why it's so easy to lose focus
I found this quote tempting to believe, except it's not realistic. "My idea of an agreeable person is a person who agrees with me." Benjamin Disraeli My attitude is primary in what what haapens in my life. Having said that, I find sometimes in life our greatest saboteurs are the ones we would hope would be honest with us…

Live life to the fullest
It has been said that small minds talk about others and watch them live life, but great minds live life to the fullest. I don't want to be like (whoever you want to put here)... I want to be the best me (Jerome) that I can be. This health journey has taught me many lessons among which the greatest is to do what you do to…

So you want to get in shape huh?
Losing weight is a great endeavor and I applaud everyone who is on this journey. The blood, sweat, and tears are worth it. My new long-term/short-term/every-term goal is to get into shape. This is a lifelong process. Many people want to "lose weight for an occassion." I suspect because people don't want to appear out of…

After the loss.....then what?
Hello friends, I was curious to know what you all have planned after you lose the weight. Just maintaining or going beyond? I have two goals, well in regards to weight. Once I hit my mark I would not necessarily try to lose more (it would be great though), but I definitely want to be ripped (in a healthy kind of way,…

Organic or not Organic? That is the question
It is amazing how the shift to organic eating has taken over ad nauseam. Now you can have anything that's "organic." Cheetos, snickers, ice cream you name it you can get it. I eat organic food, love it, feel better when eating it and recommend to you all. However, I find in the health and fitness world the practice of…

Burning more than I think
I'm petty sure I am burning more than I think. Most people doing vigorous exercise burn 10 cals/min so I usually go with that. But I am doing Insanity, P90X+, and running 5 miles @ 9:30. I'm curious to know how much you all burn on average and how you know.

Catatonic Catharsis
In my usual runs throughout the week I am finding a cathartic rhythm to deal with physical/mental inertia or catatonia (Catatonia is a state of neurogenic motor immobility, and behavioral abnormality manifested by stupor). One reason it seems so hard to reach goals is not because a lack of motivation, but rather the body's…

Mind and matter
I know we've all heard the phrase it's "mind over matter" to motivate ourselves. I think it's both. Determination to be healthy will have concrete results. Hard work is necessary (I know), but changing the way we look won't really change the way we think of ourselves. How do I know? Many "healthy" looking people are…

Muscle weight and Fat weight
When I first started this journey back to healthful living I noticed that I wasn't losing as much weight as I wanted to, but I was losing fat. I tried different variations in my workout routines and found that I was losing fat weight, but I was maintaining or gaining muscle weight. At first I thought ok I really want to…

In this together
My personal fitness goals include you. My desire to be fit and healthy is to be able to give better service in my field of work. I'm not consumed with being a poster board, but I want to encourage others to live the best life they can. When I see others succeed it gives me inspiration and incentive to keep pressing…

Eating to rebuild
Most people assume you eat good food then you stay healthy. That's only part of it. A more complete picture is eating healthy foods for what your body needs. An endurance runner needs to replenish her body with nutrient dense high quality foods. A person who works a sedintary job may not need as many calories. There is no…
