Teeny tiny NSV with social eating

So, this may not seem like that big of a deal, but I've done really well for the past 2 days with my eating. Last night I was at a friend's house, and she had egg rolls and then baked a whole bunch of chocolate chip cookies, and then brought out Klondike Oreo ice cream sandwiches. ACK! I ate a good dinner before I went there, and I brought a diet soda and a few 100 cal snack packs with me (Cheez-its and chocolate covered pretzels). It was incredibly difficult, since people kept going back into the kitchen and getting more cookies, but I stayed strong! And I even had enough cals built into my day that when I got home, I could have a Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich.

Then tonight I was in class, and the professor ordered pizza. It looked delicious, but again I ate a good dinner beforehand and had some low-cal snacks with me.

I think that to most people, this doesn't seem like a big deal, but for me it's a HUGE deal, since I have such little self control around food.

Anyway, that's about it. I'm loving MFP so far. I'm at a baseline, but all of your stories are really inspirational.

That's not tiny! That's fantastic. I have trouble with that, seems so much of being social is eating! Glad you enjoyed their company even if you didn't snack! Maybe next time you could offer to bring the snacks (or part of)...Skinny Cow for everyone! :P

I was weak on the free-pizza-at-school thing today, had a slice, but it managed to work into my calories just fine! (It's crunch time so I'm running low on groceries...)

Great job!!!! You sh ould be proud. It is NOT a tiny NSV to be able to have the self control to pass up food when you have already eaten. It's a BIG one!!!

Thanks for sharing and keep going strong!!!

Thanks! That's actually a great idea with offering to bring the snacks. I did that a few nights ago in my class. They often get pizza or baked goods or other unhealthy stuff, so the other night I brought fresh cut-up veggies with hummus. They were very well-received too! While grad students love pizza and other junk food, I think we're always appreciative of free HEALTHY food too!

And yeah, grocery shopping gets to be so difficult when school (or work) gets so busy. I've definitely had to rely on free food or delivery, and that always makes it near impossible to stay in my calorie count.
  • Oh, that's definitely a big deal!!! I'm very impressed, great job. :)

This is the biggest challenge most people face- social eating is so difficult to overcome - especially with family. friends or respected peers. Our society has put such a strong emphasis on it that it is a challenge to overcome. Keep up the good work.

Wow that is one of my biggest problems too.... I was in the same position the last 3 days. I am doing so well for 2 Weeks now and feel so much better. Thursday night we had a sales event in the shop I work and had a batch of little amazing cupcakes out for the customers and the team... I made sure I had a little calories left over just in case but in the end really didn't feel the need to have one. Until one of my colleagues bit into one and said she didn't like it as it was lemon flavor... ugh my favorite. And before i new it it was in my mouth )=
The next day we had some left over and they were offered to me again. But then I didn't have one which made me super proud (did have a .little sniff at them though ;)

Today friends came over to say good bye to me as I will be moving back to Germany again soon. As I am known for my (healthy) baking one of them brought "home made brownies in honor of me" (her words). I was almost gonna cry. How was I gonna get out of that one?
I ended up sharing a bowl with my boyfriend as a sort of cover. I had one fork full and he gobbled down the rest (with cream and ice cream and yet he is super lean..how unfair is that?!)
