Dallas Marathon! December 14, 2014
I'm finally going to do it! I started training today, so I've got a several weeks to ramp my miles back up from a 55k a few weeks ago. My first road marathon! WOOT!! The farthest I've run on a road this year is 7 miles, my last road race was a half marathon this time LAST year, so I've got a few things to work out. Like,…

Iliopsoas issues, stretch recommendations?
Any one have this? I'm SUPER flexible from a zillion years of yoga (and a stint as a yoga instructor) and I'm having a hard time getting a good stretch for my super painful iliopsoas (right side) because the stretches are too easy. I have on my list: deep lunges (knee up), pigeon pose, tree pose those aren't super…

over-trained, whiny mess.....
it's time for my bi-annual over-training meltdown! WOOT! I don't need any advice, I only need to complain. In June I did 6hr race, then a hard 30k trail race the next weekend, then three weeks later followed by challenging (but short 30k, 18k) trail runs on back to back weekends, then two weeks later another hard 30k.…

Rocky Raccoon 50 Mile, 2/2/2012 Huntsville, TX
I wrote a bit about my experience running my first 50 mile race. Here's the deal: I ran a 50k in Dec, then had holidays, the flu for 2 wks-ish, then half way thru Jan half-assedly started training for a trail marathon 10wks away (then ..it's in 3?? wks now). I got up to 15 miles one saturday, woke up the next day and…

Endurance Runners: Help me figure out a good food....
to eat while running (trail running). I used to eat peanut butter and jelly on whole wheat bread, but for the last year or so I've noticed that wheat makes my head itchy and scabby, so I try to avoid it (obviously) but for long runs (15 miles or more) I need something easy to eat...not too crunchy or dry, not too sticky or…

Vegan is disordered eating?
An acquaintance is a substance abuse therapist (psychologist) and she told me that I had an eating disorder because eliminating and entire food group is disordered eating. Is this a common belief among mental health professionals? If so, a lot of us are CRAaaaa-zzzzzy. My own opinion is that eating things you know cause…

Find a Running Club! Learn to Run!
I've seen a lot of people (esp those who are overweight) struggling alone learning to run w/ c25k. It IS a great program but not all people are motivated to do it on their own. Plus, running is a bit boring. I did c25k for 5 weeks before my first 5k, overweight ,mind you! and it helped me get started. But, as it got…

The Ultimate Uncheese Cookbook..which recipes to try?
I've tried the Cheez Please soup, it's spectacular. I want to try one of the block cheeses to use for sandwiches or for pizza topping. I REALLY need a pizza cheese of some kind. I think Daiya tastes like dirt, and it doesn't melt "normally" so that won't work. I don't personally need any pizza but one of my kids is super…

Salad is not my friend...
Every time I eat salad or raw vegetables, I get the worst stomach pain EVER, for hours and hours, until I throw up! It's like the vegetables just sit in the un-digested making me miserable! And, it's not EVERY raw veg, I can eat celery, carrots, spinach just fine, but lettuce, kale, tomatoes, peppers, ...anything else,…

Daily Calories Increased with exercise?
I find this annoying when trying to see how many calories I have left. I want to stick to my daily calories goal ONLY, not have it fluctuate because I worked out. That's so idiotic...calories in/ out don't work that way and certainly not that immediately. I know I can totally not track my work outs, but I like to see them…
