Best ways to run with an iPhone 6
Hi all, I use RunKeeper on my iPhone 6 to track my walking and running. When I had an iPhone 5 it was a little easier to carry around and put in an armband. The iPhone 6 is so much bigger. Plus, arm bands are really uncomfortable on me because I have big (soft) arms. I've looked at hip bands and "fanny packs" for runners…

Suggestions for higher protein/low carb/low cal options
Hi all! Anybody who is knowledgeable about this stuff and has a few moments to spare-- Could you take a look at what I ate today (5/11/2015) and perhaps offer suggestions for how I could have worked more protein into my day without having increased calories, carbs, or fat too much? Feel free to look at my diary from today,…

Good success story/inspirational books
Howdy everybody! I'm wondering what recommendations you all have for inspirational books. I have three in mind, two of which have been recommended by a friend who has lost a lot of weight: Half-Assed: A Weight-Loss Memoir by Jennette Fulda Secrets of a Former Fat Girl by Lisa Delaney And then one that I started and have…

24 lbs down and feeling great about my progress. With pics!
I didn't really have a specific goal weight for when I wanted to take/share before and during pictures, but yesterday a pair of slacks I bought a month ago were falling off of me at work, so I figured it was time. I don't know if a 24 lb weight loss warrants me writing about my history, but here it is anyway. Feel…

It's finally happening
Original post is in my blog, From Twenty-Nine On (http://fromtwentynineon.wordpress.com/2014/06/02/its-finally-happening/), but I wanted to share it here as well. I’m eating healthier, being more active, losing weight, and gaining confidence. I’ve lost about 19 pounds in a little less than 3 months, plus a few inches in my…

Sports bra suggestions
Any bigger-chested ladies out there have suggestions for sports bras? I am floored that I'm having so much trouble finding one that's my size. I'm around a 42DDD, and I think I'd like an underwire. I even looked on justmysize and ordered 2 bras, but I have very low confidence they'll fit me, since I ordered the largest on…

Way over on cholesterol
Today I've done pretty well with food, but I noticed I'm WAY over on my cholesterol. My daily goal is 300, but so far I've had 515, leaving me with going over by 215 (is it mg?). The only sources of cholesterol were 2 scrambled eggs with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese, and 4 thin slices of boar's head oven roasted turkey…

Tracking calories burned for boot camp
Hi all, I've been having trouble figuring out calories burned for a boot camp-type activity I do with my personal trainer. You can see one of my routines here: http://www.fitocracy.com/entry/9575901/ (These aren't all EXACTLY what I did-- "step class" was stepping on and off a foot-tall box for 45 seconds straight; this…

Small victory at the beginning of my journey
In mid-May I started an internship at a company that has an on-site gym and free personal trainers for employees. I'm 5'1" and gained a lot of weight in grad school (I will finish in December), so I jumped on the opportunity to get active again. I came back to MFP (after a very very very long hiatus) on Monday, and have…

Looking for fellow grad students
Hey everybody! I'm a grad student in the School of Informatics at Indiana University, and I'm looking to connect with other grad students (or anybody who recently completed a grad degree) who are trying to eat healthier, get active, and lose weight. I could use some inspiration!!

Strategy for buffets?
Does anybody have suggestions for how to "conquer" a lunch buffet without going TOO crazy? I mean, I want to indulge a little bit, but I don't want to go crazy. I also have a lot of trouble estimating calorie intake for buffets. Any thoughts and suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Teeny tiny NSV with social eating
So, this may not seem like that big of a deal, but I've done really well for the past 2 days with my eating. Last night I was at a friend's house, and she had egg rolls and then baked a whole bunch of chocolate chip cookies, and then brought out Klondike Oreo ice cream sandwiches. ACK! I ate a good dinner before I went…

Thanksgiving calorie calculator
Hi all, I came across this tool that may be helpful in estimating calories: http://walking.about.com/library/cal/blthanksgivingcalories.htm I don't think it's 100% accurate, depending on the foods you eat and the recipes you use. But instead of spending time today trying to count calories, I did a quick add and came to…

Consistently over on protein and sugar
I've noticed that I've been consistently over my daily allotment for protein and sugar. Is it bad to get too much protein? I know that too much sugar is not a good thing, but most of my sugar comes from fruit (mainly apples and bananas). My protein is usually over by about 25-30, and my sugar is usually over by 5-15. Does…

Warm, low-cal foods?
I was wondering if you have any suggestions for warm low-calorie foods or snacks. Seems like most of my small items (like the things I eat between meals) are cold (fruits, veggies, cheese, pudding, etc.). I did recently get Alexia sweet potato fries and Kroger brand turkey meatballs, both from the frozen section. They're…

Trouble on weekends
In general, I've been doing a great job of sticking to my calorie range during the week, but I've been basically negating my progress by eating way too many calories over the weekend. I think part of it is that I work an 8-5 job, and I'm good at tracking my calories while at work, and also good at taking a few minutes out…

Staying in range but eating empty calories
So, I've been a pretty bad eater today due to lack of time and preparation (and an office environment full of baked goods). So far I've had an everything bagel with butter, coffee with half and half, a pita with chicken breast and veggies, and a donut. That leaves me with about 200 cals left for the day (my daily goal is…

Feeling defeated about exercising
Hi all, I'm having a rough go of it in regards to exercising. Everything I try ends up really really hurting and feeling awful. And I know the difference between good hurt and bad hurt (I used to be really fit and was a dancer for a long time), and it's definitely the bad hurt. I've tried the following: - Couch to 5K -- I…

Eating addiction
Hi all, This is my first time posting in the forums here. I'm just wondering if anybody wants to share some "success stories" with dealing with food addiction. In the past few years I've definitely realized I'm a food addict. I think about it all the time; I'm always thinking about what I'm going to eat next. And even when…
