Why is (carefully planned) rapid weight loss bad?
So if I have used cronometer to make sure I am getting enough nutrients in and I have a clear plan for the maintenance phase (including practice runs to make sure I actually can manage it) is it so wrong to drop weight by say, not eating for 2 days?... because oh my god the weight flies off and it's sooo much more…

What are the maximum and minimum amounts of "water weight" a body can hold?
I am guessing the answer would be expressed best in grams per kg of body weight but maybe in other terms. Also would be interested in the difference between "normal" water levels and "dehydrated" and "edema" levels, like my MIL has congestive heart failure, I imagine she as a matter of course has far more water weight than…

A whole year to lose 6kg?
According to http://weighwhatwhen.com/ That’s at 1600kcal a day. Does that sound right?

Why am I plateauing?
If my image didn't show up see here. Ok, the first couple of weeks I was eating 2100-1800kcal a day and had some nice loss, ok probably mostly water but still. Third week I challenge myself to stick strictly to 1600 or below for the whole week, and I am successful, things slow down but ok, finished with the water losses,…

Overate massively 2 days in a row
Both yesterday and today my days total calories came to about 3100. I have a cold and I am feeling so rough and icky and I guess my desire to comfort eat just overwhelmed me. I thought I would be able to control myself today but I didn't. It wouldn't be so bad if I'd been more active but because of this cold all I've been…

Is it possible to lose weight during the 2nd trimester of pregnancy
I have just crossed the threshold from class II to class III obesity, obviously this frightens me. Over the course of my pregnancy I have lost 5lbs and gained 11lbs making a net gain of 6lbs on my pre-pregnancy weight, this pushed me into the next class. If I lose just 1lb I will be in class II obesity again, but I'd…

fitbit and bike
If I just use the steps from my fitbit rather than logging cycling (cba to check when I start and finish if I am doing errands or something) is it more likely to over or underestimate. If it overestimates calories burned that's a problem but I'm not bothered if it underestimates.

Just want to share my excitement (new bike!)
So I got a bike for Christmas. I've not ridden a bike since I was 12 or so because when I was a kid I was too embarrassed to do the hand movements and I knew that I'd no longer be allowed to ride on the pavement now I wasn't a "kid" anymore. I have ridden my bike three times since picking it up from the shop last week (the…

Weakness, what does this mean?
So I've not really done much cardio beyond walking because I never felt like the pain I knew it would cause me  So today I was trying to run up and down stairs because I decided I finally need some cardio. Now I was expecting at some point for my legs to start feeling "the burn" but instead they just went weak and…

What I hate about being fat
I hate that people can look at me and automatically think that I am lazy and undisciplined. I hate that they are right, that I can't hide my vices. I hate the lethargy. I hate wanting food when I've eaten enough. I hate not being able to skip meals when it's convenient without stuffing my face from hunger later in the day.…

USDA Supertracker, how many of these nutrients should I worry about?
Out of curiosity I put a few days of meals into the udsa supertracker and these were the things it said I was over or under: Under Fiber (20/25g) Linoleic Acid(6/12g) alpha-Linoleic Acid(0.9/1.1g) Calcium(499/1000g) Potassium(2189/4700g) Copper(842/900micrograms) Magnesium(204/310mg) Vitamin C(40/75mg) Vitamin…

Totally different weight at the doctors
So I check in with a healthcare assistant once every two weeks to keep me accountable. She weighed me today and tells me I am 4.4kg lighter than last time (and I lost a similar amount between that and the previous so it can't be I was just particularly heavy that day). I checked the conversion and that's 9ish lbs! By way…

Plantar Fasciitis?
I have an appointment with my doctor on the 10th but in the mean time I wanted to ask a few things. So I started having pain in one of my feet about a year ago which occurred when waking up or when getting up from a seated position. After walking for a bit it went away and I figured it was just me getting stiff in my old…

The importance of compassion
I often read about how it's important to "love yourself" and if I am honest every single time I cringe and think of some loud woman, probably wearing leopard print, cackling that she loooves herself. Or I think of some narcissistic dude saying how he has everything he wants because he visualised it and the only reason you…

Do you eat at a deficit when you have (mild) infections
I've got a cold at the moment, first one of the year, what worries me is it's going a lot slower than usual (it could be I caught two consecutive colds and one of them got better really fast though). I'm doubtful it's the calories, but part of me hears my mothers voice telling me to "eat up" to get my strength back (OK! I…

type 2 diabetes and body fat
I am looking for some information about type 2 diabetes. I want to know if anyone has any experience of someone who: - Got diagnosed with diabetes while clinically "obese" - Reduced their body fat percentage into a low range (15-10% say for a male) - Still had abnormal blood sugars I am wondering how effective it would be…

Insomnia caused by dieting?
I have not manage to get a full 8hrs for what seems like a fortnight (I think I actually got one in that time, but only one). I am currently up on the computer because yet again I can't sleep and my fidgeting was keeping my partner up and he has work in the morning so I got up so he can kip. I feel ridiculously tired but…

Banish Spray
It is some indeterminate time in the future. The MalTel corporation has just come out with a new product, "Banish". Banish is a nasal spray which lasts 1 minute. For one minute after the application your brain is incapable of laying down new long term memories. If you use it immediately after doing something that is still…

850 calorie challenge
Tomorrow I am going to do this challenge: http://boringdevelopment.com/2014/07/15/launching-the-850-calorie-challenge/ http://850calories.com The details of why are in the post and I thought it would be worth sharing. I am putting it here not in one of the weight loss sections because I don't advocate such a diet from a…

Ew ew EW!
So I'm eating my breakfast. A slice of Wholemeal bread with butter and a carrot. Then I notice something... We made the bread last night and set it on the counter to cool. Clearly it must have smelled really good because I was apparently not the first to get to the bread, oh no, just under the point I'd bitten off so that…

Dirty vegetables
Whenever I get carrots or potatoes with dirt still on them I never seem to be able to scrub enough to get it all off. If I give it a good go and it's still kinda dirty, it's still fine to eat right? I don't want to have to peel things just because of a bit of dirt residue.

Fitbit calories, not losing anymore
Before I started using my fitbit I was losing about 2lbs a week even though I set my deficit to 1lb a week. Since I started using it I have more or less remained the same weight, I have been eating some but not all of the exercise calories it gave me and just to be on the safe side I switched to a 1000 calorie deficit. MFP…

Anyone have a recipe for ratatouille
Specifically one that uses one courgette and one aubergine as that is what I got in my veg box this week. I've never made it before but when I saw a courgette and an aubergine I wanted to make it. All the recipes I've found need different proportions (double the number of courgettes to aubergines).

Fitbit calories all weird
I dusted off my fitbit one and had fun with it. Problem is its added my calories weirdly. On the fitbit dashboard it says I have a sensible 200ish calories left, on mfp it says I have over a thousand because it's deducted all the exercise calories I guess without adjusting for the fact I'd have burned calories doing nowt…

People claiming to be full in tiny calorie amounts
When people post things on here saying they only eat 1200/1000/800 etc calories a day and they are soooooo full and they just can't seem to find ways to eat more than that while at the same time claiming to be fat (how did they get fat eating so little?) are they just lying. When I eat 1500 calories a day, even if I eat…

9 portions of fruit and veg a day?
So if we are meant to have 9 80g portions of fruit and veg a day (and I have never eaten fruit without puking so it's just veg for me)... How do you guys manage that? I mean I am not sure how I would manage this every day. Tommorow I thought I could have: Breakfast: peas with butter Lunch: cucumber smoothie with a salad…

Gross topic, is this normal
So I switched to wholemeal bread from white and... well... my poo smells like manure, like... cow poo, not human poo. Is that normal? I've not gone veggie or anything so I find it weird and even if I had I only have one stomach not 4 (even though I might look like I could fit 4 in there).

Way over syns, under calories
So I set myself various goals lately. I basically realised and accepted I'm going to have to count calories for the rest of my life and with the help of apps like this I'm not too worried about that because it's easy this way. I need to reduce my weight because next year I'm going to start trying for a baby and I want to…

Do you think fat people "ought" to lose weight?
If someone is fat, and doesn't have health problems because of being fat, do you think they "should" lose weight? Would you in any way look down on them or reject them if they chose to live with their weight instead of struggling to change it? Why or why not?
