Heart rate
Sorry, I am on a roll this evening! For those who have HRMs, what are your resting and max heart rates? My resting is 45 bpm, max not sure, I haven't done a test yet. My husband is a little freaked out by my resting HR. He was expecting it to be in the 60s.

Protein powder
What protein powder do you like best? I don't generally add protein, but occasionally after a hard workout I make shakes with fruit, skim milk and protein powder. At the moment I am using Hemp protein, but I have seen whey and soy for sale too. I chose hemp because although vegetarian, not vegan, I would rather have…

Calculating BMR
Can your calculate your BMR from your resting heart rate? If so, how?

Calories burned
I finally got a HRM yesterday and did my first run with it this morning. I was extremely put out to discover in 55 mins of running at quite a pace I burned 350 cals. MFP put me at about 600 for that. I don't see how some people manage to burn thousands of cals doing stuff that doesn't sound particularly strenuous, and I…

Acai?
Anyone tried it? I have just picked some up in a health food store as it was reduced, and wondered if anyone here has taken it. I know there are a lot of scams surrounding it, but from what I can tell from independent articles it is very high in fibre, and antioxidants as well as being a source of omega oils. Are the…

Calling all runners!
I have had terrible runner's feet for months now, so today I treated myself to a fish pedicure. Eeeek! I am not at all squeamish normally, but even I was a bit freaked out when they started sucking at my feet. In fact I screamed like a girl and pulled my feet out of the water, but we'll gloss over that...... Anyway, my…

Fruit vs cake
Why are there several threads a day from people worrying about eating fruit and the sugar, when there are several more a day for cake recipes and they usually get 3 pages of "YAY!" responses? Surely there is no reality in which cake is better for you than fruit. No matter what the cake, or what the fruit.

Trampolining
How would you log trampolining? There's no listing on here.

Smoothies/shakes
Are they a waste of calories? I tend to try to only drink water or tea (usually green or peppermint) so I don't add any liquid calories that don't fill me up. Or can you have a smoothie and feel like you've had a whole meal, in which case, what is the benefit of having that meal in liquid form?

Erratic lifestyle
Does anyone else have a really erratic lifestyle that makes anything like a challenge or training program very difficult to implement? I am really fixed in around the children's term times, so the only time I get free in the week are 3 mornings, 2 of which I exercise, and I usually try to go for a run on Saturday morning,…

Would you have surgery?
I am amazed how many people on here suggest tummy tucks to get rid of stretched post baby skin. I would never in a million years have unnecessary/non-essential surgery involving a general anaesthetic. I had one once to have my appendix out, and never again! Also I don't like the idea of changing my natural body, no matter…

Weights
I am not a member of a gym, and don't have the time to go. I do a lot of cardio (mostly running), but I think I need to add some more weights into my regime. I do a circuits class which includes some weights a couple of times a week, but am having a 3 week break from that at the moment. What weight training can I do at…

New tactic
I weighed myself this morning, first time in a month, and despite having been not eating much due to a bug, and having been training for my race in 3 weeks, I have only dropped 1lb. Which was to be expected really, as I haven't lost any inches either, though people say I look thinner. I know my exercise is ok. I think my…

Shifting the Mummy tummy
I am pretty happy with how I look, most of me is fine these days, but I still have a huge amount of loose skin and flab over my abdomen post children (and lovely stretchmarks to complete the look). I do 3 classes a week which each contain 15 mins each of core work - planks and crunches, as well as circuits which have some…

Another husband Grrr
Feb - husband "you are getting too thin." March - husband "you still have some back fat, you could lose some more." me "I thought you said I was getting too thin" husband "that was a joke" Today - "Your legs are getting too thin, you have a gap at the top, it's creepy." Can't. Win.

Jeans NSV
After my rather miserable posts about plateauing recently........ I really needed some new jeans as all of my old size 30s were falling off me. I bid on a size 27 on ebay (we are talking waist size here, so a size 30 is a UK 12, a 27 is 8/10), rather optimistically. They arrived today and fit perfectly. They could have…

Fat fitness instructors
What do you think? Would you be ok with having a fitness instructor who was significantly overweight? What about PE teachers in schools? Should they be demonstrating what they teach, or is it a case of do what I say, not what I do? What about a personal trainer? Or do you want your fitness instructor to have a body you…

Thinner = happier?
Apparently one of the reasons given for why they started dieting by almost every anorexic is that thin people seem to be happier, so if someone is upset with life it is easy to think it'll be improved by losing weight. Do you think this is true? Are thinner people happier? Or is it just a perception spread about by…

Paleo and vegetarian
Does anyone have any good vegetarian recipe ideas that fit with the paleo philosophy?

Why do some people find it so easy to get/be thin?
And others have to bust a gut just to be normal and will never be skinny? Even if they eat all the right things and exercise like a demon?

A bit bleurgh
I know I have lost some weight (10 or 11 lbs and 3 inches off my waist), and people have commented, but I am still 25lbs heavier than I was when I got married, which is my benchmark. I know I am 12 years older now, and have had two babies and people's bodies change, but still, I feel fat (I know I am a healthy weight, but…

24 hours without caffeine
I just did this (unintentionally - we've been out all day and I haven't had the chance to get any tea), and that is NOT an experience I am going to repeat any time soon. WHY would anyone do that to themselves? I have the most thumping headache, and the patience of a snapping turtle on a bad day.

Sweet potato chips
Anyone got a recipe?

Swimming
I hate it, absolutely hate it. I hate public pools, I hate the clammy yet freezing dressing rooms, I hate the stray hairs and congealed talc on the floor. I hate the feeling of gulping in water instead of air, I hate being splashed in the face as I'm going along. I hate the feeling of water on my face or in my hair, I hate…

Konjac
I just made miso with konjac cubes in and feel really weird now, like it's all sitting there inside me. Does it ever disinegrate, or am I stuck with it forever? *disclaimer, this is hopefully a rhetorical question.

Milk question
How is it that in the listings here fat free organic milk has 100 cals a cup, whereas apparently full fat (4%) milk has only 90 cals a cup? Also do you prefer full fat, semi, or skim milk? I can't decide as skim has more sugar, but less fat. Now the calorie thing has thrown me.

Do you go out much?
I used to be quite a party girl before having children, but these days I go out maybe 4 times a year, if that, and 2 of those are just out for a meal with my husband. Nor do I work as I still have a 3 year old at home. No prizes for guessing why I spend so much time on here! Thanks goodness for running! It keeps me sane.…

Muscle growth
How fast do muscles grow? I'm sure I have read on here that it's not that fast. How long does it take to see changes?

Grrr husband
He has a turbo trainer (set up with his bike, not mine), and a rowing machine in the annex, but I can't have a running machine because I should just go and do it outside, apparently. Even when it's raining, or dark, or icy. Grrrrrrr.

Jamie's School dinners
I am just watching this (the US version - I saw a few of the UK ones years ago), and am really horrified about the kind of food those children are served. What do you think of your children's school food? Is it setting them up for a lifetime of bad food habits?
