Haven't heard from my friends in Colorado yet.
Only learned in the last few hours about what happened last night at the movies in Lakewood. I haven't been able to confirm or deny my friends' safety. I likely know some of the victims. Kind of numb sitting here hoping for the best, thinking gentle thoughts for the families of the slain. :(

Contemplative Neuroscience
There's quite a bit of research going on by renowned neuroscientists into Social Anxiety Disorders, Depression, etc. I am really excited that the friends/geeks I know who suffer from such are getting a science-based cure that is easy, cost affective (free) and has such a high return on investment.…

Fireworks - invasion at 3 am?
Every year around the Fourth, the fireworks start. Illegal, lit by children lacking in supervision and sense but so far we've been only mildly inconvenienced, until now. I am not the get up at 3 am or stay up till 3 am type of gal. They were so close, I thought someone had sent a bottle rocket through my closed window.…

Calling all geeks, subspecies 'girrrl': Got a few questions for you... My Coach gave me an assignment ---> Define the ecosystem of the Geek Girl. Luke's Home Restored
Ezra Klein comes out as a Geek. Luke's home on Tatooine, or at least the set used to film it in Tunisia, has been restored by a group of fans headed by a Geek from Belgium. One more thing to add to my love of Geeks and their fan exploits, the Lars homestead has been saved. For more details, see TRMS - Best New Thing in the…

FCLO
My daughter and I just uploaded 2 consumer review videos to YouTube from her first taste of Green Pasture, Blue Ice, FCLO. I can't believe how much she liked it. For other moms thinking about going 100% Paleo with your offspring, sure is working for us! This is one of the few things I've heard about around Paleo/Primal…

Invalid to Polar Bear to Svelte
How much real estate has your brain lost to fear? Cutting edge neuroscience suggests that each cut, bump, bruise, broken heart and disappointment act as redirectors of brain cell allocation/use. That pain in your back, limb, neck or big toe might not be what you think. It may be your brain sending a false alarm that needs…

September brought our first Whole 30 challenge, thanks to Grokette. I'd like to do it again now that I have learned from the obstacles I overcame in September. Anyone game? Grain and Gluten Free Gingerbread Men
Feeling a little down that just a few Gluten Free pretzels and shortbreads (out of a box from Walmart, my mom - daughter's grandmother bought them to make sure she didn't feel left out at Thanksgiving) were enough to wreck havoc on my daughter's immune system. She's became ill on the way home from our beautiful…

Nourishing myself today
Most of weight loss/fitness journey has been about removing bad attitudes I held toward myself. Most of these I got from my culture (the Deep South) and from churches and my family. Seattle area? Pet loss. Grief Sucks!
This morning I am saying a final goodbye to my best friend. On the way to this moment, I discovered another lesbian on Facebook, Kelli Dunham, who has been widowed twice before turning 45. I'll be 45 at the end of this month. We're both butches and she has a site on Facebook called 'Grief Sucks'. She advises folks in my…

Any other service dog handlers on MFP?
When success means endings as well as new beginnings: Gratitude is overflowing despite being up all night with my sweet service dog, Shiang-Shiang. In Lakewood/Denver? Can you help?
Single mom has opportunity to get certified in the same rehab system that helped her shed over 100 lbs. Childcare for my 5 year old daughter has been offered by a professional nanny in Seattle, where we live. A ride round-trip has been negotiated with an associate attending the Blues festival in Alma this coming weekend.…
