Random Thoughts of the Day

1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Sodium doesn't affect FAT loss. Large amounts of sodium in your diet can cause you to retain water and it can also cause issues for people with blood pressure problems. But, if you're trying to lose FAT and you don't have a blood pressure issue, you don't really NEED to stress about sodium. You just need to understand that fluctuations of the scale are due to water weight. I do try to watch my sodium, but I realize I'm not sabotaging my fat loss by having a high sodium day like I've seen some people suggest lately. I could be wrong though.
2. Just because you're on a diet doesn't mean you have to eat fat-free everything. Body builders who shoot for ultra-low body fat percentages eat 30% of their daily caloric intake as fat. Obviously, there are good fats and bad fats and we shouldn't go off and eat fried food for 3 meals a day. I'm just saying, don't treat fat in your diet like it's arsenic.
3. I've been reading this forum for a couple months now and it seems like there's a sudden wave of new topics with people wondering why they haven't lost weight in a week of diet/exercise. I do sympathize with starting a new lifestyle and feeling like youre moving backwards, but then again if you would just read a few threads on the message board before posting, you'd generally see there's a lot of great advice from great posters. It just gets watered down from so many of the new topics asking the same thing.
4. Just because you've gained 2, 3, 4 pounds in a day or a week doesn't mean you've gained 2, 3, 4 pounds of FAT. Do you realize how much you would have to eat to gain that much weight in fat in that short of a time frame? Oh yeah, and you DEFINITELY haven't gained 2, 3, 4 pounds of muscle in that time frame. You might have some extra water in your muscles related to glycogen after an intense/new workout, but building muscle is EXTREMELY hard and requires a calorie surplus under most conditions.
5. I guess a lot of this just boils down to one annoyance -- we're not after weight loss here. Weight is just one measurement. We're after fat loss and improving our body composition. Why are we (collectively) getting so worked up about WEIGHT when it's such a poor measurement of our fat loss? I mean... the amount of crap in your colon has no effect on your fat loss, so why are there 3 threads a day about colon cleanses???
If you want to prove to yourself that weight is a meaningless number, I ask you to do the following challenges:
1. Weigh yourself right before you go to sleep.
2. Weigh yourself right after you wake up.
Tada! You lost a 1-2 pounds and all you had to do was sleep! Man, who knew weight loss was so easy!
1. Weigh yourself before a workout
2. Wear sweats and workout for as long as you can and sweat as much as you can.
Tada! You lost 1-4 pounds in one workout.
1. Weigh yourself
2. Drink a 32 oz water/gatorade.
Whoops! You gained 2 pounds! That water you're drinking is really putting on the pounds! Better not drink water anymore!
Sorry, this post was sarcastic and disorganized. Just needed a distraction from work.

I enjoyed it haha
I watch my sodium because my family has a history of heart/health issues, not just because of water.
I drink 12-16 or more glasses a day and it makes me feel wonderful. Yes, I still hold onto water weight and I love seeing how much I drop during a cardio session. Just last week I dropped 5 pounds of water in one hour. How my jeans, clothes and what have you is more important to me than the number on the scale.0 -
