What kind of engine are you?
So I was posting about engines as a metaphor for metabolism (sometimes you need to add more fuel to speed your metabolism up) and I got to thinking: what kind of engine do you see yourself as? Me: Chevy big block (572), high horsepower, high torque, high speed. Hampered by weight. haha!

The Mt. Banner Challenge
When I was littler my family lived for a time at Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort (Mammoth Lakes, CA). Not far away stand the jagged peaks of the Minaret Range and towering 12,950 ft. above Thousand Island Lake is Mt. Banner. Second only to the 13,157 ft. Ritter in the range and a tad more climbable. re-introducing... me!
Hi everyone. I was on this site back in 2009 and did quite well, dropping 24 lbs over 3 months. Well now I'm back, weighing too much again after what have been a roller-coaster of a few years (especially financially). But the season is very good for me for now, so it's time to focus on dropping my weight. I was influenced…

Poor quality food vs. good quality food
I've been pondering this for some time. I was going to Starbucks the other evening and noticed that about 3/4 of the people sitting outside were visibly overweight. I commented to my friend that America (including us!) is just getting fat. Then a revelation on the Starbucks menu. I love a white-chocolate mocha. A…

Hit the gas, spun up the turbo :)
Well this may be a bit of bragging, but... I decided to make this weekend an exercise weekend, because I was bored and broke. This is my weekly exercise summary: Daily Total / Goal: 80 / 30 544 / 400 (minutes) Weekly Total / Goal: 481 / 150 4315 / 2000 (calories) I would encourage anyone not sure what to do on the weekend…

Three full weeks in the books!
-11 lbs (max) and probably -9 lbs, due to my moderate level of dehydration this morning, resultant from slightly too much alcohol over the last 4 days. But whatever! We all need a break sometimes. Eating has not been perfect, but the calories count has kept me from overeating even if its junk food. I've been drinking my…

Week one in the books
A short week, owing that I began with MFP on the 25th, but still a successful start. No exercise days missed, though need to add more running, less walking. Overall only one day over on calories (by like 70) and a project 10 lbs weight loss for the first month. "The beginning is the half of all; well begun, half done." --…

another water question
So the recommendation is 8 cups per day. Easy. When I ran my intervals today, I sweated. As summer wears on here, its hard to walk outside without being drenched in sweat. So the question is, when running, is there a rule of thumb of water to add per exercise time? Just wondering given the earlier questions on drinking too…
