Latest book "Food: What the Heck Should I Eat" by Mark Hyman, MD
If you've been here a while you know that I read nutrition books as a hobby. I'm now most of the way through Food: What the Heck Should I Eat. I'm enjoying it. He's a lower carb advocate, but more specifically, he advocates eating whole foods, lots of plants, grass fed beef, wild caught, sustainable seafood. He spends a…

cauliflower rice/riced cauliflower
I had an aha (duh?) moment yesterday and decided to wok fry my cauliflower rice before serving it as the base for mapo tofu. (spicy chinese tofu). OMG cooking the rice made it so much better! I've cooked it when stir frying it before and of course when using it for pizza crust. But not for just serving. YUM.

Dr. David Ludwig's "Always Hungry"
If you know me, you know I'm a low glycemic load NERD. Most recently, I've been reading "Always Hungry" by Dr. David Ludwig (M.D., Ph.D.). It's more of a holistic approach than a "diet" per se, but it's definitely low glycemic load. If the science behind low glycemic load eating (AKA "slow carb") intrigues you, give it a…

"Always Hungry" by Dr. David Ludwig
If you know me, you know I'm a low glycemic NERD. Most recently, I've been reading "Always Hungry" by Dr. David Ludwig. It's more of a holistic approach than a "diet" per se, but it's definitely low glycemic load. If the science behind the original SB diet intrigues you, give it a read. Original SB diet and the DASH Diet Weight Loss Solution
I've said it before, they are basically the same approach. Both are low glycemic approaches, that focus on healthy carbs and healthy fats. To that end, I've added the DASH Diet Weight Loss Solution to our title. Hope no one minds. (Note: The DASH Diet Weight Loss Solution isn't quite the same as the original DASH diet. The…

2017 on the beach!
I wanted to start a fresh thread. I figure each of us is going to renew, reboot, recommit, or refresh for the new year. Myself included. As with earlier, my food goals will correspond with fitness/health goals. I plan to start anew with a reboot on Jan 1, after holiday travels with hubs. I'm sticking to my low glycemic…

Starting a two day "fast" before my colonoscopy
Yes, it's not technically a fast, I can have jello and gatorade and other sugary stuff (not gonna happen), and broth etc. I'll be having broth... and Fresca. (yes, I'm "slow" thus the reason it's two days rather than one) Lucky me!

Body weight X 10 as a minimum
I felt bad hijacking the nice lady's thread, so I'll start my own. It keeps being said on here that you should eat a MINIMUM of your body weight times 10 to lose weight. Do you believe this old adage applies to everyone? Is it a better method of dieting than using BMR or other formulas, or better than elimination diets…

One year, today
Today is my one-year-aversary. It's been one year since my last period, and what a doosy that last one was! I clearly remember thinking: whoa, if this isn't "it", if it gets worse, I feel less "well" than this, I might need to do something more dramatic (meds wise). Fortunately, that WAS it. I can honestly say I feel so…

microwave pork rinds??
Disclaimers: I'm not particularly low carb (PLC lol). I'm more plant based (MPBtN) than not. :D :D :D :D But I love chicharrones (pork rinds). It's a thing from childhood. Today I microwave chicharrones that *appeared******** to have no transfats. Has anyone tried them?…
