Burning calories with weights on HRM
Quick question, I just went to the gym with my new heart rate monitor, and after jogging for 35 min on the treadmill (burning 308 calories) I decided to leave my HRM on while I did a few weights. When I was done, I'd burn 418 calories in total. Should I still count these or should I only record my cardio ?

A big THANK YOU!
Honestly I didn't know where to put this but at least here it'll be seen. A big THANK YOU goes out to all past, present and possibly future MFPers for contributing to the food database. I hadn't really thoughts about it but one of the best things about MFP is the huuugee food database that includes millions of items,…

How would you rate these in difficulty?
So I'm curious. There is this huge selection of work out DVDs, but some of them definitely push you harder than others. So how would you place the following DVDs from hard to beginner? P90x, Power 90, Slim in 6, 30 Day Shred, Brazillian Butt lift, Turbofire, Insanity, Ripped in 30. And if you have any that you've also…

Calculating without HRM walking
So I have an app on my phone that tracks distance and average mph and even calories, but I don't have a HRM. I can't afford one (I'm broke) and the people with the money tell me to just check me heartbeat during an exercise ("Who needs a HRM?"). So I went on a spirit walk tonight for about 40 minutes (5 min shorter than…

Will increasing my exercise a LOT help
So it's been a month of MFP and I've lost a whole lot of nothing. 2.5 pounds. I did take pictures half way through and it seemed like I lose a bit and I measured but pictures now it looks like I didn't do anything. Even though I've been doing poorly lately, going over the 1200, I still had a deficit of at least 500 and I'm…

Good old inches vs pounds question
So I've been thinking. I know that inches speak far louder than the scale, and I know people can lose almost no weight but lose many inches. So instead of creating an overly large deficit of 750-1000 calories a day to lose 1.5lbs-2lbs a week, is it possible to only deficit 500 calories a day, thus losing a pound a week,…

Do you keep long hair as you lose weight?
So I have pretty long, really thick curly hair. It's a bit wavy since it's so long. If you have long hair, do you think long hair makes you look bigger? Would you cut it off? Or do you want to keep it when you get closer to your goal weight? Do you think short hair compliments the thinner look? I've kind of gotten tired of…

Can't decide what's making me sick.
I only started trying hard at losing weight at the end of July, but ever since then my throat's been sore and my voice will sometimes give out. I had a sunburn as I started, and I did get fever and a stuffy nose form that but most of my symptoms have gone away. But my throat got a bit worse and it's always really bad after…

What changes your TDEE?
I can't tell if the amount you work out every week will determine if you sedentary, lightly active, moderately active, etc... or if it's just everything excluding exercise, how it fluctuates. Considering how I don't have a job, and it's summer, I sit around my house and the exercise I get is from making my meals and doing…

Need food ideas to eat more calories!
Now I live in a household where my mom makes the dinner and buys the food. And I'm the only one eating healthy now (I could almost cry at the two pepsis, jumbo bag of skittles, suckers, and junk food my older brother now eats. And he's an athlete.) I'm also quite picky (I don't like the texture or taste of fish. I love…

Not really a NSV but a victory nonetheless.
This isn't really about my weight loss, but my mom told me today (she is obese and has been since I was born. She has a pretty bad hip and has tried Weight Watchers and other similar programs) that my new way of eating has affected her own eating and she's putting in some effort too. I tried pushing the topic and asked if…

I think I finally understand MFP. Do I?
I've been going with a BMR, TDEE scientific thing and didn't really understand how MFP works, telling people to eat under their BMR. Well I think I fully understand now and wanted to double check with you all. When you sign up MFP calculates your BMR and TDEE and depending on if you select wanting to lose 1 pound a week or…

Which BMR do I look at?
I was just trying out http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/bmr/ and got confused. I know my body fat % (39% sadly) and on there it tells me without body fat % my bmr is 1610 (Okay I knew this) But then with the Katch-McArdle formula using my %, my bmr is 1391. (Edit: the fit2radio site says my body fat% is 24%-27% but in my…

Is it impossible to lose 2lb/week like this?(TDEE&BMR)
Okay I think I get the premises of how I should eat between my BMR and TDEE to lose weight. My BMR is about 1600 and my TDEE is 2210. So does this mean that the max I can lose is 1.2lbs a week? (2210-1600= 610x7=4270/3500=1.22) When i exercise I don't burn a lot, maybe 200-300, and I know already that I eat those back. So…

A great video on the chemistry of weight loss
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jiB7FI5LP8&feature=relmfu I'm currently in Biology and we've been doing the digestion of carbs, lipids and proteins. So this is review for me but he adds some new things that make so much sense to me. It's also very helpful information when deciding what to do with your diet.

Has anyone tried heat training?
I tried looking this up, but you know how some people like to run in the heat, or pile on a whole lot of clothes when they exercise? I did hear that it helps lose weight, because it's making you sweat a lot more and heightens your heart rate. i know you have to drink a looooot of water though, and take in the salt you're…

10 pounds down and gaping at these pictures!
These are my first pictures up here. When i joined MFP I wasn't entirely committed, but ever since I got braces at the start of November I've been watching what I eat and working out before school with my friend. The first few pounds I brushed off as a scale fluke and water weight."So what, weight fluctuates. I won't…

Not sure I belong, but hi!
So hi, my name is Stephanie and I'm hoping to lose 60 lbs :) I don't think I'm allowed here, seems there's an age limit. But since when has there been an age limit to changing your life? I never have enough motivation for losing weight, and I think starting something here will be good for me. I've also started a blog. I'm…
