Cool Weight Graphs
I have been maintaining graphs of my weight since I started in MFP in December 2010. If there was any group that would find this to be interesting, I thought it would be this one. Below is a graph of all my data from beginning to now: In 2017, I got even more scientific, corresponding the slope of my trend line to my net…

Why hasn't MFP improved?
I joined MFP in December 2010 or January 2011 to help me lose weight before my wedding. I lost it all, then gained it back and then some when I did my MBA while working, so I've come back to make my way back down. Back in 2011, I was a big forum junkie like I am now, and what is striking to me is that the threads,…

What are the mental hurdles you overcame?
One of the things that makes me cringe on this message board is when I see people make these absolute statements about their ability to have moderated healthy habits that are sustainable for a lifetime. A big part of the reason is that I know that these artificially created mental hurdles are what caused me to gain so much…

Weight loss rate as a function of body fat
I've seen a lot of people post here different rules of thumb for weight loss rate as a function of healthy weight, BMI, or body fat percentage. Are there any resources on this or is it just something you go on by feel? From my experience, I've typically gone by feel. As my TDEE goes down as I lose weight, I instinctively…

Quality Affordable Running Shoes
I'm in the market for new running shoes, but my budget is in a tough situation due to some other factors. I'm not training for a marathon or anything, I just try to do 3 miles every other day as a walk/run around my neighborhood. I don't do trail running, either. I need shoes for wide feet, which has been a struggle with a…

On my struggle with transitions and lessons learned
Back in December 2010, I began trying to lose weight with the help of MyFitnessPal. My wedding was going to be in about 7 months and I wanted to be the best version of myself for it. Before then, exercising and diet (or lack thereof) was primarily the result of competing in sports. I was an elite wrestler in high school…

Healthy/Calorie-dense foods...
On days I play basketball, I'm really struggling to get all my calories in. I get extremely full and can't even imagine eating more. Can anybody give me suggestions of healthy foods that are also calorie-dense? So much healthy food is filling and not calorie-dense. For example, I would have to eat for hours to eat 2,400 of…

Don't believe in "Starvation Mode"?
I understand that to many the concept of eating your exercise calories and "Starvation Mode" can seem counter-intuitive or mythical, but I would urge you to take some time, go "back in time" and start reading threads where people have been hitting a plateau. These people are always close to their goal weight. They always…

Why I would weigh in every day...
IF you don't have an emotional hangup on the scale. I know some people really let the numbers on the scale effect their emotions and their mood. I really don't, honestly. To me, it's just another number. I was in wrestling for a long time, so I know how trivial a number like weight is and how easily influenced it is by how…

An interesting way to check your weight loss
Since I have been tracking my weight loss, I have been measuring my weight, body fat, and several other body measurements. Recently, I got the urge to graph my weight and my body fat to see how I was doing. I pulled the data from MFP by going to "Edit Previous Entries" and copying and pasting out all the numbers. This is…

RunKeeper
Does anybody use RunKeeper to track their runs? I do, but I don't have any friends on that website. I've just gotten going with running outside. My profile name is "shaunshaikh"

Packing a lunch
I'm having trouble packing a lunch (snacks, too) that has enough calories and isn't either very high in sodium or just filled with carbs/sugars and fats. I like to have lean protein in every meal, but sandwich meat is just so freaking full of sodium. Any ideas? Or do I just have to eat leftovers every day for lunch? Not…

HRM Chest Strap while swimming
Has anybody gotten their HRM (with the chest strap) to work properly while swimming? I can only get readings while standing still and the strap always slides down when I push off the wall. I'd appreciate any tips or perhaps any online calculators to approximate calories burned with height, weight, gender, vo2max, etc.

Random Thoughts of the Day
1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Sodium doesn't affect FAT loss. Large amounts of sodium in your diet can cause you to retain water and it can also cause issues for people with blood pressure problems. But, if you're trying to lose FAT and you don't have a blood pressure issue, you don't really NEED to stress about sodium.…

Lots of NSV's today and yesterday
Wow, I am just feeling full of positivity right now. Today, I am comfortably fitting into 33" waist pants. i was 36" in January snuggly. Only 2 or 3 weeks ago I tried these pants and the buttons still had about 1-2 inches to go before they could be buttoned. Man, that is such a huge step for me. Shopping for 36" pants last…

Believe in yourself!!
While the majority of the people here are on this website are here to fix a physical problem (being overweight), it seems to me that the root cause for too many people is mental. While I don't agree with all of the production on the show the Biggest Loser, one thing that I do enjoy is that they try to figure out what made…

recording calories on bad days
Hey guys! I started a few weeks ago, and have been extremely diligent about logging everything. the only time I didnt log, was the super bowl, because it was just too difficult to remember everything and quantify it. Well I just got a friend at work to join, and I don't think she is completely into it yet. She had a "bad"…

Golf -- What's your call
Went to play golf this weekend, planned to walk but this particular course forces you to ride the cart because of how far the holes are spaced. So, I wore my HRM anyways to track calories burned. Over 4 hours, I burned 750 calories. However, when you consider that in an average sedentary hour I burn ~90 calories, should I…
