More pressure because we're tall
Do any of you ever feel more pressure to be smaller because you're tall. Yes, we can get away with a few more pounds since they don't show up on us like they would on someone who's 5'1, but I think it's that I know I'm already tall, so I don't want to be tall AND wide. My husband is only an inch taller than me, and I feel…

Those against Advocare?
I know this can be a touchy subject with some very for it and others very against it, so please know I'm not trying to start a fight. My hubby and I now have 6 friends (3 couples) who have all tried advocare and have each lost quite a bit of weight. And these afent friends who are out of shape or typically jump om a diet…

Big breakfasts make me overeat
Does anyone else have this issue? Every time I eat a larger breakfast (350-400 cals) I end up overeating the rest of the day. I make sure the breakfast have lots of protein and fiber in it, but it still happens. You would think it would have the opposite effect on me, but when I start the day with a bigger meal I end up…

Personal Trainer told me not to count calories
So i went for a fitness assessment at my gym today and my trainer told me not to worry about counting calories. She said to make sure and get to 130 grams of protein/day (my stats are below for reference) and that my body will tell me what it needs. She said since I don't need to really lose weight, but rather drop body…

Logging weight lifting calories
Does anyone log weight lifting calories? MFP doesn't count any, but I know weight training raises your body's metabolism. So if I train hard (lifting til failure) for about 30 minutes, is it safe to log 100 calories burned?? Stats are below for ref 26 yo female 5'9 148 lbs 23% bf

Large framed women and weights
I went for an intial consultation at my gym 7 months ago and was told to hit the weights heavy and make weight training 70% of my workout each time. The other 30% could be cardio of my choice. Below are my beginning stats for reference. 5'9 148 23%BF 26 year old female My goal weight was 135, which is what I've been my…

Women Bulking with Weights
Okay, I'm at a loss. I followed my gym owner's advice to hit the weights really heavy (think large sets of squats with 50-60 lbs) and I've done nothing but bulk and get bigger. I've given it 4 months and have made sure to eat clean, whole foods netting in between 1400-1600 calories/day. I'm 5'8 150 lbs and 26 years old for…

Worst advice given to you by a "professional"
A trainer at my gym told me that to slim down 15 lbs that I needed to eat whatever I wanted and not worry about calories or portions but just to make sure I was getting plenty of protein. And then add weight lifting. Um, two months later I had gained eight lbs. yes, weight lifted was good but I was bulking when I really…

Whey Protein Questions
I'm thinking of using whey protein shakes as a means of hitting my daily protein requirements, but I have a few questions first.... Are there any sugar alcohols in whey protein? I have huge stomach issues when I consume sugar alcohols (even if it's just from sugar free gum) and would like to avoid those at all costs. Also,…

Sugar Alcohols
I've thought for years I must be allergic to dairy and/or gluten and low and behold it's sugar alcohols that were causing my problems the whole time!! I constantly chewed sugarless gum and downed protein bars (both products are chocked full of sugar alcohols) and I could never figure out why I was sick all the time :( Only…

How important are macros?
If you still within your calorie range, how important is it to hit your macro goals for each day? I know protein is important since I'm doing weight training, but it can be hard to get enough when I can't do protein shakes/bars since I don't do well with sugar alcohols. Whey protein also makes me sick.

Very few lbs to lose....what's your net?
I'm a 26 year old female who's 5'9 and weighs 148 with 23% body fat. I recently went to a nutritionist who tested my BMR and it turned out to be 1330 :( I have a desk job, so she estimated that on a typical day (without exercise) I probably burn 1800. So to lose 1 lbs/week I would need to net 1300, which seems low based on…

Running vs Walking
Is there a reason that I tend to lose weight faster with walking than with running even though I make sure and net the same calories either way? i.e. I still net 1400 whether I walk or run because I eat back my exercise calories accordingly (meaning I have to eat more back when I run than when I walk) I've been working out…

Not much to lose...how long til results?
I've been taking healthy eating habits and fitness much more seriously for the past 2 months and still have not seen results (in inches or the scale). My stats are below for reference. I realize I don't have much to lose so it's going to take much longer with me getting really serious to see results, but I'm wondering how…

How long to lower body fat % ?
I went for a fitness evaluation at my gym last week and was told to focus on lowering my body fat percentage rather than dropping pounds. Below are my stats.... Protein Plus Bar and the Poops
I just ate one of these and noticed on the back it said it could cause gastrointestinal discomfort and could have a laxative effect :( WTF?! I'm at work and can't really deal with that. Has anyone ever eaten these?? Are they bad to do that? HELP!

Eating when you aren't hungry
Do any of you eat even when you aren't hungry just to hit your calorie goals for the day? The really only happens to me when I do a rather large amount of exercise in a day and eat very healthy (fruit, salmon, etc). It only happens once in a blue moon, but once in a while I realize I have ~400 calories left for the day…

Diet harder than exercise
Just frustrated. Adding exercise into my daily routine has been quite easy for me to do, surprisingly. But it's the darn eating part that keeps me from reaching my goals. I have no problem making sure to run 3 miles a day, but then I can't turn down the ice cream after dinner :( I get lazy and quit logging my food and then…

Weights for Women
I just began adding weight lifting to my workouts (which I have loved), but I would like to know what is going to be most effective: heavier weights with lower reps, or lighter weights with higher reps. And what is considered "heavier weights"? Two 10 lb dumbells? Everything is getting firmer and tighter, but not smaller.…

Cellulite
Can you really ever get rid of it??? I've heard (and seen) women who can and can't. My cousin gained 20 lbs last year (along with quite a bit of cellulite), but then when she lost it the cellulite left too. But my best friend is a trainer at the gym, works out every day and eats VERY clean and she's got quite a bit of it.…

Intuitive Eating
Okay, so I know that intuitive eating is basically the opposite of the calorie counting services that are provided on this site, but I am wondering if any of you have ever tried it with any success or know someone who has. The reason I ask is that because (due to past eating disorders and issues with food), I am finding…

Accuracy of home scale body fat%
I recently gained about 5 lbs but am puzzled as to why my body fat % dropped so much in the process. I started out at 141 with 20.1% body fat and am now just 4 short weeks later 146 with 15.1% body fat. Could this even be possible? I know muscle weighs more than fat, but my clothes are all tighter, so I know I'm not…

HCG Injections
I'm sure there are plenty of convos out there on this, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask again. My sister just went to the doctor to begin the 21 day regimen of the HCG diet and injections. I'm a bit skeptical, but her best friend lost 22 lbs doing the same thing. I know most people out there (probably including me)…

low RMR?
I just went to a clinical dietician to get my RMR and body fat % done. I'm 5'8 with a large frame and currently weight 139. They said my body fat percentage was 18.8% and that my RMR was ONLY 1300 CALORIES!!! ahh! Is 1300 calories normal for someone my age (25) and height? Also, does RMR take into account my normal daily…

Running increasing appetite
Does anyone else have a problem with this? I'd like to add running to my regular workout routine, but every time I do my appetite goes through the roof and I end up *gaining* weight because all I want to do is eat. But if I walk or do something less intense then I don't have as much of an issue. Thoughts?

Bigger Breakfast, Bigger Appetite?
I know that breakfast is supposedly the most important meal of the day, and that those who eat breakfast tend to live healthier lives and make better food choices. HOWEVER, it seems that every time I eat a large breakfast (albeit it's a very healthy breakfast such as oatmeal with fruit), I want to eat more throughout the…

Eating Exercise Calories
I'm sure this question has been asked before, but do you all eat ALL of your exercise calories? I've been doing that but have only lost about a pound over 3 weeks. I'm watching my sodium, fat, water and having been logging everything I put in my mouth...even down to a stick of gum. I've been switching things up at the gym…
