Ankle / wrist weights
Anybody have any idea how much the use of ankle or wrist weights increases calories burned? Or do they not burn any extra and only serve to increase resistance for strength training purposes? I ask because I've added 5# weights to each ankle for step aerobics and the rhythm boxing I do on the Wii Fit. I also wear both the…

How much time do you schedule?
So how much time do you dedicate per day / week to exercise? Three days a week my wife and I are doing about two hours of mixed strength/resistance training & cardio. (75 mins strength training, about 45 mins of cardio) Three days a week we do about an hour of cardio. We take a day off but often end up doing something that…

'Net' calorie minimum requirement?
Hey all; I had a friend (former fitness coach) tell me that if I ate less than1,200 calories per day, my body could perceive 'starvation' and try to store every calorie it could as fat. My goal/plan is to lose one pound per week and my BMR is just over 2200 calories per day, so I'm at a 1710 limit. Today I've taken in…

blood pressure change?
Has anyone else noticed, within a few weeks or months of beginning their exercise program, a measurable difference in their blood pressure? A year and a half ago, when I was 210 pounds and not exercising, my resting BP was about 130/80. 16 months later, with on again/off again dieting and exercising, I'm 11 pounds lighter,…

December Ellipitcal Challenge?
So I keep seeing walking challenges... and I know people who refer to ellipticals as a tool of torture... that said... It's easy on my knees and back and I can burn plenty of calories on it. Would anyone care to join me for a December elliptical challenge? My goal is six days per week, minimum 30 minutes per day on the…

Again...
Good day, all!! Day after Thanksgiving here in the states - and many folks I know NOW worrying about their weight. I'm "back in the saddle" and paying attention - but am slightly aggravated about the weight gain I've allowed myself after all the hard work I did to LOSE some of it previously. I've found that the more…

Admit your vice
A buddy of mine, LONG time weight watchers guy, freely admits his vice is peanut M&Ms. I don't have that kind of vice. Mine is cigars... rarely... once or twice a week max. And since I only smoke good ones (and puff, not inhale for what that's worth) I can't afford to do it anymore than that anyway. So... what's YOUR vice?…

Does anyone know why...
When you input cardio exercise in the daily diary it gives you calorie credits (calories burned) but if you put in strength training exercise you get no calorie credits? Am I wrong in thinking that strength exercises also burn calories?

Two weeks in...
Good day! My name is Frank and I'm now about two weeks in to using MyFitnessPal. I've enjoyed the journal tools available and have learned a few things as a result of tracking the food, exercise, etc. Just wanted to say HI!

Original Success
As with many (from what I understand) when I first kicked off a "fitness program" my initial success was fast and relatively easy. What I didn't know at the time was that my intake was off balance as far as carbs, fat and protein. I'm 45 years old, work in front of a computer most days, am 5-10 and was 207.5. In the first…
