DOMS or More Serious Problem?

I started Stronglifts 5x5 a few weeks ago. Friday was Workout A day (squats, barbell row and bench press). My chest was milldly sore but on Saturday I felt like walking/jogging so ended up walking/jogging/running 4.1 mph for one hour. My best time.

Now my chest is more sore today. I'm thinking a bad case of DOMS, but don't want to rule out anything more serious.

I'm planning in taking today off from anything other than walking (maybe stretching?)

Should I be concerned or keep lightly training/stretching, get rest and drink fluids? Pain is maybe a 2 or 3 on a scale of 1-10.

DOMS = Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. Typically 1-3 days after strength training the pain gets a bit worse before it gets better. It's one of those fun surprises. The day after a good workout you think - hey, I'm feeling pretty good, must be getting stronger because I'm not as sore as I thought'd be be. Then the next day you can hardly move.

OP, it could be DOMS, especially given where you're ranking it on a scale fo 1-10. Definitely stretch, maybe even use the foam roller if you have access to one. Hopefully by tomorrow you'll feel better.

Sounds like DOMS to me. When I started SL5x5, I felt like I couldn't walk up stairs for 2 weeks. By the 4th week, the soreness is barely noticeable.

Thanks. I'm betting it's DOMS. I'll stretch and do a lighter workout today.

Assuming this is surficial pain and not something you're feeling deeper in your chest, then DOMS seems quite likely. Although we don't tend to think of running as working body parts like your chest, it's amazing how connected things are. (The day after one run, my abs were so sore it hurt to do anything. You'd have thought I'd done a high intensity abs class!) Take a day off, do some stretching, and ice it. Maybe also take a bath with epsom salts if you have some.
If you're feeling something deeper in your chest, I say see a doctor. You don't want to mess around with that stuff.

    It's superficial pain. Thanks. :)

For myself, DOMS always hits me the 2nd day after a workout. As an earlier poster said, it will hit you 1-3 days afterwards. Seeing as I lift every other day, that 3rd day after lifting is actually the next day after lifting so I wouldn't know which day to count it as.
