Bikram Yoga
For anyone that does Bikram Yoga and use's a HRM. Does it really burn as many calories as people claim and can it result in weight loss? I'm asking because most calorie counters and people claim that 90 mintues of Bikram can burn close to a thousand calories or more. I entered my statistics into some calorie counters and…

Breastfeeding and Weightloss
I'm starting a group weight loss competition in 2 weeks. If each person loses a certain percentage of weight in 3 months we each win $2,000. If one person in the group doesn't reach their individual percentage the entire group loses. I don't want to let the group down being the only girl and I've heard from some people…

Protein Meal ideas for Camping
I'm going on an overnight backpacking trip and I'm concerned with keeping my protein up. Does anyone have any ideas for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks that has a lot of protein, but doesn't need to be regrigerated? So far, I have baked beans, salmon packets, jerky, pb. Anything else that would be a good meal?

Whey Protein Hot Chocolate
So, my normal breakfast has been a cup of dry Cheerios or an egg white scramble. I just started Strenght training last week and have been trying to think of ways to get at least 30 grams of protein for breakfast, w/o having to eat eggs everyday. The thing is, I'm a very picky eater. I don't like yogurt, oatmeal or most…

Gaining Muscle w/o Gaining Fat
I'm hoping you guys can help me out. I want to work on building muscle and I plan on doing a P90x/Chalean Extreme hybrid starting April 2nd. I know that I need to eat over maintenance to gain muscle and I'm really afraid of this, because I don't want to gain fat. My question is how much more calories should I eat? Do I…

My question is how much more calories should I eat? Do I only eat a calorie surplus on my weight training days or do I eat a…

Plateau Help
Here's my scenario. I lost 19 pounds in about 2.5 months on MFP. I did it by lowering my calories at an average of 1000/day with one semi-free day of up to 2000 calories. At the end of the week, my average was around 1000-1200/day. I didn't do any type of exercise during that time. 5 weeks ago, I decided to add strength…

BodyBugg, BodyMedia vs HRM
I have a BodyMedia and a HRM. I wear the BodyMedia everyday all day and the HRM only during exercise. I've noticed that my HRM will tell me I burn a lot more calories during exercise than the BodyMedia. Today I did the P90x legs & back workout for 60 minutes and according to my HRM I burned 365 calories, but the BodyMedia…

Does heat effect calories burned?
The air conditioning is currently being repaired in my house and I live in very hot Arizona. I was working out yesterday on the treadmill and my heart rate got up to 95%. My heart was pounding and I had to slow down, but I burned more calories than I normally burn if I had a fan in the room or the air was on. This also…

8 Hours of Sleep?
How much sleep do you average each night? There's the 8 hour rule, but I just don't see how it's possible to get 8 hours of sleep. On the weekdays I usually get about 6.5-7 and on the weekends I get 7-8. I'm thinking about fitting some of my workouts in the morning, but I don't want to go to bed too much earlier than I…

Exercise Calories and Regular Activity
I keep reading on here how you should eat your exerise calories and how you shouldn't go under a net of 1200 calories and I'm just trying to make sense of this. So I did the math. Scenario 1 BMR 1,600 (sedetary lifestyle) Exercise 400 New BRM 2,000 Food (1,200) Net Calories 800 Scenario 2 BMR 2,000 (active lifestyle) No…

Calories Burned Walking on Treadmill...seems like a lot
I normally do the majority of my cardio on my ellipitcal and during an hour session on low-medium intensity and according to my HRM I burn about 390-440 calories. Now, I just got a treadmill last week for a little bit of change and during an hour on 10% incline @ 3mph I burn about 460 calories. I also move my arms back and…

Lowering High Blood Pressure
My husband saw his doctor today and was told that he has high blood pressure. She said that caffeine and his allergy medicine contributes to this and that he can stand to lose a few pounds. I started him an account on here a few weeks ago and we're working on his weight loss, he has about 40 pounds to lose. Besides cutting…

Diet Soda and Sweeteners - Effects
Another thread on this board about diet coke got me thinking about what's really wrong with diet drinks/sweeteners. Someone on another forum mentioned that diet soda causes obesity because you have more sugar cravings and take in more calories because of these cravings and to just drink a regular coke in moderation. I…

Making Fried Chicken
I'm making fried chicken drumsticks and strips today and trying to figure out the calories. I can calculate the nutrition of all the ingredients, except the oil. My question is, how much oil normally stays in the chicken when frying? I was thinking of just using KFC's nutrition. Would that be close enough?

Need Help Choosing Daily Net Calories
I keep reading thread after thread about how I need to eat all of my exercise calories, but doing the math, if I was to eat my exercise calories I would maintain or gain weight. Plus it seems like it defeats the purpose of working out to lose weight. My BMR is approx. 1300 and it takes 1600 to maintain my weight. I stagger…
