Acai?

Anyone tried it? I have just picked some up in a health food store as it was reduced, and wondered if anyone here has taken it. I know there are a lot of scams surrounding it, but from what I can tell from independent articles it is very high in fibre, and antioxidants as well as being a source of omega oils.

Are the weight loss stories a myth, or does it do that too?

Açaí is very common in Rio (where I'm from), it's eaten as freezing cold paste — almost a sorbet — usually with granola. It's really nice in a hot day!
It was quite surprising to me seeing it advertised as an aid for weight loss because as far as berries go, from what i know, it's really, really high on calories. Surfers love it, it's probably a good post-sport food.

I'd love to know more about it being used for weight loss, as I'm visiting my family in Rio soon and would love excuses to eat açaí!

I have had the frozen sludge stuff in Italy. I loved it. I think it's really high in fibre so it's a good colon cleanse thing. Anyway, I'm on day 2 now, so will report back in a week!

I bought the Sambazon Acai Juice at the store not for weight loss purposed but as a great antioxidant. It was great! I had to watch my servings though because it had a lot of sugar. I never tried it in any other form.

Here's the breakdown on Acai and weight loss:

    Acai is an antioxidant.
Antioxidants allow our bodies to fight off free radicals (other organisms that are deformed and attack our healthy cells in our bodies) which, in turn, give us a healthier body that is more able to breathe, pump blood, fight viruses/bacteria, absorb nutrients, ect.
The more antioxidants you have in your body, the more able your body is to recover from any kind of threat. (Did I mention that processed food is a threat to your body's intestinal tract? We face free radicals everyday.)
A healthier body has a higher metabolism, works more efficiently, and feels better. You will feel less tired, sick, fatigued, dizzy, ect.
Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, grapes, acai, and tomatoes actually are antioxidants as well.
So, acai is a precursor to a body that is more able/desiring to lose weight and feel better.
