At what point (on average, I realize it may differ depending on the individual) do calories expended through exercise exceed calories eaten and the body says "You nitwit; I'll start sacrificing muscle tissue to keep you alive!" 300 calorie deficit? 1000? 1500?

Walking on Stairs on Rest Day
Is walking up and down (very casually, nowhere pushing yourself to the limits acceptable activity on a rest day? What do you do on your rest day?

Hunger
I try to eat a balance of fat, carbs and protein at every meal. What are suggestions of things to eat so to feel fuller so that I no longer feel hungry after meals (daily max is 1700 calories (without exercise) according to myfitnesspal. I drink water throughout the day, so I don't think it's thirst masquerading as hunger).

I started Stronglifts 5x5 a few weeks ago. Friday was Workout A day (squats, barbell row and bench press). My chest was milldly sore but on Saturday I felt like walking/jogging so ended up walking/jogging/running 4.1 mph for one hour. My best time. Now my chest is more sore today. I'm considering one of the following: the iPod shuffle, classic and nano, but not sure which one would be best to use when working out. Or do you have another recommendation?
