BodyPump at the YMCA?
Has anybody taken this class? I'd love some tips/experiences/testimonials, if you have them. Does it depend on how hard you work/heavy you lift? Or does it really depend on the instructor? Thanks.

Eat back all of your exercise calories or you WILL DIE.
What is this business about starvation mode? I find myself wrapped up in these "debates" with people telling me that eating 1200 and not eating back my calories from exercise will make me starve. Not everybody eats their calories back, and they are fine. Is this just another example of people thinking they know everything…

“Magic Weight Loss Cure For Every Body Type.”
http://healthylifestyletrends.com/Weight_Loss/ Another Dr. Oz sponsor. Here is the case study, which states that green coffee bean extract can result in significant weight loss: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3267522/ There were only 16 participants in the study, 8 of which took the pill (the other 8 took…

I lost my cat to FIV on Wednesday.
People suggested I reach out, to talk about it, so here I am. I'll do my best. This is my cat, TigerTom. His fur was soft. His pur was deep. He loved only me. He would kiss me constantly and all he wanted was for us to lay together as I talked to him. I've had him for a very long time (16 years). He was an indoor cat his…

Obese flier turned away from airlines; dies overseas
http://www.nbcnews.com/travel/obese-flier-turned-away-airlines-dies-overseas-1C7277987 Saw this little gem online. What do you think? An ailing, 425-pound woman who was turned away by three airlines as she tried to return to the U.S. from Europe has died overseas, prompting legal action from her family. Vilma Soltesz and…

Size 14/16 to size 4; 40 pounds lost (in 6 months)
Slightly mortifying, but I need the shock and embarrassment to motivate myself to keep going and push myself harder. Goal weight: 125-130. Trying to tone up and lose some fat. Still in progress, this is not a "reach goal" post. Here is my other post, about 10 - 15 pounds ago:…

I eat fast food and wheats/grains every. Single. Day.
And I've lost almost 40 pounds since May (I use the gym machine three times a week and order the healthier things off the menu like a clever kitten). So I was just wondering... Am I a unicorn? Because some of the posts today are ridonc. And I'm starting to wonder.

Show me your Halloween costumes!
1. What will you be this year for Halloween? 2. Show me your best costumes! I LOVE dressing up and am always looking for ideas. Which years did you really go all out? Post your pictures. I'm not a huge fan of putting on something sexy and strapping bunny ears to my head. I like real costumes. Here's my Halloween past: I've…

Exercising while you are Sick is futile.
Sorry if this has been posted before. I was trying to find out if I should go to my kickboxing/weight training classes even though I have a bad cough and disgusting congestion (won't go into the details), and I stumbled across this article. It was interesting. Especially when it says the body loses muscle when it is Sick…

Excuse me? An eating disorder?
I know this sounds odd, but I remember my friend being offended that someone thought she had an eating disorder (I promise you… She did not.) I remember just brushing her off like, “oh, please, if only I got those comments!” (I was just below 190 at this point). I totally get it, now. My mom and now apparently grandmother…

Eating out: Decent soups?
Which restaurant serves decent soup that doesn’t have 1,000 grams of fat and ten billion grams of sodium? I’m super sickly today and needing soup but only have outside choices. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

Help motivate my mom!
Hey, guys. My mom is 66 and after seeing how I lost weight wants to get healthy again. Do any of you have a link to a success story, with pictures, that I could show my mom for motivation? One that really stuck out to you? If you do, that would be great. Thanks so much.

Before and after: Is this the same dress!?
Hey guys, you've seen my before and afters, but I just saw this old pic of me in a dress that I put on again a few weeks ago and thought I'd share. 185 - 153. I've lost a bit since then, but look about the same. Isn't it weird how we think clothes fit us until we lose weight and they look how they were ORIGINALLY supposed…

Anybody else never been skinny?
I know there are, but I'd like to hear your story. I see all of these progress stories about people who gained weight with a pregnancy or "relapsed" up to 130s - 140s. I can't wait until I consider that a high weight!! I was just wondering who else on here has never been skinny and how it felt when you were skinny, or what…

Embarrassed by support from friends?
Does anybody else get uncomfortable when people tell them they’ve lost weight? I’m not saying I don’t enjoy it or squeal/smile about it later, but when someone I know comments on the weight I’ve lost, I’m always backtracking and finding other reasons why they think that. “These pants aren’t baggy; I probably just need to…

To have bang or not to have bang.
Hey guys. I'm trying to figure out whether to get bangs or not to get bangs. Maybe if you are bored enough you can help. Without bangs: (I'm on the right in the picture above) (I'm on the left in the picture above) With bangs: Excuse the no makeup in the last picture. It'd been a long day. Sooo... thanks for your input. If…

Cardio makes you fat: "Women: Running into Trouble"
I can't remember if this has already been discussed-- if it has, I'll take a link to the thread. What do you think about this snarky article that says cardio makes your body store fat and will make you GAIN weight? I'd like opinions on this. At least a few of you seem to be knowledgeable on this topic. What do you think?…

Polar FT4!
I just got my Polar FT4 in the mail this morning, and used it during Zumba. 45 minutes and 515 calories! It was ridiculously easy to set up-- I've never before had a heart rate monitor but set it up in five minutes, right before I jumped to the gym. Does anybody else have this HRM? I'm in love with mine! It makes chirps,…

Is Insanity a "shortcut"?
I was talking to my friend about this. She is a runner and weight trainer, and she recommends that nobody do Insanity, or similar high-intensity workouts. She views them as a "shortcut". I have no opinion, because that's not my style, but I was curious and asked her why she thought this was so, since it looks very…

Your username -- how'd you come up with it?
How did you come up with your username? A couple of my MFP friends and I were chatting about this and I am curious. Mine is one of my middle names. What's yours?

BMI Tool -- BS!
Does anybody else feel that the BMI charts are out of wack? I am 5'4" and apparently it would be in the healthy range if I weighed 107. I weigh 165 now and am already feeling like I am not at an "unhealthy" state. To be "healthy", I have to weigh under 145? It just sounds ridiculous. I am a curvy person, and though my goal…

The Polar FT7 versus the Polar FT4
Which one do you have? Pros? Cons? Which one seems to estimate calories more accurately? I am in the market for one and these two seem to be top on my list. I like the fact that the FT4 comes in pink, but that’s not really the point of the watch, is it? I just want something that will be very comfortable, work efficiently,…

What is your source of protein after weights?
I get off of work at 5, drive immediately to the gym, have an hour-long heavy lifting class at 6pm, then a fifteen minute break, and then intense Zumba at 7:15. I need some protein after the weight class, but I only have fifteen minutes, I am pretty limited to whatever I bring with my or that is in my locker, and I don’t…

Where can I buy some Rykas in store?
I'm trying to find Ryka Studio Flex - Low for my kick boxing, hip-hop, and Zumba classes. Anybody know where I can find some in store? I HATE buying shoes online. Such a hassle and my size is always different.

Tryng to find a Zumba shoe in-store!
I hate buying shoes online (my foot size varies so much) and I need some shoes for my kick boxing, Zumba, and hip-hop class. Any suggestions? What do you use? I wanted to use the Ryka sutdio flex lows, but they are only sold online (so it seems) and I am so not going that route! Any advice?

Reached my first goal.. Now I'm scared.
Now that I have hit my first goal, I'm so afraid I will get fat again that I can't enjoy it. I celebrated at all of the other mini celebrations these past months, but I can't seem to enjoy this one. I was a size 14, pushing 16, and now I am a size 8. I should be hollering and jumping up and down, right? But I can't enjoy…

Just joined... No smokes in 3 weeks!
Hey guys, I was pointed in this group's direction from a post I just made about plateauing because of quitting. Three weeks ago I stopped losing weight-- hmmm... I quit smoking three weeks ago! I am not eating more in place of it, I know that for a fact. Nothing slips by on my MFP diary! Is there any way to skip over this…
