So I set myself various goals lately. I basically realised and accepted I'm going to have to count calories for the rest of my life and with the help of apps like this I'm not too worried about that because it's easy this way. I need to reduce my weight because next year I'm going to start trying for a baby and I want to be as healthy as possible at that time.
I made various changes. Trying to cut out snacking and only eat 3 meals a day. Recording my food even when I eat too much. Avoiding too much sitting down and getting more exercise and restricting my calories to under 2100 as a hard limit except on real special occasions (birthdays, Easter etc as opposed to "I got good news today" kinds of easily expanded special occasions).
I've already seen some results from these very comfortable and moderate changes. Because this time I'm serious about losing weight for my future children's sake and not just because I wish I was pretty I went to the doctor and asked what support was available.
And the doctor gave me a referral to Slimming World.
I have to admit Im skeptical about the Slimming world diet. I like butter, I like whole milk. I like puddings and if I'm not snacking I find all the above fit fine into my calorie allowance. I don't feel hungry or like I need to eat more bulk and I get my vegetables in. On the other hand I could really use the social support a group like that has.
I did my first slimming world week this week and I just continued eating according to my own rules, I am dreading going in there with my food diary because every day so far bar one I've been over syns. Equally I've been under calories every day bar one and the weekly average is under the hard limit and my lower limit of 1800. On the only day I was under syns I had 1170 kcal. It really seems silly to me that I should have so few calories if I'm losing weight with many more.
I don't want to abandon it both because I want the social aspect and I don't want the doctor to hate me, but the likely outcome of me going is that I'm going to be humiliated every week by my food diary and all the syns on it and get a telling off.
What do you think I should do?

Hi do the best you can and dont worry about the rest. Now hate and humiliation are strong words. There is no reason for your doc to hate you or to be humiliated by your group, if it is the case I say run........elsewhere. No one under any circumstances should subject themselves to that, but I think you are just a little anxious you will see it will be better than you think.
You cannot change your life on a short period of time there is always at the beginning trial and error, it is human and understandable.
Wishing you success and a little family to go with it.0 -
It sounds like you already know what you want to do. Trust your intuition (believe me, you'll need to rely on it heavily once you have kids). If what you were doing was working, keep doing it.
If you stick around here long enough, you'll see that a lot of people think that if you can fit whatever you want into your calorie budget, then go for it. No foods are off-limits, and restricting yourself can lead to future fail. I happen to agree and it sounds like you do too, with the full-fat versions of food, real butter, etc.
In the long run, you should not give a hoot about what anyone else thinks, including your doctor (you are a customer of his when it comes right down to it; don't worry about hurting his feelings). And if you want social support for your weight loss, you can get it here and many other websites. Or at work, or with friends, family, etc. No need to pay for supportive people.
Best of luck to you!!! If you want friends here, feel free to send me a friend request.0 -
I sin a lot too, good to see others who are over their sin quota.0
