need help with finding "creative" food entries
My dietitian is currently reading my food diary, since I needed some adult supervision with all my plateaus. She sends me a "good job" or similar comment each day. I'm happy for the help. She's a really fun person and we have a good time in my appointments. She's got a good sense of humor, so I was thinking she needed a…

Box Jump mind games
One of my mini fitness goals is to box jump the 18" box at my gym. I'm 5'2" so it comes up to the top of my knees. My trainer had me try the 12" one a few months ago, I chickened out, got mad at myself and went and did it the next day. Crossed that one off the list. The next level we have is the 18 inch. Tried it with the…

How do you stop being too competitive with yourself?
I tend to be too competitive with myself and am trying to find ways to get my brain to stop and just enjoy what I'm now doing (used to be morbidly obese, now finding out how much I like to move and see what this new body can do) I'm running in a four mile race the day after tomorrow. I call myself a casual runner, I like…

Jump ropes - brands, type to buy?
Hi, I searched through some of the jump rope topics, but they mostly seem to be challenges or about jump roping in general. I took a HIIT class yesterday and one of the stations involved jumping rope. I thought it would suck, I've always felt like jumping of any kind isn't for me at my age, and having been morbidly obese.…

Question for those who lift and run
Hi, I'm trying to get back into a routine of heavy lifting a few times a week. My work schedule is 7P-7A three times a week, so my weeks are always different. I'm also trying to get more out of the cardio mindset, work on my lifting and find a good balance. I walk and run outside (great mental therapy as well as physical).…

Protein powder recommendations?
Hi, I'm a 51 year old female with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I've been on this weight loss journey for and am down 92 lbs with another 20-32 to go (depending on which goal I use). I saw a registered dietician a few days ago for some help with some minor issues and one of her suggestions was to stop using products with…

Canned soups - weigh or measure? Opinions please
Is it more accurate to weigh soup or measure it? I'm specifically referencing Progresso soups here. The can shows a cup as a serving and "about two" servings per can, but also gives the serving size in grams, usually around 240, which, when I weigh it on the scale, gives the can approximately 1.25 servings. I know the…

Pull up bar purchase
I'm interested in what pull up bars people would recommend buying. I looked back at some older threads but nothing seemed to jump out at me. I'd love to be able to do one - it's one of my New Year's goals for this year. I'm currently working on fat loss and getting fit, I found a love for TRX classes and doing the inverted…

NSV at The Gap
Now that the holidays are over and the malls are back to normal, I took myself shopping. Not something I usually do, I'm the one who orders online and has no clue to the number size I now wear after losing 83 lbs. It was a bit overwhelming at first, I hit a few department stores, but seeing that the sizes on the hangers…

75 lbs gone. So far.
The picture on the left is me, two years ago this month, approximately two months before I started on MFP and making the commitment to do this. The one on the right is from today, 75.2 lbs later. It's a work in progress, I'm still in the "obese" category, with just under ten pounds to go to be "overweight." That's my next…

Looking for good earbuds
Hi, I'm looking to find earbuds with the piece that goes around the ear. Conventional ones never stay in my ears even with walking. I've been using Yurbuds, which I like, but that part, or the part that fits in the ear, keep falling off. I don't see anywhere to replace just the parts I've lost, so I"ve had to buy several…

any words of wisdom before my first 5K?
I'm running my first 5K this Saturday - my subdivision is sponsoring one, so it won't be huge crowds. I did the C25K program in it's entirety, much to my continued amazement. I've run the distance twice, both just over 46 minutes. For me, hauling around a lot of weight, it's more for the endurance and time over the speed.…

T-25 question
I've seen the T-25 commercials countless times and am thinking of ordering. What I'm curious about - how much space do you need to do these workouts? The tv that has the DVD player is in a loft space that isn't very big. I've done Jillian Michael's 30 day Shred in it, off to the side. My desktop computer is in my bedroom…

Fiftieth birthday and 52 lbs gone
I turned 50 today. I've been on MFP since January 2013. I have a lot to lose, last year's 6 month plateau seems to have broken. I hit a few milestones this past month, Onderland and a 50 lb loss. I'm finally buying some smaller sized, more form fitting clothes as I'm finally seeing the difference. I still don't see it in…

Weight gain after consistent losses
Hi, While I love you guys and all you do, I was hoping not to ever need to make a post, but here it is. Provide your stats (height/weight/age/bodyfat% if you know it/etc) I'm 49 yo, 5' 2" and currently 216.2. I started at 248. My weight before the stall got to 213.4, then hovered in the 215 range until the past few days.…

One year, forty pounds and Albert Einstein
Hoping this pic shows up, I'm not techy. I just got back from a spa/resort that I've been to several times (okay, five). Last year I took a pic of me with the Albert Einstein statue and did the same this year, the same week, so the pics are probably within a day or two of being a year apart. I was hoping to see more of a…

signed up for a 5K
I graduated from the program a few weeks ago, I've been running 30 mins a few times a week, hitting only 2 miles. Last week I finally went for 3.1. Took me 46:15. Did it again a few days ago, a few seconds faster. Yesterday at the gym in my subdivision, there was a sign for a C25K clinic and a 5K race on Sept 21st. I was…

Outside vs indoor track
Me the non-runner started the C25K program on the treadmill. Did a run a week outside in the beginning and wanted to die. Somewhere around week 4 that changed and I ran the rest of the program outdoors. I don't seem to be able to do it on the treadmill. With the disgustingly humid weather and the non-likeable idea of…

Question re Zenlabs app and W5D3
... does the perky woman count down the 20 minutes run any more than the usual "you're halfway there" and "one minute left?" I've been good about not looking at the timer but a few times in the shorter runs I started to think I may have shut the app off because it seemed to take too long. I'm thinking I'll be doing this…

Treadmill, the great outdoors or both?
I'm new to the C25K program, did W2D2 today. New to exercise in general :ohwell: I'm carrying a lot of extra weight and finding my biggest issue to be shin pain rather than the cardio part. I got new running shoes yesterday, was properly fitted and they watched me run/walk in them. I also have compression shin sleeves. The…

What's more accurate? Calculating TDEE or Fitbit numbers
I just hit the 30 lb loss mark so I"m trying to update numbers. Last week I got a Fitbit Flex, wore it continuously. It gives you the calories you burned in each 24 hour period. Mine ranged from 1965 - 2188 with the seven day average being 2072. A 20% deficit would put my TDEE at 1658. I also just tried the formula Sara…

NSV Just severly obese :-)
Hit the 30 lb mark this morning. This puts my BMI at 39.8. In a lot of the charts, they divide the obese category into morbid and severe. I just dropped to severe. It's funny to chuckle at being severely obese, but I'll take NSVs wherever I can find them.

First time
I got my trainer to show me the fun of the squat rack today. I might be hooked. I did 100 lbs on the dead lifts and squats and 75 on the bench press. I was really happy and enjoyed it. Apparently my doing the Squat Challenge on the forums in my living room last month paid off, the trainer said I had good form. It's…

shin pain
I finished week one today. I did the first two days on the treadmill and went around the lake today. Definitely harder on ground that doesn't move. Surprisingly to me, the cardio isn't as hard as I thought it would be, but the pain in my shins is the obstacle. I've definitely got a lot to lose and I'm sure the excess…

Week One, Day One
Joined this group a while ago, had the app on my phone a while ago and FINALLY started it today. I had a session with my trainer, we worked on arms, then I jumped on the treadmill and just went for it. I'm not a runner, I'm not very active and I've got a lot of weight to lose. I've been walking outside and doing a couple…

dumb measurement question
I'm trying to do monthly measurements so I'm not obsessed with the scale and I'm curious ... I'm losing weight, about 6 lbs/month and doing strength training with a trainer and on my own, nothing too heavy yet, but I do see a difference - I can actually feel biceps. My question - should the inches on my arms be going up or…

NSV
First the SV part - finally lost some weight after 16 days. NSV - I work in a hospital and wear scrubs. I hate them being tight to begin with so I wear a 3X instead of my usual 2X. We have new ones that haven't been washed 1000 times so they're a bit big. I went to my normal 2X and they're comfy. After finally breaking…

Still here, Level three, day nine. Can't wait to be done tomorrow and check measurements Monday
