last time I did the 12 week challenge, and I am wondering if missing the daily calories that much to the low side could be a reason for it being harder to consistently lose weight last time. Not to mention that MFP automatically lowers the daily calories as we lose weight (I don't know when they do this), so that would put that much more stress on the body.
So my question is what happens to the body and it's ability to lose weight consistently when you miss your calorie goal to the downside by this much? Thanks.
