Need food ideas to eat more calories!

Now I live in a household where my mom makes the dinner and buys the food. And I'm the only one eating healthy now (I could almost cry at the two pepsis, jumbo bag of skittles, suckers, and junk food my older brother now eats. And he's an athlete.) I'm also quite picky (I don't like the texture or taste of fish. I love steamed broccoli but not raw broccoli, cauliflower, carrots.) And if I want to try new veggies or fruits, and I don't like it, it gets thrown out.
But then even worse is that I need to eat around 1700-1800 calories a day and I'm getting no where near. My mom will stop me and say 'You just had that whole salad!' But the salad I had was only 200 calories. I can't have 200 calorie meals. More like 400-600 depending on the meal. And snacks. So are there any high calorie foods that aren't processed junk foods that would be good for me to add into my diet? I know nuts are filling so I do eat almonds for my snacks. the only thing I can really think of are bars, or protein shakes. I know smoothies are a really good way to get it a lot of calories just still get many health benefits from the fruits (and veggies if I put any in there).
I do have a small stomach it seems, so even downing my whey protein after my workout fills me up momentarily! >< I'm worried because I'm having to lessen my exercise because I can't eat back the calories. I don't want to step on the scale and see a smaller number but have to be lean mass burned.

    Shameful self bump :<
  • What if you add shredded cheese to your salads along with almonds or pecans? That should boost up the calories and you aren't adding processed foods.
  • First of all, don't force yourself to eat if you're full. Regardless of what others say, you DO NOT have to eat back your exercise calories as long as you are netting above 1200 you should be fine. It may even speed up your weight loss progress if you eat less some days. You won't lose muscle mass as long as you eat around 1-2g Protein per pound of your body weight.

As far as calorie dense foods go, you are right on target with the nuts. Peanut butter and almond butter is a good solution. Maybe try a nut butter with an apple for a snack? 70% dark chocolate is also very healthy and a delicious way to boost your calories.

Thanks for the reassurance! I'm just so paranoid now that if I net below my BMR, my body is going to want to eat my muscle and I won't lose body fat as much. I do get a fair bit of protein in, between the meat and whey and greek yogurt.

Maybe I'll incorporate more whole grain toast with peanut butter, since there's a fair amount of calories in the bread and peanut butter isn't as bad for you as I thought.
Still working on liking dark chocolate. I hate bitter stuff. Coffee included
