Depression and Anxiety: What works for you?
I hit one year sobriety at the beginning of this month. After pondering what a next step was, I decided to come back to MFP. I'd had success in the past and wanted another taste. My success here had helped me regulate other areas of my life, but alcohol eventually contributed to making my exercise and eating practices…

The Benefit of Burdens
A week or so ago, I heard a good analogy that's stuck in my mind and which I've been thinking about since I heard it. The story goes that a man drove into the mountains, one winter, to cut firewood. He managed to get his truck stuck in the snow and even with the four-wheel drive, couldn't quite get out of his predicament.…

From the ignominious pile of McDoubles wrappers to MyFitnessPal
Welp...here I am. 220lbs a couple years ago and now at just under 280lbs. It's not rock-bottom...but it's low enough for me. If you're a pretty consistent, no-nonsense plodder/grinder/work-doer, we should be MFP friends! Shout me out when I do a good job and I'll shout YOU out when YOU do a good job. Give me a "tsk tsk"…

Kinda, Maybe, Sorta...
I'm kinda watching what I eat and I"m kinda exercising. I need to remove the "kinda" out of there, but I have a laundry list of excuses to which I'm clinging (e.g., work, kids, stress, class, social obligations, etc.). Anyone else have that problem?

167+ lbs lost. 10lbs more to "goal"(pics)
When I first started using Myfitnesspal, I'd smirk and snicker and think "who does that?" when peeps would write that they didn't have any fat pics of themselves and opine on causes, e.g., subconscious shame. It didn't take me too long to realize I was one of those people and that I hardly had any fat pics of myself. A few…

From "Can't Walk" to "Like to Run" (Warning: Surgery pics)
Apologies to my MFP friends who've already heard the story. I thought I'd share it here too as a way of paying back to the peeps who've helped inspire me. In 2007, I was working out with my younger brother, studying/practicing football fundamentals. He was playing linebacker and I was playing running back. I ran a…

Being fit/health conscious a part of good parenting?
I started thinking about my health/fitness more critically when my son was born. A year and a half later, when I found out I had a daughter on the way, I started to do something about my health/fitness. I remember having bad dreams in which I needed to run for help, or to run to carry my kids away from danger, but was…

Calorie "Window" instead of Calorie "Goal"
So, I was eating at a 1000 cal deficit (per MFPs recommendation re: my stated goal of two lost pounds a week). I changed a week or so ago to a 750 cal deficit to 1). have a few more calories to work with (or "with which to work" for all you grammar Nazis:wink: ), and 2) because since I was often coming in 50-100 calories…

re: Peeps with no Profile Pic
When people with no profile pic ask to add me, I'm like, "Umm...I'm already putting more effort into this relationship than you are...so, no." I kinda feel the same way about those peeps who have one photo (often times, it's not even of themselves) and have not filled in any information. Thoughts?

Flexing at Work
For all you desk jockey's out there (and really...everyone else too), I thought it'd be cool to see some flex at work pics. Lately, and since I've been working out more regularly, I'll sit at work, in my same desk, with the same conservative dress clothes that I usually wear, and enjoy the idea that to the peeps in my…

NSV - Of Motorcycles, Cops and Weight Loss
I used to ride bullet bikes until I started gaining weight and my friend commented that a fat guy on a bullet bike looks like a pitbull trying to hump a football. I switched to cruisers and currently ride a VTX 1300 (downgraded from the 1800 a couple years ago to save a bit on gas). Anyhooo. Burning down one of the main…

Weight lifting...suggestions?
So, I haven't lifted seriously since college (late 90's early 2000's). Back then I didn't have to think too much about what to do--a coach would yell at me and I would do whatever he said. :) The result is that I never really learned how to develop a good weight lifting plan or understand which lifts had what effect on my…

So far, so good...
I'm 100+ down. Would like to drop at least 50+ more. Here's what I've done so far: I did most of this by walking, quitting soda, adjusting portion sizes, etc. For the last 30lbs or so, I've been counting calories (Thanks "LoseIt" and "MFP"), and I recently started working out more earnestly. I'm currently using some of the…

RE: Water Counter
When I drink water, I record it as water drunk. When I drink tea, I record it as water drunk. Where do you draw the line on counting a drink as water? Clearly, chocolate milk doesn't count...but what about something like 'Sparkling ICE', which is mainly sparkling water with some flavor? Do you count that as water? What…

Looking for friends to help with the journey:)
I started passively trying to lose weight a few years ago by quitting drinking soda. That was a good first step. Then, a few months ago, I started using "Lose it". That worked for me until a co-worker told me about My Fitness Pal. I made the switch and have really liked it. Now I'm thinking that having friends on here…
