What has worked best for you?
I thought this would be a good topic. Since we are all reasonably mature individuals here, (no snarky comments), it would be nice to hear everyone's approach to weight loss. At this point in our lives, we know fad diets don't work. We are all different in some ways with different abilities, different lifestyles. How are…

What motivates you to stay on track?
I was discussing this with some Mfp ers. Upon reflection, for me, the three biggest are - my almost 90 year old mom in a scooter. If I make it to 90, I want to be on my own two feet. Dementia runs rampant in my family, my dad, his sisters/brothers, my sister (only (66) all down that road. I have read massive amounts on the…

Hardest obstacle
We have talked about a lot of stuff here, but haven't seen this. What is the biggest obstacle for you? Exercise, certain foods, time, lack of motivation, medical issues? Mine was the ease at which I made excuses why I couldn't do this. The list is endless. That, and I am a bit of a sugar freak. What is your bailiwick?

The dreaded plateau
I guess, we all have had them. We are watching what we eat, working out and - nothing. What did you try to get over them? Were you successful? Or maybe you never had one. What do you think?

What is the hardest thing about maintenance for you?
For me, having gained and lost many times, it is the mental game. I can lose weight, I would just never keep it off. I finally learned there is no going back to "normal". This is my normal. Exercise is a requirement, not an option, so find something you like. I can't eat massive amounts of crap and not gain weight. I eat…

Low calorie diets
First let me say, I am not a proponent of very low calorie diets. It is a recipe for disaster, not only for your health but eventual failure and re-gain. However, the "numbers" aren't as straight forward as many on the forums proclaim. Older and especially smaller women have a much smaller margin for error. At 63, my BMR…

Just checking- what are your triggers?
Wanted to see if we could start our own discussions w/o Theresa. Otherwise, the other threads will get really long. I love all food, but my biggest downfall is sugar. Been know to eat an entire box of chocolate.

This will probably start a firestorm.
I don't often post and then only about weight loss issues. Recent comments, by people in the media that women working (and making more than their spouse) is the cause of the disintegration of marriage and family in America, just pissed me off. In the 70's, I burned my bra and protested for women's rights. Now I wonder why…

5k for an old lady
I don't normally post stuff, but today I had a lovely NSV. Two years ago, I couldn't walk half a mile w/o wanting to call the paramedics. Today I ran (6mph) a 5k in less than 31 minutes. Certainly not world class, but my personal best, and not bad for a 60 year old, lifelong couch potato. To all of you, don't wait as long…

OMG I'm smaller!
It was a little cool this morning, so I pulled out some jeans I bought 6 months ago when I had reached my goal. They were too BIG! For the first time in my life, I was smaller six months after I stopped "dieting", not bigger. This is a lifesyle change my friends, and you can do it. Good luck to you.

sort of a nsv
I have always lost weight when I really tried, but never kept it off. Therefore like many of you, I have a closet full of different sizes. My son gave me some jeans to patch and I didn't feel like going to the fabric store. So, I cut up all my "fat jeans" for scraps. This weight loss is permanent, no turning back now.…

NSV - 11 min. mile
Ok, it isn't world class speed, unless they give me a 7 min head start, I won't win the olympics. However, considering I will be 60 in less than 2mo. I am excited. A year ago, I couldn't walk a half mile w/o calling the paramedics. And I did a 5k in 36 min, my best time ever. YAY!. If I can do it, so can you. Good luck to…

Am I the only fat *kitten* in the world?
I read comment after comment about how people can't eat all their calories or exercise calories. I eat all mine and want more. It takes restraint to stay in check. I know exercise makes you healthier, but I exercise so I can eat more. Eating too much is how I got fat. Other than people with medical problems/injury, for…

Panties falling down, nsv
Ok, on the treadmill yesterday, I tried a little jogging (I am almost 60). Anyway my panties started falling down. Today I went to Victoria's Secret and bought new bra and some panties that fit. Before this, I didn't fit into anything at this store, I got mediums. Yay for me. Good luck to you all in your journey, all I can…

Is my HRM broken?
Just for the fun of it, I kept my Polar F4 on for 24 hrs.(It is new from Christmas). It says I burned over 3300 calories???? I move a little on my job, but not much and the only exercise I did was 40min on the elliptical. I am 5'6" 145lb. no huge muscles(LOL). What gives? Any ideas?
