exercise equipment for sale
I have a multi-station weight machine and a pretty nice elliptical for sale. Paid about $400 for the weight machine and $600 for the elliptical. at this point they are taking up space in a storage unit so I thought i might as well sell them instead of paying to store them. Janie and I both have gym memberships (she has 2…

60 pounds of fat loss. (about 25 to goal)
so far I have dropped about 60lbs of fat and put on muscle in the process. No secrets of course, just trying to watch my intake, eat clean, and hit the gym. I work out 3-4 days a week, zero steady state cardio but very high intensity when in the gym. Having my wife with me during this process is a big key to our success.…

2012 body unveiling. lol
Yesterday was the first time we went to the lake this year, so it served as the first time i was "unveiled" for the 2012 season. I must admit that I felt WAY less self conscious shirtless this year, and I actually felt pretty self-confident. I am still about 25lbs or so away from my goal weight but I would like to think I…

recap of our visit to the fitness summit.
Janie and I are so goofy. lol.. we went to a training summit in Chicago as our vacation. it was a functional training summit with lectures and hands on stuff. We were the only ones there that were not in the fitness business (trainers, gym owners, chiropractors, etc.) we had fun, had some GREAT workouts and learned a TON…

your favorite gym or workout place in AR?
i am absolutely in love with Ross Strength and speed (but i realize its not for everyone). we also belong to 10 Fitness, and use the Cantrell location because its so close to the house. I mainly use that one only on the weekends, and lately only when I am not swinging a sledge hammer or maddox in the back yard. lol I am a…

conditioning versus cardio. tell me what you think.
i was going to post that i did my super-duper (patent pending) conditioning pyramid.. its tough, wears me out but what a burner and very time efficient. Before I talk about that, i will point you to Alwyn Cosgrove, and his article on the Hierarchy of Fat Loss. http://alwyncosgrove.com/2010/01/hierarchy-of-fat-loss/ great…

Is anyone worried about the side effects of weight loss (Men
My wife and I have been watching a few of the "reality" TV shows about weight loss, and I have some concerns about the evident side effects of weight loss for men. I am down 50+ lbs so far, and just afraid of the side effects and not sure when they will start or if they impact 100% of men. The primary side effects I worry…

accuracy of the bodybugg.
Just wondering if anyone else has experimented with the bodybugg versus other tools such as a HRM.. My polar FT7 HRM tracks my calorie burn higher than the bodybugg and I tend to believe the polar more, as it is monitoring work product more directly (heart rate) versus accelerometers, galvanic skin temp and other metrics…

My New Years resolutions!
I resolve to accomplish the following goals. a) to reach my goal weight of 185 (i started last march at 265) When I do reach my goal a) I resolve to NOT wear Affliction t-shirts (including "Invisa-Lats" - where the guys walk with their arms out like they have HUGE lats) b) I resolve to NOT wear "Baby Gap" shirts. HUGE sport coat
a grandfather of a dear friend passed, and I was getting ready for the funeral.. I reached in the closet for a basic blue sports coat, and the thing swallowed me. I could have added a couple of buttons and told people it was double-breasted, as i could wrap each side of the coat around me. I thought that was a bit ghetto,…

My Damn wife..
Ever have a spouse that is not supportive at all, that seems to not even care about trying to eat right? well, I have experienced that in the past with other people too, but I just want to say how simply amazing it is to have a wife that loves me, supports me and is a diet and exercise MACHINE. she is up and on the way to…

The scale is your FRIEND, not your enemy.. with proof.
I have been contemplating how we seem to talk about our scales as a sentient being, and how some will say the scale is their enemy. I have come to the conclusion that the scale is indeed our friend, a bit too honest at times, but still a friend. to prove this point, we must consider how react to news from an enemy and a…

Holy cow.. the heat!!!
we had a record heat day in Arkansas yesterday, with air temps of 114 and a heat index approaching 130, simply brutal. For those of you that do not know me, I should mention that I go to a "old school" gym.. not one of the fancy global-gym corporations or gym in a box franchise places.. no fresh cut flowers, no locker…

Dislocated Ribhead = FUN!!!!
I have had this 3-4 times in my life, and it is always a good time.. my MD was not really able to give me anything solid, but a chiropractor said that the ribhead (attachment to the spine) was dislocated or "slipped" and he was able to adjust it and i felt great. This time he was only able to get it to move a little,…

need a sanity check. is this even possible?
in the last three months, I have gone from a fast food loving couch potato, to a PrecisionNutrition eating, 4 intense workout a week mad-man (and loving every minute of it.) I started by just watching what I eat, using myfitnesspal. My confirmed start weight was 265, but I watched what I was eating for a couple of weeks…

body composition testing (digital) - my review
I wanted to share my experience with the group. I found a local center that offered body composition testing. I was already looking for someone to test me, my local gym offers this service, but then I discovered digital body composition testing (dexa -Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry). the test i had used a GE lunar…

big guys mindset
I am a big fella, and have been for several years. I was a skinny kid, but then got into lifting weights in college and i really remembered liking how it felt to be big (muscular in that case, fat now). its like it created a safety zone for me. about 5 years ago, I was going through a divorce, and starting a new job that…

I am a 47 year old married man, and we reside in Little Rock (native of New Orleans). I LOVE to cook, but do not work out as much as I used to and need to reverse this trend of gaining…
