Wearing the wrong glasses can mess up your calorie count

I've just switched from bifocals to progressive lenses. Guess I'm not used to them yet. When I was at Panera's yesterday, I ordered a sandwich that the board said was 680 calories (or so I thought). When I got home and logged it in myfitness, boy was I shocked to see that it really was 980 calories. That little error was 20% of my daily calories. Wow! Guess I need to look closer or ditch the progressives! Anyone else ever have a similar problem?

Sometimes the MFP entry is the one that is wrong. The database is all types of messed up. I would check the Panera website.2

It's not the glasses, it's the food. My personal favorite is Applebees for their Lighter Flare menu. I've noticed though, that even though they publish the calorie counts the salad I love is a different size every time I order it. So it can't be accurate. Subway does a decent job keeping it accurate because they have pre-measured ingredients, but it's still a ton of calories no matter how you roll those dice eating out. However, I know what you mean about mis-reading the calories, I've done it before. I've tried to limit myself to once a week eating out or less, it's helped keep me on track.1

I think we've all had Doh! moments. Whether its based on a visual error or mental one, the result is we realize after the fact something was more than expected. At least yours was a one time error - that is the silver lining perhaps?
One of my Doh! moments: Sometimes I'll bake a bag of frozen, seasoned potatoes. Like a faithful MFPer I use my kitchen scale. But for a while I was weighing the finished product and logging it by the lable of 85g=160 calories. It then occurred to me: the cooked product weighs less due to moisture being lost. The frozen potatoes are 85g=160 calories. After cooking they weigh 25-30% less. Oops. Once I realized my error I'd weigh before (to confirm the package contents totaled what they were supposed to) and then weigh after to see how much they changed. Then adjust my math/logging accordingly.1 -

I usually decide what I want, have looked up nutritional info online and logged it before going to a restaurant. So my eyes have checked the number multiple times in different places.

Just a side note not directly addressing the OP's issue: Panera recently changed their recipes to become more "clean." As a result, all the calorie counts went up. Check and double-check those numbers. My go-to meal went from 400 calories to 500.1
