Defining fasting day
I'm on my second week of 5:2 and it occurred to me I would really prefer to have my fasting day last from 6pm to 6pm, or something like that. Does anyone do that?

Not ready for my HM in less than a week...
My training has fallen apart in the last 3 weeks for various reasons (mostly life), and I am wondering if I should switch from running a HM race on Saturday to a 10K. In my training I have gotten in 1 13 miles run an 4-5 11+ mile runs. In August, I ran 129 miles, but in September I have only run 39 miles so far!! I ran 8.3…

Negative Split Calculator
I posted this once before a while back, but just came across it again, and it is so useful: http://www.ridersite.org/SBTraining/PaceCal.php Makes it easier to plan pacing. Last HM I ran with a pacer, and then sped up after 9 miles or so. Next one doesn't have pacers, so I am really trying to plan. There is nothing better…

Right Glute Pain
Yes, I have a pain in my butt! Started after my tempo run last Wednesday, and has not completely gone away. Today on my 7.6 mile run it was radiating down into my hamstring. Pain is deep in the glute - about at the sit bone. Anyone with experience with this? Also, wondering if I should do my planned speed workout tomorrow…

5 mile race one week before half marathon
My training plan calls for 12-14 miles with the last 2-4 at goal HM pace the Saturday a week before my half, but I don't think I want to run that far, and I will probably have at least 3 12-14 mile runs in by that time. Any reason a 5 mile race would hurt me? If I am feeling beat up by then, I can not go for a PR in the 5…

Miles on Running Shoes
How many miles do you generally get out of your running shoes? I have some Saucony Kinvara 3s that have 439 miles on them and my Saucony Virrata's have about 244. The Virrata's look more worn out than the Kinvara's. No problems with either yet - just my plantar fasciitis, which I had well before I got either of these…

Awesome Negative Split Calculator
Found this: https://www.ridersite.org/SBTraining/PaceCal.php Great for calculating race paces when you want to run the first half slower than the second half. Now if I could just figure out what a reasonable goal time is for my half!

Advice for my 2nd Half this weekend
A couple things - I never drink on training runs (up to 14 miles) - I probably shouldn't drink during the race, right? I don't want to do anything to give myself side stitches or anything and am thinking water sloshing around could cause that. I guess if my mouth is super dry I can rinse it out. My first half last fall, I…

Running Maintenance Plan
Trying to come up with a training plan for after my HM in April. I will get in a couple more 13+ mile long runs before then, but afterwards I want to cut back to 8-10 mile long runs, with an occasional 13-15 mile run - maybe once a month. A shorter weekend run (5-6 miles) also every 4-6 weeks. Is that reasonable? I usually…

MFP Christmas Crawl Race
One of my pals is setting up a virtual race on Dec 15th You choose your distance: 5K, 10K, 10 miles, or HM and log it in the group. Some of us were having problems finding the races we wanted for December. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/9203-mfp-christmas-crawl-race

Cadence!
Just switched to the iSmoothRun app and it measures cadence, among other things, and found that my cadence is only 76. Would like to get it up to 90 or so. In my research, a faster cadence translates to more efficient running, fewer injuries, etc. I thought my stride length was fairly short, but I guess to achieve this, I…

Thinking about adding a half on the 8th..
I don't feel the need to taper, since I don't get any soreness or anything from my long slow runs, so I am planning on running 13 miles on Saturday, which would be a week before the race. I will plan on running a little shorter on my Tuesday and Thursday runs - maybe 3 miles each instead of 5 miles. This would be my first…

Predicting Half Marathon Time
Running my first half on September 29th. According the mcmillianrunning.com, since I have run a 5 mile race in 48 minutes (flat course, though), I should be able to do the half in 2:14. Initially I was shooting for under 2:30, but I just ran 12 miles today in 2:14. That was at an easy training pace. At no point was I…

Finally - an Awesome 10 mile run!
I had posted last week about some bad 10 milers. Thanks to all who replied. Turns out it was mostly lack of sleep. The cool temps helped a lot too this morning. I did 10.15 miles in 1:54 - 11:18 per mile. The last couple miles were a little painful, but that is to be expected! I am sure I will be able to do my half in…

2 Bad Long Runs in a Row!
I averaged around 11:18 per mile for my longer runs (8.5 and 9.5 miles), and then then last two have been bad - 12:18 and 13 (both 10 miles runs). Also my during the week runs are averaging around 5.5 MPH instead of around 6 MPH for the last week or so. Trying to figure out why I am going downhill!! This last week I have…

Declining performance running
(I already posted this is the Long Distance Runners group) I averaged around 11:18 per mile for my longer runs (8.5 and 9.5 miles), and then then last two have been bad - 12:18 and 13 (both 10 miles runs). Also my during the week runs are averaging around 5.5 MPH instead of around 6 MPH for the last week or so. Trying to…

Inner side arch pain?
During my 9.5 mile run on Saturday, my right arch started hurting. Didn't slow me down, but it was annoying. It kept hurting the rest of the day, and is still hurting now. It's fine when I get up in the morning, but starts to hurt as I am on it. The pain actually seems to be centered on the side of the foot. I had my most…

NSV - Ran 10 miles today!
Ok, I did run 9.5 miles last weekend, and that was a great run. Today's run ended up being 1 min/mile slower. Felt crappy, got side stitches, had to walk some of it, etc. Got to bed after 1 am last night, but still got up at 5:30 and ran (so I'm sure lack of sleep had alot to do with my poor performance). But, I did it. 7…

My first Half will be on Sept 29th
I started running using C25k in Dec/Jan, and really got the running bug! Yesterday, I turned 42 and decided to run my longest run so far - it was 8.5 miles - took me 1:36. I was actually pretty happy with my pace. My previous longest run was 7 miles at a 12 min pace, and this one was a 11:30 pace. I was so inspired that I…

Kettlebell Bruising
If I am developing bruises on each forearm from kettlebell cleans, does that mean I am doing them wrong? They really don't hit my arms hard, and I do bruise easily, but it looks kinda ugly and is a little sore. I didn't have this problem with 15 lbs, but I am since I started using a 25 lb kettlebell. Think I should get…

Wahoo Blue HR
I just got this. Work great with Runkeeper, but not with JogLog, but I can switch. I can't get it to work on Wahoo Fitness, though! Anyone know of a good app for just tracking average heart rate during a circuit workout that works with the Wahoo Blue HR?

Something funny happened while running today...
I was running past a field with cows in it. They were right up at the wire fence, and they started running along with me - about 6 of them or so!! They only stopped because they got to the corner of the fence. Made me a little nervous, because the only thing separating them from me was one wire!!! I was laughing though at…

Week 8
Just did Week 8 day one - got in 2.55 miles in the 28 minutes of running. Felt pretty good. I won't be up to 3.1 miles next week, but I'll be alot closer than I ever thought I could be when I started!!! Anyone else on week 8 right now?

5 Mile Trail Run Prep
I just ran my second 5K race today - 30:56 - PR for me - yay! I have a 5 mile trail run coming up mid May, and was thinking maybe I should try to do a little trail running before then. My routine right now is to run 3 times a week on the road - 3-4 miles during the week, and then longer on Saturdays -all somewhat hilly…

Advice for days leading up to 5K..
I am running my first 5K on Saturday. I ran 5K today, and am trying to decide whether to do a longer run on Wed/Thurs (like 5 miles) or keep it shorter. Last week I ran 3 times - 3.25 miles, 4 miles, and 5 miles (each one was my longest distance ever- until the next run, that is!) Today I was hoping for a PB, but I tried a…

Silly NSV
One of my goals for the last couple years has been to go down my son's slide - it has a weight limit of 150. I was outside playing with him today, jumping on the trampoline, etc, and I realized "I can go down the slide!!" - I'm 143! Yes, it was fun! I went down twice. ;)
