  • I already decided to make it a normal day - I end up eating only 500 cal for much longer than 24 hours. Like today was the day after my fasting day and I didn’t end up eating until 2 pm. I’m rarely hungry in the morning anyway. I’m on my second week, and I like this. Only logging twice a week is a bonus!
  • Calorie counting is the only thing that worked for me. Lost around 50 pounds several years ago. Back now, because I let a little weight creep back on. To answer your macro question, I find that I naturally end up around 20% protein, 40% fat, and 40% carbs. I like my fats! Works well for me, but it is just what I naturally…
  • the increased protein is due to the yogurt being more concentrated - draining out some of the whey accomplishes that. I usually make my own yogurt, strain it, and then I can also use the whey in other recipes. Even cheaper.
  • Thanks, everyone - I am going to go ahead and run the half. Just going to enjoy it!
  • This site will tell you all you need to know: http://www.goodformrunning.com/
  • Hal Higdon has a winter training plan than you could follow, or modify a little to suit your needs. http://www.halhigdon.com/training/51239/Winter-Running-Training-Program Last Winter I am pretty sure I was running 4 days a week at that point, 3 - 6 miles during the week, with some 10 mile runs on the weekends (not every…
  • I do this before races (one or two) and even on long run days sometimes. Never had it cause constipation.
  • Huge accomplishment - congrats!
  • If the area you run in is objectively safe, then I agree that you just need to keep doing it and try to relax. I have a small can of pepper spray that I have clipped to my spibelt, and while I think it is most likely I would have to use it on a dog rather than a person, it does at least give me one weapon to use. I live in…
  • I pretty much never carry water, but when I do, I just carry a small handheld 10oz bottle. I freeze it mostly full, then top it off with water before I leave. My runs don't go longer than about 13 miles though, and if I ever train for a marathon, I might have to rethink that, but generally find that as long as I stay well…
  • Took a day off, and did some stretching exercises, and no pain today on my run - just slight tightness. Woohoo. Still looking for a tennis ball..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFtUgS69rPk
  • Definitely do it. Your family will be there - you can hang out with them before the race and then they will be there the cheer you on at the end. You will have no problem running the distance - just slow down on your longer runs. I know you are pretty fast, and you have to be willing to slow it down a little to work on…
  • Thanks everyone - I will research piriformis. I foam rolled last night, but it still hurts today, and my hamstring is very tight. Skipping the speed workout and any running altogether today. Really don't want to derail my training! Maybe if I take the next 3 days off I can still do my long run on Saturday.
  • I have been maintaining since May 2012. I hit my goal (135), went into maintenance, continued to lose until I stabilized around 130. I kept counting calories until this summer, when I tried not logging, and started to gain a little. I got back around 135 again, and started logging again. Now I am around 133 avg.…
  • I'm going to break out the foam roller tonight and see how it feels tomorrow. If it is hurting, I can just switch to an easy run.
  • Try the Runner's World Smart Coach - you can customize it to your current mileage and paces. Used it for my 2nd half and really liked it.
  • Sept 29th - Hands On House Half Marathon (Lancaster, PA) Nov 3rd - Amish Country Half Marathon (Paradise, PA) Maybe a 5 mile race on Sept 22nd, and a 12K on Oct 26th. Trying to decide if they will hurt my half perfomances!
  • Thanks everyone, you've given me something to think about. I haven't decided yet. My next half after the one in September is in November, and wouldn't you know it, there is a very hilly 12K I would like to do the week before (I did it last year, and know I can do it a lot faster). Ugh.
  • Feel free to add me. I've been maintaining for over a year, and am a runner - training for my third HM right now. Lost 35 pounds on MFP, 50 total.
  • I don't snack much - only on long run days when I HAVE to. Generally, though, if I have a "treat" I like to sit down and enjoy it. It is so easy consume so many useless calories by mindlessly snacking on stuff, so if I do snack, it is because I am truly hungry and it is usually going to be something tasty but healthier.…
  • I've been maintaining for over a year now, and I use the "happy window" as well. I did finally exceed my happy window recently - when I stopped logging for awhile, so I started logging again and am back in that window again. I do weigh myself most days, but I EXPECT to be anywhere from 128 - 134 or so. If I start…
  • Definitely. I used to do this before I gained weight too - if I knew I was going out to eat, I would eat a lot lighter for breakfast and lunch and skip any snacks.
  • Great job!! Anytime you run farther than you ever have before it is an awesome accomplishment - no matter how far it is.
  • You don't weigh much, and you are eating back all your exercise calories, so I wouldn't worry much. The problem is when MFP puts everyone on 1200 - it put me on 1200 when I weighed 165 (5'6") - I upped it to 1400 plus and still lost just as fast or faster.
  • Ooh, this would be a good way to use up left over seasoned taco meat too.... Nice to have quick things like this in the freezer that are actually homemade.
  • You don't actually taste it. I've done it on long run days, and I do think it helps.
  • Kinvara's don't seem narrow to me, but might be different in women's sizes - I wear my normal athletic shoe size in them (1/2 size up from my normal shoe size). I love mine - have 460 miles on them now and they still seem fine to me.
  • My very first 5K, I think I started towards the front. Started out really fast, then slowed down. Figured it out after that!
  • It kind of depends if he is bringing it up a lot, or if he is being honest with you when you ask him about your weight. If he is making a big deal about it, that is a problem. My husband thinks I'm sexy at whatever weight (up to a point, I'm sure), but I know he likes me a lot better at my current weight, and he would be…
  • I started maintenance (1620 plus eating back all my exercise cals) when I hit 135 (I am 5' 5.5"), and slowly lost about another 5 pounds over the next few months, and then stabilized around 130. I kept logging for almost a year, then stopped and I am back up to around 135 now. I feel pretty good at this weight, but…
