Do I really need to eat more to lose weight?
I seem to lose weight in "whooshes" usually, so I don't worry when I go a week or two with no loss, then lose a pound overnight. (I weigh daily first thing in the morning.) I have noticed that sometimes these "whooshes" happen after I have had a special occasion splurge and ate more than my allowed calories. For example,…

Should I start doing more free weight exercises?
I've been working out consistently with a trainer since last summer. We do a combination of machines, bodyweight, and free weight exercises. I'm curious to try doing some of the classic free weight exercises like squats and deadlifts with barbell. (Currently I do bodyweight squats and dumbbell deadlifts.) Is there a…

Plateau again? Discouraged and figuring out where to go from here.
Last summer, I weighed 153, my body fat % was 39%, and I didn't work out regularly. At the beginning of July, I got back to MFP, started working out (weights & cardio) regularly, and started making big improvements. By the end of September, my body fat was 27.5%, I had lost over 10 lbs., and I was getting stronger, leaner,…

Best shoes for various cardio, strength training, some running?
My workout shoes are looking sad, and don't have much "bounce" left. I've been looking for a new pair. Here's what I do: Strength training: dumbbells, machines, bodyweight exercises (lunges, squats, jump squats, burpees, etc.) Cardio: Zumba, kickboxing class, treadmill (incline), stairmaster I plan to complete C25K now…

My body fat percentage isn't dropping much
I'm happy with my weight loss so far (average about ¾ to 1 lb. per week), but my body fat percentage isn't dropping very much. It was 22.8 three months ago, and now it's 21.5 (according to my scale). In the same amount of time, I've lost 13 lbs. I do lift weights two to three times a week (I have a trainer that I work out…

Have you learned to love running?
I don't like running. At all. For cardio, I do zumba, hiking local mountains, or treadmill with incline. My husband likes running, and would love for us to do a 5K together someday. Is it possible to learn to enjoy it? Should I build up to it slowly, or just get on the treadmill tomorrow and put the speed up? One of the…

Is anyone else pre-ordering an Amiigo?
I really am looking forward to getting mine. I think it will be easy to use and motivating.

NSV: New bathing suit!
Last summer, I bought a bathing suit that I really liked. I just re-ordered it TWO SIZES SMALLER. It came today, fits perfectly, and looks great! I hope next summer to re-order in an even smaller size.

Strengthening upper body so I can do pushups?
Okay, my upper body (especially my chest/triceps) is not keeping up with my lower body in gaining strength. I can, on a good day, do a poorly executed pushup. I would like to improve this. Are there other exercises that are easier than a pushup that would help me get there? Or do I just keep trying to do pushups every day?…

What kind of weights do you use for 30 Day Shred?
Women, if you usually use 7.5 lb. dumbbells at the gym (don't laugh!), would you use those for 30DS? Or maybe go slightly lighter to be able to do more reps? (I'm assuming she has you do more than 3 sets of 12-15?) I got the DVD from the library to try, then noticed it said you need weights. I thought I'd try this on…

When you do 30 Day Shred, do you only do that?
I currently lift weights and do cardio three times a week, and usually extra cardio twice a week (Zumba, horseback riding, etc.). I am intrigued by the 30 Day Shred, and wondering if I do try it, would I alternate doing 30DS with going to the gym? Or skip the gym for the month and just do 30DS?

Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal
My breakfast experiment this morning! 1 packet plain instant oatmeal (I used Trader Joe's Complete) 2/3 c water Cook oatmeal and water in microwave for 1 1/2 minutes. In a glass or small bowl, stir together 1 scoop chocolate flavored whey protein (I used Trader Joe's), 1 tbsp PB2, and about 2 tbsp unsweetened almond milk…

Wow. I got my Fitbit Zip today!
I already love this thing! I wanted to motivate myself to be more active outside the gym. I work out regularly, but often when I'm not working out, I'm pretty lazy. (When we get a dog, which I hope will be soon, I'll have a new motivation to walk as well.) I didn't get it until this afternoon, so it doesn't know about my…

I've been losing extra slowly, then lost 2 lbs. this week!
Has anyone else had this happen? My weight loss the past five months has been excruciatingly slow (about five pounds in five months), even though I've been exercising more and my net calorie goal on MFP is only 1210. I am getting a little slimmer, though; I'm wearing smaller jeans, and my ribcage is definitely slimmer. But…

Question about syncing Fitbit with MFP
My niece has a Fitbit now, and loves it, and my sister-in-law is getting one soon. So, since I have been looking for something to track/motivate me, I'm considering it. But how does it sync with MFP? Not the technical aspect, but does it give you credit for all calories burned, and you don't enter your exercise separately?…

Delicious protein powder!
I just picked up some Trader Darwin's Chocolate Flavored Whey Protein Powder. I mixed into some unsweetened vanilla almond milk and it's delicious! No chalkiness, clumps or weird taste. Later I'm going to try it with hot coffee to see if I can make a mocha. If you have a Trader Joe's near you, try this stuff!

Thinking about raising my daily calorie limit
I've been doing this for about 5 months. I've lost 5 lbs. Now, I do look a little different; I have more of an hourglass again, and I bought a smaller pair of jeans. However, at this rate, losing the rest of my excess body fat will take forever! I am hoping for 1 lb. per week, not 1 lb. per month! I lift weights 3x a week,…

Do you ever stop being sore?
I've been working out consistently (weights 3 times a week) for 4 months or so. In the beginning, the muscle pain was severe. Now it's noticeable, but doesn't interfere with any activities. I figure it's good; it lets me know I did work the muscles! However, I'm wondering if I will ever stop having muscle soreness? Or,…

Leg pain when using elliptical?
Does anyone else experience leg pain on the elliptical? I've been using the treadmill (increasing the incline over time), but the training supervisor at the gym recommended I switch to the elliptical. Whenever I try it, my legs hurt so much I can only last five minutes. My quads hurt, and my lower legs too. I have very…

My first HRM watch
I wasn't sure if I would really wear a chest strap, but I wanted to be able to check my heart rate when lifting, hiking, and doing other activities besides the treadmill at the gym, so I started looking into other options. I thought a pedometer would be useful, and a good way to motivate myself to be more active outside…

Another non-scale victory today!
I've been frustrated that I've lost barely any weight, but I am thrilled that I am getting stronger as a result of working out. I started horseback lessons a few months ago, and at first, I had to stand on a chair to get on the horse; I couldn't pull myself up into the saddle. A month ago, I tried again, and found I could…

My husband is losing, but I'm not!
My husband and I are both using MFP. We both track our food and exercise consistently. He's losing weight consistently, 1-3 lbs. per week. I've lost about 2.5 lbs. in 6 weeks. Our exercise habits are different. He plays a lot of soccer - typically 2 hours one evening, and 1-2 hours one or two other evenings. He runs about…

What's the best way to cook chicken breast so I can reheat i
I want to start eating less processed foods, and more lean protein. I don't normally have time to cook from scratch at lunchtime, but I'd like to have chicken breasts precooked that I can reheat, or maybe leave cold and cut into chunks to add to a salad. What's the best method for cooking them, so they'll reheat well? I'm…
