Fun size M&Ms not so fun when I go to log
Was at a department meeting today during my lunch period. They had a big bowl of fun size M&Ms. I had never had the caramel or peanut butter M&Ms, so I tried both fun sizes --- would go ahead and log them before I went back to my classroom for lunch. Yikes! At 90 calories each, those two fun sizes wound up replacing what…

ID photo shows results of my journey
I started in earnest on my new eating journey on Valentine's Day this year. So far, I have lost 69 pounds. Didn't really feel it was real until I got my new school ID. Wow! Side-by-side with last year, what a difference! I'm so happy!

Lying to friends and family about weighing myself
Serial dieter here ... have in the past tried so many different diets with temporary success, only to gain it back again. This time, I'm not doing a diet, really doing the life change. I started in February this year (on Valentine's Day), and have lost 51 pounds so far. But I didn't tell ANYONE I was "dieting" or making…

Travel NSV - didn't need extension for seat belt!
I've lost 45 pounds, but my greatest joy so far was when I got on the plane, I could actually buckle my seat belt without asking for an extension. I've always hated that embarrassing moment when I had to ask for one. Now, yippee!

Incredible WOO "news" article about losing weight by taking off your shoes
I could not believe anyone could print this article and maintain any credibility: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2018/05/20/removing-shoes-entering-house-could-help-people-stay-slim-scientists/

Wearing the wrong glasses can mess up your calorie count
I've just switched from bifocals to progressive lenses. Guess I'm not used to them yet. When I was at Panera's yesterday, I ordered a sandwich that the board said was 680 calories (or so I thought). When I got home and logged it in myfitness, boy was I shocked to see that it really was 980 calories. That little error was…

Down 10%
It took my 128 days, but I have now lost 30 pounds, which is 10% of my body weight. Yeah!!!!

Riverboat cruise and didn't gain any weight!
Last week I went on a riverboat cruise on the American Queen paddlewheeler up the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. Oh, boy, did they have a great chef onboard! I went with the plan that i would still log as best i could, and the intention to eat at maintenance. If possible, up my exercise to earn some more more calories (the…

You know it's becoming a lifestyle change when...
I'm now over 100 days into my journey and I'm truly beginning to feel that this is a true lifestyle change. Today when I caught myself actually counting out the number of pretzel sticks when I was grabbing a quick snack, that's when I knew I had arrived. Especially when I realized that even though the label said 28 sticks…

Getting started again after succumbing to emotional eating
I started seriously on MyFitnessPal back on July 15, 2012. At 290 pounds, I knew I had to make major changes in my relationship with food. With the support of friends on this site, I did a good job of keeping to a new food lifestyle and logging every day. I even started going to a gym -- hired a personal trainer to get me…

Body Fat NSV
When I joined my gym back in the Fall, they took my vital statistics. All except for body fat percentage. That's because I was literally off the chart for the machine. They use that hand-held machine to gauge your body fat. Apparently, it only measures up to 50% body fat. Mine was too high to measure. I used various…

How do you wear a HRM chest strap?
i want to get a heart rate monitor to help me get a better grasp on how much energy I'm expending during exercise. After reading these forums, it seems that so many feel that for best results, a HRM should have a chest strap. But how do you wear it? Where on the chest. I am a very big-busted woman and am concerned about…

Christmas last year and this year
Here's what 6 months of MFP has done for me -- 42 pounds lost (actually, the 2011 picture wasn't at my heaviest). Same clothes (except for the blouse) a year later. Imagine if I'd actually started with MFP on January instead of July! Can't wait to see next year's Christmas pictures.

My wimpy cheat day
Gee, I can't even do a cheat day right! (Background, I've gained 4 pounds by the scale in the last two weeks, even though I haven't exceeded my calorie range .... depression!) So.... Wow, I decided I would do a cheat day .... gee, what I did I cheat on?. I had two fully-caffeinated Diet Cokes and instead of the school…

hard to keep motivated
For the second week in a row, I've gained two pounds. And i've kept within my calorie goals (1700 calories a day, but most days i've been between 1500 and 1600 this week). Not looking for advice - just whining. Very worried that the progress i had made since july (losing 40 pounds) is going to vanish. Gotta go to work -…

Major gym NSV - relying on the kindness of strangers
Lately I have been feeling very sorry for myself --- throwing awesome private pity parties. Part of it is that I recently hurt my knee somehow and I've been in a lot of pain, especially when I walk (I see a doctor tomorrow about it, but that's another story). Also, I gained two pounds last week, even though I was true to…

Aw, come on! Two pounds up? No way!!!
i really didn't expect on my journey that i would consistently lose week to week. i have really been blessed that since starting 150 days ago each week i have shown a loss .... until this week. Okay, i was prepared for a plateau. But GAINED two pounds? I made it through my birthday losing weight. I made it through…

Fifteen inches gone - no pictures
I'm so glad I've been taking measurements! It is such a great motivator when the inches drop off. The scale doesn't always move, so it's great to have that other motivator in the form of a tape measure. Alas, I don't have that third great motivator --- photos! I weigh in every Monday morning. Now, I confess, I also sneak…

People are starting to notice
It's finally beginning to happen -- people are noticing. Even though I blog about my new lifestyle, I haven't told any of my friends about this journey. A part of me is still not accepting that this is my new lifestyle. I remember all the other failed "diets" and the awful disappointments when I failed again. I didn't want…

Enjoyed Thanksgiving and LOST ONE POUND! Wheee!
Wow! I'm beginning to think this may actually be a lifestyle change rather than a diet. I actually LOST a pound since my last weekend. I enjoyed Thanksgiving, but didn't go crazy overboard and kept on task the rest of the week. Gee. This lifestyle change stuff actually works. Happy dance!

Don't like my new trainer
When I joined YouFit I signed up for a trainer to work with once a week. The guy and I really clicked and I felt great working with him, so I signed up for 6 months (the price was great pre-paying). Alas and alack, that trainer has quit and I really don't like my new trainer. A couple of things: older man who has himself…

Success! 10% of me is missing
I'm 90+ days into my journey and, by the scale, I have now lost 10% of my body weight. Woohoo! Still a long way to go, but I'm on my way! Of course, when I found this out, I wanted to see what other milestones I could aim for. Well, that was a mistake. I've been trying to keep my eyes focused on just each day at a time,…

Emotional Cravings
It's finally hit me. I'm 75+ days into my journey and have lost 25 pounds so far. I've been reading other dieters posting about issues with cravings and hunger and been wondering, why aren't I having these issues? I've been obese for ... well, forever. I've always been an emotional eater. But I've been doing so well on my…

Post-Birthday way in - down 2 pounds
Woo-hoo! It was my birthday this week. I went out to my favorite restaurant and ate my favorites (in moderation and actually lost 2 pounds this week! Not much to say beyond that. I just wanted to post and see my ticker with the beautiful "25 pounds lost" on it. We can have our special occasion celebrations and still…

Birthday SV -- reached my mini-goal
This week I celebrated my birthday by achieving my first mini-goal. And, yes, it was a SV (scale victory), not an NSV and I'm very happy. When I first started this weight loss journey, I had in mind to get down to 250 pounds by Christmas (which would put me 41 pounds down from my highest weight). But as I limped, lurched,…

Workout NSV - gym goddess
I've been posting about starting out at the gym and how uncomfortable I felt. Thanks to inspiration and support from this group, I've kept at it. I'm getting rid of my paranoia that people are staring and laughing. I walk in with the attitutde, "I belong here. Look, I have a towel over my shoulder -- I'm one of you!" I'm…

Pants NSV
Had a lovely NSV (non-scale victory) today. I was in a hurry and grabbed a pair of slacks at random and was surprised that they were snug. Lately I've been so delighted with how loose my pants were. But suddenly, my pants are snug? And then the thought hit me! I ripped off the slacks and ran to the light to peer at the…

Bad choices day
Well, I'm 51 days into my journey and I've had my first really bad choices day. Went 285 calories over my daily limit. I know, not the end of the world. But I made bad choices for mid-day snack and bad choices for dinner. I could have easily made better choices and stayed within my calorie limit for the day. And a shame,…

Is everyone watching me? Paranoia while working out
I am now fifty days into my journey, and I have taken a few stumbles. My great plan to go cheap and active is a shambles. I have been walking in the evenings, trying to extend my time and increase my pace. Well, I stretched something --- I think I have done some major damage to my left knee. Granted, my left knee has been…
