Eating at a deficit or counting macros? Which is better for weight loss?
I've been focusing on my macros for so long that I'm wondering if that's why the scale doesn't move as much as it used to. It has taken me a few years to drop 150 pounds and I would like to get rid of the last 40. My endo told me to not go over 60g of carbs a day. This is doable; I've done less and it's worked....at one…

Low carb and spices
Trying to keep the carbs low, per my Endo. I notice that most of the carbs in my breakfast, for example, come from spices. A little onion, a little paprika, a little garlic, etc. It's about a carb each and breakfast adds up to about 10 carbs. Just wondering....Should I cut spices out? What's your take on it? Being…

Going over in healthy fats
Hi:) I've been concerned about going over in my fats almost daily. The fat comes from olive oil, nuts and cheese. I am always under my calorie goals, however. It's only the fat that I seem to go over in---I've been trying to cut it back, but I can go over by 18g. Need input, and many thanks:)

Another migraine:/
Not sure if it was the seasoning I used that has MSG in it (I have tossed out everything I made with that stuff, just in case), but I am still having these wicked migraines when I wake up in the morning. Cold compress helped, and everyone not talking to me really helped, LOL. But….is this part and parcel of the low carb…

Low calorie Gatorade G2
Last night, I kept drinking water; bottle after bottle; it was NOT quenching my thirst; I got even more thirsty and had dry mouth, dry throat. I went to the kitchen to get low cal, low carb G2 and it helped. I was quenched and able to sleep. Today, same thing-only I discovered that it was a cold coming on. I don't want to…

How many grams per day?
Just wondering how many grams per day to start up that wonderful weight loss that I had these first 2 weeks of low carb living. The scale stopped; it is making me nervous. I have more weight to lose. This is frustrating. I read somewhere about 50 maximum; I will shoot for that and see what happens. Lots of conflicting…

How do you log pizza toppings?
Not sure if this has been answered, but I figured I would ask, as a newbie to the low carb lifestyle. I loooove pizza and understand that I can only eat the toppings, which is quite fine with me as the topping is my favorite part;) I plan to order a small white pizza with broccoli, spinach and onions. If I am only eating…

Chia seeds? Share your experience/views:)
I have been reading up on Chia seeds and if the truth be known, was afraid if I consume them, plants would grow out of my ears and belly button;) Ch-ch-ch-Chia:) But....All kidding aside, I have read some truly good things about it. I took the chance and bought some today from my local market; Bob's Red Mill Whole Chia…

Trying to keep it low carb/high protein
I have been doing well this past week, keeping my carbs to a minimum, single digits actually, for each meal. I made lunch today, Neely's Roasted broccoli and tomatoes. I was surprised to learn that it has 20g of carbs. I ended up not finishing it and putting it away for tomorrow, maybe eat just a little bit from that. I…

Hypothyroid/diet/working out
I went to see my Endo today as I have been struggling to get the last 40 pounds off. I gave him a rundown of my diet, family history, etc. Even with oatmeal and 100 cal whole grain English muffin, he say this is "too many carbs that your body will hold onto" and he proceeded to suggest a hight protein almost no carb diet.…

Pizza/low carb diet
I am new to this low carb diet and the family is ordering my much loved pizza. Is it safe to just eat the toppings and not the bread? I don't want to ruin my good progress.

Chocolate shake/smoothie whithout banana?
Hi; looking for a good chocolate shake/smoothie without banana. I never could stomach it--I even tried again today; found a recipe that many raved over…All I tasted was banana and had to pour it down the sink:/ Any suggestions? Thanks:)

Nutrition labels…"Based on a 2,000 calorie diet"...
Being on My Fitness Pal certainly helps one learn about what they've been eating, that's for sure. I am finding it confusing, though, reading the part where it says "based on a 2, 000 calorie diet"…If my daily intake is 1,600, do I reduce the serving size? Pardon my ignorance, but I know I can always come here for good…

Insanty or T25 for weight loss?
Hi:) I am starting week 4 of T25 and so far have lost a few inches. No pounds; the scale goes up sometimes, then goes right back, but no decrease in poundage. I have heard wonderful things about Insanity==lots of success stories. I don't believe the results I see in the infomercials, though; I see lots of good light usage…

New here:)
Hi! It's so nice to have found a group for Hypothyroidism. 3 years ago, I was diagnosed with it, and 2.5 years ago, I decided to do something about the extra weight I was carrying. I am 75 pounds down----no easy feat:( It is at a snail's pace. To accurately describe it, I feel like a motor that is smoking and smoking, the…

Finally found a protein drink I can tolerate
After trying a few post-workout protein drinks, I like Myoplex because it has 42g of protein. The thing is, though it is low in carbs, fat and sugar, it is 600mg of Sodium. I have found that this and Morninstar Farms patties, which I love, puts me over my daily Sodium goal by a few; not alot, but seeing that number in red…

Body Fat monitor ideas for best one?
Thinking of ditching the scale and focusing on my inches lost and body fat. I have a Tanita scale, but I honestly dont' know how accurate it is since the numbers really vary---especially in fat percentage. One day I could be 19% and the next day be 30%. I have heard that calipers could be the best, also. Thanks for your…

T25 Alpha Phase
Hi!!! Just finished week 5 of Alpha. I lost inches each week except for week 4 and 5. Wondering if that's typical. Those who finished week 5, would like to know your input. Looking forward to the next phase and hoping the progress continues. What say you? Thanks for your feedback:)

Morningstar Farms...processed?
Hi!!! I have been doing a pretty good job of avoiding processed foods, per Doctor's orders. But.....lately I discovered Morninstar Farms and really enjoy it. Is it considered processed? Tryingn to follow a low carb and high protein regime... Is it healthy to consume each day? Would like your input; many thanks:)

The scale has stopped moving for awhile...
Just for kicks, I decided to see what all the fuss was about regarding this T25 workout by Shaun T. I just finished week 1; I already lost a few inches...How the heck is that even possible? What IS possible is that the scale has not moved in awhile, LOL. Losing inches again, but not the pounds...would love to see inches…

Just an observation....
I've taken Body Pump classes, and classes similar to them. I have taken Boot camps and other weight lifting classes...I have never had a buff instructor. They are all just average. It makes me feel discouraged. With all the classes they teach--and workout along with the classes, why don't these ladies look...how I want to…

fitter person burns less calories?
...What's your take on this? I have found that I am no longer burning those high numbers in spin class that I was burning 2 months ago when I started taking the class; for example; I burn alot less lately, so I am working even harder. I still don't burn close to what I used to; 100 to 150 calories less. I wear a HRM to…

The Drop 10 Workout, anyone?
I am on day 3 of this Drop 10 workout; they say you can lose 10 pounds if you do this series of workouts each day for 2 weeks; here is a link: http://workoutfitnessmotivation.com/image/37050318148 Not sure if this is really just a fad and dont know how it is possible to lose that much weight from this workout. It doesn't…

Hypothyroid, anyone?
Hi:) I tried joining a few groups on here pertaining to hypothyroidism, but they're not active/no one has posted in weeks/months. I figure I would just post here. This thyroid thing has been slowing me down and there are days when I want to give up; why bother. I look chubby in all my pictures though I am 77 pounds down…

Honey, sugar or sugar substitute
I am finding that honey always puts me over my sugar count on here:/ I figure it's good for me rather than putting white sugar in my tea. I tried Truvia, Stevia, Splenda and they have an odd taste, so I go back to honey every time. Honey and fruit makes me go over on the sugar situation; should I not be having these…

Very diligent, but....:(
I work out every day, burn between 400 and 600 calories a day----it used to be more, but for some reason, my bod doesn't want to do 800-1000 calories a day like I used to. One rest day, but I take a power walk just to get a little cardio in, and I track my foods on here. I lowered my calories to 1200 because I hit a…

Butter, light butter spread or butter substitute?
I've heard that butter substitutes aren't good for us, so I went with regular butter...It took a little while to see that I can save some calories and fat by using Land O Lakes light butter spread. Is this spread real butter or or an unhealthy substitute? Just want to do the right thing, but don't want to give up the…

Insanity or the new Livestrong thing?
Hi!!!! Thinking of getting the Insanity program to supplement my gym workouts. I do Zumba once a week, Spinning twice a week, Cardio Blast twice a week and Body Pump 3 days a week. On weekends I do landscaping. All my gym classes are an hour, landscaping takes me several hours. I feel like it's not enough--I am hypothyroid…

Burning less calories...

I have been taking Spinning on Mondays, Wed and Fridays--all one hour each, and Cardio Blast with weight training on Tuesdays and Thursdays, also an hour. On the weekends is landscaping. When I started at the gym, I was burning a good 1000…
