Weight gain has resulted in big increase in waist size!
I started here in September. I'm 5'3 and weighed just under 51 kgs which was ok on the bmi scale but I wasn't happy with how I looked - I felt too thin. My goal was to reach 60 kgs - I'm now at 57.5. I don't think that's been too fast. Generally I look better but my waist size has gone up by about 2-3 inches and is now…

Weight loss during illness?
For the past 2-3 weeks I've been pretty much house and sofa bound with a nasty and persistent chest infection. Until then I was gaining steadily at around .25 kg per week. I've not been working out or exercising anything like as much as usual and yet when I weighed myself today I've lost 2 lbs! I'd expected more of a gain…

Unable to do parallel squats!
No matter how hard I try! If I go lower,my knees are too far over my toes and they hurt. I'm short with short legs - I don't know if that's the reason. Any tips and does it matter a lot?

I've reached my target........
...now what? Lol. Do I continue at a smaller surplus and work on lifting, eat at maintenance? Would appreciate advice. I'm tempted to continue gaining- I quite like the new me - but suspect it's mainly fat that I've gained!

3500 calories = 1lb of fat - is this fact or myth?
I'm trying to calculate my personal tdee because with the calories set by mfp I've been gaining at a rate of around 1 lb a week and all the online tdee calculators give different results. So (sorry, this is boring !) I tried to work it out by calculating my average calories per week (over 8 weeks)and then subtracting 3500.…

How do you calculate weight of things like chichen thighs etc?
You don't eat the bone obviously....Do I just do a rough estimate? ( Please don't say I have to cut it all off the bone and then weigh it?!)

Do calories from alcohol count?
I've read that calories from alcohol don't "count" because it's metabolised in a different way. Can anyone explain this? I know whenever I've stopped drinking for any length of time I lose weight so find it hard to believe. I guess what I'm asking is,do I include it in my diary? I'm talking about maybe one small glass a…

Is there a limit on the amount of protein you should eat in one meal?
I think I remember reading on here that it doesn't matter how much protein you consume in one go. I've just been speaking to someone who told me you shouldn't consume more than 30 grams in one hit because it just gets stored as fat. Is this true?

Not eating enough carbs-does this matter?
I'm having no problem reaching my daily calorie goal and often go over it slightly. I always hit the protein goal and go over with fat but struggle to get the carbs. I've realised this could be due to the database as some foods don't have carbs recorded but I do find it hard to fill up on carbs as my appetite is small.…

High calorie foods for bad days?
Woke this morning to the familiar signs of an ulcerative colitis flare. So for the moment, high fat and high fibre foods are a no no.:( Any suggestions as to what I can eat to keep up the calories? I don't want to undo all the weight gain. Unfortunately I think lactose is a culprit so no milk, cheese or yoghurt either.

Any IBD-ers out there(or anyone )-could do with some advice!
I have ulcerative colitis and recently lost weight (more than I was happy with )partly due to poor appetite and partly restricted diet. I'm currently on entyvio and in remission so thought it was a good time to try and gain weight. So far I'm doing OK and gaining weight at around 1 lb a week but ...I feel so damn bloated!…

Shoulder injury
I'm a newbie to exercise and have started the nerd fitness beginners programme. I have suffered with neck and shoulder problems on and off for years and after doing the routine this morning, felt something "click" in my left shoulder and now feel pain in my neck and down my arm. I know I need to rest it! How long should I…

Muscle soreness after working out
I've just started doing the nerd fitness beginners programme and am still sore (in my thighs)2 days later - I suspect the lunges as its a new move for me. I'm talking, it hurts to go up and down stairs! I'm not complaining but want to know, do I wait for the soreness to go before I repeat it? I really want to aim to do it…

Recommendations for scales
I have 2 pairs of scales - one mechanical and one digital -and never seem to get a consistent reading from either of them (I'm talking a difference of 2 kgs within about 30 minutes ) I know as long as it shows a gain, the actual reading doesn't matter but there is no consistency at all. Can anyone recommend a particular…

How accurate is the calorie counter?
I'm finding that the calorific value which comes up when you log some foods is way over. For example, a pizza express margherita pizza came up as nearly twice as much as it actually is. Is there a way I can amend or enter the calories manually?

I should probably see my gp but ..
...since starting weight gain I've had a return of menopausal hot flushes and other symptoms. (I'm nearly 61!) Could it be related - I know exercise /dieting can lead to hormonal fluctuations?

Gaining too fast?
Me again - sorry! Having always struggled to gain weight, I weighed myself this morning and in less than 3 weeks since starting this programme I've gained nearly 4 kgs. Admittedly the starting point was after being weighed at hospital and their scales are probably more accurate but even so it's a lot. I'm not complaining…

Strong curves
Can this programme be done at home with minimal equipment? I don't have access (or the time and money )to a gym and don't have home equipment. Looking at some of the reviews online it looks as though many of the exercises require equipment?

Activity levels
I've just read the hard gainer post which is really helpful but has left me wondering if I should change my recorded activity level? I've always been slim (and this is now compounded by chronic illness )My father was too so I've often thought there might be a genetic element. I recorded myself as being lightly active…

Weight loss due to chronic illness -tips appreciated
I suffer from ulcerative colitis (similar to crohn's disease)I've always been slim but gained weight after my diagnosis 15 years ago because the medications (steroids )increased my appetite. Now I've been put on different medication which is working but having to come off steroids. I now have very poor appetite and have…
