Men's or women's barbell?
I'm looking to purchase a barbell that my husband and I can both use at home. Is it better to buy a women's bar to fit my grip or a men's bar to fit his? I have used a men's bar and don't really feel like it's a huge deal, but I do have small hands, (I'm 5ft tall) and wonder over time if it's better to have a smaller one…

Lovesong
For me this song is about running. What is it about for you? Lovesong Whenever I'm alone with you, You make me feel like I am home again. Whenever I'm alone with you, You make me feel like I am whole again. Whenever I'm alone with you, You make me feel like I am young again. Whenever I'm alone with you, You make me feel…

attendance down or up?
So I just got back from my 6:15 am class. I would say about half of the people showed up. I was pretty shocked. I thought everyone would be there. There did seem to be an extra class, but in our class and the other class that is scheduled, not everyone was there. Just wondering, was everyone's like this today? Was it…

First time at Crossfit
So, I went for my first cross fit session yesterday! It was really fun! The one thing that really struck me was how NICE everyone was. Not at all like any "gym" atmosphere I have been in, which is why I swore of traditional gyms years ago. I am sore today, (yay!) and I cannot wait for tomorrow!

basic granola bar formula
I found this blog last night www.browneyedbaker.com while looking for granola bar recipes. She has a basic formula so YOU can decide what to put in. So many possibilities! Plus, if you have allergies or don't like this or that it makes it so easy to sub stuff in or out. It also makes it so easy to figure out calorie counts…

Primal Almond Cinnamon crackers
Adapted from the Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson. His recipe called for walnuts, I used almonds instead. His recipe also calls for only 1 Tablespoon of water, but mine was really dry so I ended up adding about 3-4 Tablespoons so I could spread the batter. Otherwise it was dry and crumbly. Preheat oven to 375 2 cups raw…

Hey Runners....
When it's hot outside and you're running in your neighborhood, (or any neighborhood, I guess) do you run through other peoples sprinklers? If they are running close to the sidewalk, I totally do it.

Kids Triathlon
My friend just posted on FB that her son, (age 7) wanted to start training for a kids triathlon happening in the middle of August. For his age group (7-8 year olds) it would be 100m swim/5k bike/1k run. Then a few minutes later she posted that she thought that 5k bike is an insane distance for a 7 year old. I don't have a…

First 10K advice
I'm about to register for my first 10k. On the registration form it asks what my expected finish time is. I don't know what to put. I'm not finished with my training yet, but right now I'm averaging about 9 minutes a mile sometimes more. Should I over-estimate? 60 minutes? Does it matter? There is a, "Don't know" option,…

Ode To Spinning
This was written by my very good friend and posted to Facebook yesterday. She gave me permission to share it with all of you. "You can ride a bike," said my friend, "its fun, even if you're a klutz." As I sat on the bike in question, I thought my friend was a little nuts. I'd rather be eating brunch, drinking mimosas in a…

When you see friends under eating...
What should you do when you see MFPeeps under eating, coming in under 1200 by, say, more than 150- 200 calories all the time? By all the time I mean, almost every day. On top of that adding serious calorie burning exercise,(at LEAST 500 cals)? Do we wait until they complain about not losing weight, or bring it up before…

Atlantic Cod w/caramelized onions & peaches
A friend asked for this recipe so I thought I'd post it here. It's very easy. I didn't use a recipe myself, just sort of made it up as I went but there isn't really any added fat so it wasn't to hard to approximate. I made it for 2 people but you could multiply it out easily. 2 pieces Atlantic Cod, (I used Costco frozen…

body frame calculator
I've been seeing a lot of topics about ideal weights and frame sizes on the boards the last couple of days.
