Staying motivated while depressed
How does anyone stay motivated while they're depressed? Due to depression, I've completely fallen off the wagon because I just don't want to do anything. I'll have good intentions the night before and tell myself that I'll work out the next day, plan out the exercises that I want to do, but when I wake up I just can't get…

I need workout help!
I want to lose a significant amount of weight (70lbs or so). My currant routine is 40 minutes of interval cardio on the elliptical 2 days a week, along with 2 days of strength training on the machines for at least 30 minutes with a 20 minute interval warm-up on the elliptical. The thing is, I really don't care for the days…

I nap a lot, is that normal?
Like the title says, I nap...a lot. And I'm not talking about an hour or so a day on 5 or 6 hours of sleep, no. I sleep for about 7.5 to 8.5 hours of sleep at night on average, then I come home after work and can take a 3 to 4 hour nap every day, even on the days that I don't work. When I take a nap, I'll set an alarm and…

I feel like a failure
Plain and simple, I feel like I've failed. I have no motivation, I have no desire to do anything. I go to work, come home, take a nap, eat, then go to bed, and do it all over again the next day. I've gotten myself into this pit where I do the same thing every day, gained back all of the weight that I've lost, and I'm not…

Fitness Blender 8 week program success?
Has anyone done the Fitness Blender 8 week program? If so, would you mind sharing your thoughts/success? I just bought a copy of it and am excited to start!

Almost to Onederland!
Out of curiosity, I stepped on the scale this morning. I usually weigh myself in the afternoon or the evenings, just depending on when I get to the gym. But this morning, I stepped on it and I started to cry. Why? Because that sucker flashed me with a 198.8. I have not been under 200 lbs in over 6 years. I am so happy…

Best upper/lower body workouts
I recently joined my local gym and I plan on going at least three times a week, hopefully four. My plan is to alternate between working my upper and lower body, but I'm not really sure what the best exercises are. I have access to the machines and free weights. Also, should I incorporate cardio and core training into it?

Sometimes I don't want to keep going....
These last few months have been a hot mess. I've gained a few pounds and have had no motivation. I feel like crap. But this picture reminds me to keep going, even when I don't want to. In the first picture, I was celebrating my 21st birthday. My grandma, who was simply amazing, passed away about seven months before hand,…

Newbie with questions!
How do I even start this program? I've read about and watched the videos, and while it all seems good to read about, I don't even know where to start. I'm obese (210 lbs) and I would consider myself fairly weak. I don't really have access to a gym, but I do have some dumbbells at home. Should I start with those and go from…

Stonglifts 5X5 successes - I'm interested
Hi all! So after reading and posting about this yesterday, I'm interested in starting the 5X5 program. My problem is I have no clue where to start. I would consider myself fairly weak, so I'm not sure if I would be able to lift a barbell without weights on it. Could I start with using dumbbells and work my way up? Any…

Former obese peps that started lifting - I have questions!
For those of you that were obese when you started strength training, how long did it take you to see results? How long did it take for the scales to drop? Did you do a program or hop to machines/free weights all nimbly-bimbly like? Are free weights better to start out with or are machines? Yeah, can you tell I'm a complete…

Question about strength training
For the last several weeks, I've been focusing on strength training. I got on the scale today, since it's my weigh in day, and over the last several weeks, I've gained 4 lbs. I know that muscle weighs more than fat, but I'm wondering how long it takes for the scales to drop. I know I shouldn't focus so much on the scales,…

Food drive for students
This isn't a fitness post, but I'm hoping some of my mfp family could help with this. I'm doing my student teaching at an incredibly low income school, where many of the students' families have trouble getting basic items such as clothes or food. Many of the families are homeless or live in the motels in the area. The…

Down 30+ lbs and it's not moving... =(
I've been lacking a lot of motivation these last couple of weeks. The scale hasn't moved since June, I've lost maybe 1/2 and inch and I'm just frustrated. But I have to remember this didn't happen overnight. I lost 30 pounds in a year once I actually started to workout. I would skip workouts for weeks, then workout for…

Fitness blender success
I would love to know what your success has been with using fitness blender. I've been at a plateau for about 3 months, and I'm hoping that this will break it!

3 NSV's today!
Good thing number 1. I ordered three shirts online. I have to return all three because they're all WAY too big. Good thing number 2. I can see some baby muscles coming in on my arms. Awesome thing number 3. I weight trained for 75 minutes today. And even though I felt like dying during my planks, squats, and lunges, I did…

Weights or weights + cardio?
So I've recently gotten into weight training, and I'm LOVING it so far, I feel like I'm going to die while doing it, but I feel like a badass when I'm done. But my question is, do you get more results from weight lifting plus cardio or is weight lifting enough on its own?

NSV: I bought a bikini
Yup, I bought one. I may not look awesome in it and I still have a lot of weight to lose, but I actually don't think it looks too terrible, so I figured what the hell. Now whether or not I'm going to wear it is the question. So here it is folks, brace yourselves.

NSV...Well, kind of
So, I went and had my measurements done today to get a better idea of what a healthy weight should be based off of my frame, height, BF% and all that good stuff. I'm 5 foot 4, and always thought that I should probably weigh around 140 or so. Well imagine my complete and utter shock when the guy told me that my healthy…

that your body may just need a small break from working out to break a plateau?

Why am I gaining instead of losing. Help!
I thought I was in a plateau earlier this week, but I weighed myself today and I've gained two pound in the past two weeks, at the beginning of June I was at 205 - 207, now I'm at 210. I don't know what I could possibly be doing wrong, I workout at least three times a week for 30 minutes, at least, and I'm eating anywhere…

How to get past a plateau
For nearly 4 weeks I've been stuck at 205-208 lbs, I got to the gym for cardio at least twice a week and work out at home at least once a week, mainly lifting free weights or doing bodyweight exercises and I rarely go over my calorie limit. I'm not sure if I need to mix things up at the gym, I usually do the elliptical for…

Does anyone else have constant migraines?
I have a migraine disorder that causes me to have a migraine 15+ days out of the month, when I do get them they can go on for days or weeks, my longest one last 22 days. I'm on medication for it, but it really doesn't do me any good, it just makes me feel off. I'm wondering how some of you guys work out if you have the…

My progress so far (pics)
I haven't really been able to tell the difference until I compared these two pictures side by side. When I look in the mirror I still see the fat girl, but she is getting a little smaller. I kind of lost my motivation a few months back and have been on a stand still, but seeing these two pictures together has given me my…

When to start strength training
I've lost about 33 pounds so far and have at least 50 more that I want to lose. I do mainly cardio workouts, such as the elliptical, treadmill, or bike. But I'm wondering when I should start any strength training and how much I should even do. I don't want have super defined muscles, but I do want to be toned and to not…
