1300 calories???
I see my GF and her projected calories for the day and it boggles my mind. How does someone limit their calorie intake to 1300 calories a day? That pretty much means you HAVE to exercise for a decent amount of time every day. And then you still can barely eat. Let alone if you want to go out for a few drinks? Am I missing…

MRPs for breakfast
I know in an ideal world we're all eating a healthy, filling, natural breakfast every morning. So let's assume that is not possible all the time, and that the goal is weight loss. Does anyone have feedback on the various MRPs that are available? And is there a better site than DPS Nutrition? I was thinking about trying the…

Regaining motivation
Looking for a perspective that will kickstart me. I started in Feb last year at 276 (whoa!). I'm 5'11. I basically have a 30 year track record of not being able to stick to stuff like getting into shape.. so the fact I'm still sort of at it after almost a year is a surprise. I started working out, eating *better*, counting…

Portion control and dealing with hunger
So.. I think my biggest road block is my hatred of all things fruit and veggie. I work on it, but it's awful. I'm trying to control my portion sizes but I notice that it pretty much means I'm hungry a good part of the day. Not starving.. but I notice it. It is the worst at night after dinner. What do you guys do to deal…

Lifting routine ok?
I hate lifting weights, but I recent was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis, which means my basketball days are over for a while. So I started lifting. Here is the routine I am doing: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/beginner_weight_training.htm Did I mention I hate lifting? For those of you who know, how is this lifting…

weight lifting and days off?
I have come to the realization that I may need to skip my cardio (basketball)-only routine and start lifting. I've been stuck for weeks at 255 and am getting pretty frustrated. My question is: If I lift weights 2 or 3 times a week (M,W,F or maybe M,W)... on my off days is it alright to keep playing basketball? Or is that…

Losing weight without losing muscle
I have a question that many before me have probably asked, but I took a quick look and didn't see a good topic on it so I thought it would be cool to pose it again. I am currently doing a LOT of cardio (6 days a week) and I am definitely losing weight.. which is what I want since I started at 276 (I'm 5'10) and now I'm at…

Hungry during a workout
I have two questions: 1) How long does it take for your body to switch from using carbs as energy to using fat stores as energy? I've heard this switchover is when you get your "second wind". 1A) Bonus question: If you stop working out for a half hour and start back up again... does it try to burn carbs again? 2) I have…

Two steps forward, three back, etc...
In my first month of trying to get in better shape I did pretty well. I went to the gym just about every day and worked hard. I monitored my calories and kept it in check. I ended up losing about 11.5 pounds over that first month. I was pretty excited. Then came a long weekend away with my GF for her birthday. I allowed…

Backsliding....
No.. not some cool new exercise. I'm talking about where you're on a roll.. and you feel like "one night won't kill me" or one weekend trip and you'll hit the gym hard on Monday.. but when something else comes up and maybe you miss a day.. or you got a little over your calories a day here or there... and then you realize…

Supreme Protein bars
Does anyone know if the Supreme Protein bars (particularly Caramel Nut Chocolate) are halfway decent for you? I like to use them as one of my snacks. It seems like they are high in saturated fat, but hopefully otherwise pretty good. http://www.supremeprotein.com/products.html

Basketball: What do you pick?
I tend to play basketball for a lot of my cardio. I don't really have a good idea of what a good, pickup, full court, 5-on-5 game amounts to in terms of calories. I try to enter it as "Basketball, game" since I run pretty hard.. but I was curious if anyone else ran into this question and how you went with it.

How many calories are you getting?
I ask because I realize that, even though I'm trying to eat more sensible, I find it hard (ok, impossible) to have a deficit without some exercise every day. What are you guys eating for calories each day? At what meals? I'm a 5'11", 270lb dude.. so I assume I'm supposed to eat more than most of the people on here.. but…

Straight calorie deficit - Is that all?
Let's start with a couple of points to avoid them in your replies: 1) I know eating "clean" leads to other benefits besides weight loss (feeling good, etc) 2) I understand about a balanced diet and that it is obviously better I am trying to lose weight and I'm mainly focusing on my calories. I am recording what I eat, and…
