Deadlift: am I doing something wrong?
First time I did it, I felt an intense burn mostly in my Achilles tendons and calf muscles. And now that area has been sore and stiff for two days. Is that OK? I was so worried about protecting my lower back, that this throws me off. Thanks for any suggestions!

"No woman should ever lift more than 3lbs"
"...because it won't get you the body you want and it results in injury". That's what Tracy Anderson just said on Piers Morgan Live...I swear...how can she be so successful in her business and trusted by so many people?

Hypothyroidism - Hashimoto's?
Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 14 years ago. Is it important to know which type I have? Apparently, treatment is the same for every type, but I keep reading that people with Hashimoto should try to go gluten free and I'm starting to wonder about this. I'd love to know your personal experience with being…

Lifting - Burn vs. failure
Hi! as I take my first steps into the lifting world, I've noticed that sometimes I have to stop an exercise because of how much my muscles burn (happens with shoulders especially) and sometimes I stop because my muscles fail (as in, I can't do another rep) but there is no burn. I wonder why is it that the muscles respond…

Psychology podcasts?
Can anyone recommend a a psychology podcast to make my brain-killing commute a bit productive? A google search only led me to a couple of websites with very old ones. Btw, I rather stay away from self-help kind of stuff. I want something that includes talks about theory/research/etc. Something like that has to exist!…

Peanut butter recommendations
Hi! as a foreigner living in the US, I have just started eating peanut butter. I started this summer when we were on vacation and staying at crappy hotels that didn't offer any protein for breakfast, so I decided to give it a try. I loved the creamy one I tried, but can't remember the brand (single portion package was…

Skirt/Dress shape and length for short ladies?
Hi there, after a decade of not wearing skirts or dresses, I'm seriously considering buying some, but I have no clue as to what would be flattering. I'm 5'3". What shape and length would be most flattering for me? (I'm seriously fashion-challenged to boot). Thanks! Edit to add: hourglass figure!

NROLFW - how do I pace myself?
Hi, yesterday was my first workout (stage 1-workout 1) and I couldn't believe how fast it went (not that it was easy!). It took me maybe 20mins to do. How fast do you do the exercises? How do you know if you're doing them too fast or too slow? I'm so used to Chalene telling me to slow down! Thanks!

9-year old (school lunch) food critic
This little girl has a blog where she documents her school lunch (including number of hairs found in the food!). The cool thing is that she helped change some rules in her and now kids can have as many veggies/fruits and bread as they want. Her blog: http://neverseconds.blogspot.com/

"name your price" - buying plane tickets
Hi everyone, has any of you tried buying your plane tickets using the name your price option? I ask because I've been trying to buy tickets to Argentina for weeks, and when I find a decent price, tickets have been sold out (this appears after I enter my info...). Anyway, the priceline website doesn't explain much, other…

White fat/brown fat
I just read an article about brown fat and want to share it here because I didn't know such a thing existed and maybe you didn't either! Basically, we have two types of fat in our bodies: white fat: the kind we're trying to get rid of here, and brown fat: "a type of heat-generating fat that burns energy rather than storing…

Losing weight and dreams
Hi, I had a great dream last night about being in the airport and having bags that were too heavy (as heavy as the weight I wanted to reach until yesterday, when I changed my goal). Crying, I decided to let go of some of my clothes since I couldn't afford the extra weight... At moments, there was a little girl standing…

Fat Head - Documentary
First, let me say that I just finished watching it and my head is spinning, because it basically claims that everything we've been taught about what we should eat is wrong. For example, the guy explains that high cholesterol is not linked to heart disease -according to research-, but sugar is. Now, having an Italian…

swollen ankles - strange
Hi, I just noticed that my ankles are very swollen. However, it's only the bony parts on each side of the ankles that are swollen, not all the way around like it's happened when I take a long flight, for example. Is this normal? I think I know the cause of the swelling (I had a party las night, and ate stuff that I didn't…

Should I warm up before 30 day shred?
Hi! today was day 1. I felt "unsafe" starting just like that, so I did a 10 min aerobic workout from youtube. Nothing hurt, but I'm worried I might be doing to hurt myself. What has been your experience? what about cooling down for longer as well? is it necessary? Thanks!

Things my nutritionist taught me
Hi, I'm a newbie here! Reading through the message board, sometimes I get worried about the amount of misinformation going around (although people challenge it, which is great). I thought we could benefit from sharing info from drs/nutritionists/dietitians in order to share proper information. So, here goes the first…
