Leg pain when using elliptical?

Does anyone else experience leg pain on the elliptical? I've been using the treadmill (increasing the incline over time), but the training supervisor at the gym recommended I switch to the elliptical. Whenever I try it, my legs hurt so much I can only last five minutes. My quads hurt, and my lower legs too. I have very small/weak/practically nonexistent calf muscles. I am wondering if elliptical requires too much calf strength for me. I can do the treadmill at 15% incline, but the elliptical kills me.
Should I just keep doing it each time I do cardio, for as long as I can, then switch to the treadmill? Maybe I'll eventually get used to it. I feel like such a wimp.

Keep doing it. Does it stop hurting when you stop? If it's muscles that are hurting, slow down! Elliptical is very good for you.0
