Peels, Cores, Pits, Etc.
When you enter a food by weight does that include the inedible bits - like a banana peel? I just had a Honeycrisp apple. It weighed 201 grams, but I didn't actually eat 201 grams of apple because I didn't eat the core. I know it's not a lot of calories, but I was just wondering!

Really Nice NSV
I just finished competing in the annual bonspiel at our curling club. There are a lot of teams that we don't see during our league play, and only see them at this weekend tournament. We said hello to the members of one such team this year, and later at the bar, one of them came up to me and told me I'd lost so much weight…

Being asked how much weight you've lost
I was just in the elevator with someone I work with on an infrequent basis. She commented on my weight loss, which I took as a nice compliment, but then she followed it up with "so, how many pounds have you lost?" Rude or not? I mean, I broadcast that number on my ticker here on the site, so it's not like it's kept under…

Yoga DVD for seniors?
Does anyone have any recommendations of a good basic yoga DVD for seniors? My mother is 74 and has found that she has gotten very stiff in the past couple of years. I have found that yoga has helped me loosen up, so I think it might help her. (My grandmother did yoga into her 80s and was very fit). Any recommendations…

Wonderful Compliment
I ran into our facilities manager this morning who I don't see on a regular basis. We said hello and exchanged polite chit chat. She just came by my office and told me that she didn't recognize me this morning and what a wonderful job I've done at losing weight. So nice to hear since I've been feeling like I'm stuck in a…

Increasing Mileage - C210K program
I completed C25K a little over a month ago, and I've been running roughly 3 miles every other day since then. I generally run for 30 minutes at a time, with a pace hovering between 9:30 - 10:00 min / mile. I want to increase my mileage, so I downloaded a C210K program onto my phone. This program has me starting with doing…

NSV - It pays to lose weight!
This morning I decided to try on a pair of size 6 pants that had been hiding in the back of my closet since 2006 or 2007. I tried them on and they fit perfectly! Yay, great NSV! Then I noticed that there was something in one of the back pockets. When I fished it out, it turned out to be a $20 bill!!! Score!!! So, it turns…

Salt and Home-Cooking
As a treat my husband had lunch in his building's cafeteria today rather than the salad he normally has for lunch. He had a steak sandwich and some fries. He just emailed me to tell me that he could barely eat any of it because it all tasted so salty to him. For the past couple of months we've pretty much avoided all…

5K advice
I've been doing C25K for the past couple of months, and I'm set to be done this week. On Saturday, I did my 28 minute run and completed pretty much did 3 miles exactly. I found a 5K locally next Saturday that I'm interested in doing. My husband said he'd do it too. Although he plays some soccer - mostly as goalie, and he…

C25K NSV
This morning I ran 20 minutes without stopping. I know that for some of you that might not seem like a big deal, but it's *huge* deal for me. The last time I ran so long was more than 8 years ago, when I weighed almost 20 pounds less than I do right now. Because this was the first day on C25K with uninterrupted running, I…

Turkey Shepherd's Pie
I adapted this recipe - http://www.sunnysideupsd.com/2012/03/shepherds-pie-with-ground-turkey/ - for dinner last night and boy it was delicious!!! Ingredients 1Tbsp olive oil 4 ounces medium carrot, diced 4 ounces celery stalk, diced (2 stalks) 3 clove garlic, minced or pressed 1 small-medium onion, diced 4 ounces sliced…

Wish me luck!
I just upped my calorie goals because, per a variety of calculators, the 1210 recommended by MFP was below my BMR. I've been on this weight-loss journey before and managed to lose weight quickly (and then put it all back on, plus a little more), so I really want to be sensible this time, so I really don't want to lose more…

No Longer Overweight Per BMI!
I've been on MFP since February 2nd, at which time I weighed in at 177 pounds, and a BMI of 29.5 given my height of 5'5". Today, after more than eight months I weighed in at 149.4, for a BMI of 24.9, no longer in the "overweight" zone! This was one of my goals for September, and I'm over the moon! I've still got…

Is walking a rest day?
Sorry if this sounds stupid, but can I walk a couple of miles on a rest day at 4.0 mph, or would that eliminate the benefit of having a rest day?

Stowaways - Sneaky Calories?
I've been on MFP since February, but I've decided that this month I'm truly going to log *everything* I eat and drink and in just five days of doing this I've been surprised by the sneaking stowaway calories that I wasn't logging before! Just adding up the 5 or 10 calories here or there from gum, Crystal Light, skim milk…

Accuracy of MFP Calorie Counts for Exercise?
I just downloaded an iPhone app to track my walking / running, and it also estimates calories burned from a particular workout. Today I walked 5.65 miles at a pace slightly above 4.5 mph. MFP has me burning over 500 calories for 77 minutes of walking at 4.5 mph. This other app has me burning fewer than 200!! Does MFP…

Perception of Body During Weight Loss
I've lost 22 pounds s-l-o-w-l-y since joining MFP in February. I'm about halfway to my goal weight and I've noticed that even though I've lost weight, in some ways, when I look at myself in the mirror, I feel like I "look heavier" than I did when I started. I think part of it is that after gaining weight over the past few…

Seeking Recommendations for Strong Tasting Foods
I'm looking for recommendations for strong tasting, but lower calorie, foods to add to recipes / salads. For example, I generally bring in a greek salad for lunch because I like the strong taste of feta and kalamata olives. Similarly, I'll add a lot of sauteed mushrooms to recipes because I like the strong taste. Any other…
