Stength training.
Bear with me here while I try to explain. Today was my heaving lifting day. I set my Vivoactive to inside walk. I did my strength training. I also wore my HRM during this time. It was logged as 300 calories. Now, a few years ago, I used to wear a Bodymedia and a HRM. During this time, I found it was more accurate to take…

How do you know when you're training too hard?
When I've been doing cardio I usually jog (slow pace) a 5k. However, my heart rate stays about 165. If it hits 170, I slow to a walk and recover. This is apparently all wrong. It appears that I should be targeting 123-156 bpm on my cardio. The problem is that I don't feel like I'm doing a whole lot when I do that. I…

Leaving group
On January 20th, I will be two years post-partum with my son. Here's what I learned: I had an emergency C-section with him. I did not realize that even two years after the fact, that I would sometimes still itch, have tenderness, numbness and sometimes a sharp pain at the incision area. I've learned to accept it now and I…

Workout Bottoms...
I have a huge butt. I have some workout pants but I need some that fit better. I have to wear capris because I'm short too and if I get pants they are always too long and I don't want to sew them. I would like to have some, that don't gap out at the waist, won't slide down when I'm running or doing squats. I would like…

Is it still considered jogging...
I'm doing the couch to 5k program. I'm on week 4 (I have been for a couple of weeks). Today I didn't go to the gym but I did do it outside. I didn't realize how jogging outside was so much harder than on a treadmill. I'm also pushing a jogging stroller with my two year old in it. Anyway, I have an app on my Droid that…

Well, here I am...
It's almost 12 months since I had my baby and I'm just now getting back into the groove. I sure didn't realize that it would take so long. Of course, now that I think back, when I first got into working out my daughter was 19 months old. I didn't have to worry about her not walking, talking or having to pack bottles. I…

working out while having a cold
Actually, I can't tell if it's a cold or allergies. I know I feel pretty crappy, but I have this need to force myself to the gym since I've not been for 5 days. Do you go even if you're not feeling it (as in you're feeling sick, not just lazy)?

Why is this?
What causes the afterburn effect? I did a walk/run up for approximately 30 minutes. I use my HRM as my guide on when to cool down. My HR would go up to 165 then I allow it to get in the 120's before I run again. I'm not sprinting, just jogging. I noticed that my heart rate is still about 80 bpm. I've been at the computer…

C-section pain after exercise
I'm 6 1/2 months postpartum from an emergency C-section. I find that during ovulation and right before my period I'm very tender on the inside where my c-section cut was. I also find that I have very light spotting during these times. This happens when I do harder workouts. Has anyone experienced this before? Does this…

lowering blood pressure
We need to start eating better. My husband is getting high blood pressure and has FINALLY realized that he needs to take care of himself. I have purchased and read the Eat Clean Family and Kids. I'm wondering is there any other books, cookbooks or websites that can help us with lowering sodium and cholesterol? He is…

Exercise after C-Section
I'm 38 weeks pregnant. I was able to continue working out until 29 weeks pregnant. I've got Gestational Diabetes and my baby is breech. I've been trying to get him to turn, but so far unsuccessful. I will probably end up scheduled for a C-Section next week or the week after. I'm not a bodybuilder by any means. So I'm not…

For those who've done the Warrior Dash
Was your whole race uphill and did it have the overwhelming stench of poop? Or was that something unique to Ohio?

What do to with that greek yogurt...
I always see posts about how people don't know what to do with greek yogurt or they just don't like it. I didn't like it so much either when I was trying to eat it with fruit. However, I've started using it in place of mayo, miracle whip and sour cream. To me, it tastes better when used like that. How do you like to use…

Warrior Dash
Has anyone done it? If so, what can be expected and are the obstacles the same?

Protein powder in coffee?
I posted this on a bodybuilding website as well, but I thought I would get answers from here as well. I've recently got a Kuerig and have been experimenting. I decided to try making a mocha with 6oz. of coffee 2 oz. of skim milk and 1 scoop of Syntha-6 chocolate powder. It tasted pretty good but I learned the shaker is not…

Have you Kinected yet?
We just got a Kinect for the Xbox 360 today. Hopefully, they'll get more games. We got a dance game, which is pretty good and has more music than Just Dance for the Wii, a boxing game but it's only one player, the Kinectimals for the 2 year old (she doesn't like the fairy on it.) and the Adventures game. That one is pretty…

Obstacle Courses in Ohio
Does anyone know of any public obstacle courses in or near Dayton, Ohio? I'm wanting to do a Warrior Dash next year and I think it would be beneficial to go on an obstacle course. But I can't seem to find one.

knee pain, squats and lunges
I'm starting a new strength training program for winter. I've looked at a lot of them and decided to go with The New Rules of Lifting for Women. The problem I'm having with this and all other programs is that I'm having a terrible time with squats and lunges. My right knee is hurting just on the upper inside of the knee…

1 year
I've been going to my gym for 1 year now. In that year, I've lost 33 lbs. and 14 inches overall. I was a size 18 and now I'm a good size 14 (sometimes I get lucky and it's a 12). I can jog for 2 miles, I never thought I would see that day. I could almost bench press my 23 year old niece. My cholesterol is down, my blood…

a funny thing has happened.
I've been stuck at around the 170 (give or take a couple of pounds) mark for 3 months. I was constantly hungry (mind you, that I eat all of my exercise calories), so I decided to raise my calorie intake to maintenance. I'm raising it because I'm starting New Rules of Lifting for Women and it was recommended to eat at or…

lose fat or gain muscle, my delimma
Well, I'm apparently at a point that I'm going to have to choose to either build muscle or lose fat. I've had my calories set so my base is 1200 calories. But theoretically, if I was to stay at 1200 all the time it would be 1.2 lbs per week. Here's my problem. I always always always go over my calories by 200-400. Weight…

Body hair
I post on a body building website as well. I understand why bodybuilders remove thier hair, but it seems like every Tom, **** and Harry removes thier body hair once they get in shape. I don't quite understand it. It does make me laugh though, like you get muscles and your hair falls out. So I'm pleading men, unless you…

HRM suggestions
I'm in the market for a new HRM. I currently have a Sportline with a chest strap that I got from Wal-mart. This is the second one I've had of this brand and after a month or two, it just craps out. It doesn't get an accurate read from the chest strap, so I'm going to return this one and try to find a better one. My…
