Hi!
my antivirus (avast) hasn't found anything, but for the past few days, every time I close ie 2 or 3 new pages open up with the same window I just closed! Could this be a virus? can anyone recommend any other free antivirus?
thanks!

AVG for antivirus (you have to search for the free one but it's there)
Malware Bytes to check for Malware
Spybot Search and Destroy for any other nasties that can get into your system

All 3 are free, and decently good, especially when working together.

Also, you might look into downloading and using a different browser. IE is a pain in the *kitten*. I'd try either Firefox or Google Chrome. I've used both and like them (although I use Chrome more now).

Hitman Pro will find things when nothing else will.

Thanks, ladies. I ran hitman and it found nothing but tracking cookies.
I know ie is not the best, but can't get used to other browsers. I have firefox, but find it annoying.

Run Avast. If that doesn't pick up anything, run Malwarebytes.

If that doesn't work, its just IE being **** like usual.

You can also go into Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs and scroll through to make sure you haven't accidentally downloaded any tag-along programs that could be clogging up your computer, like trackers, etc...

Mine was doing the same thing yesterday. Except mine did it while it was open. I had several tabs open and each time I clicked on one to go to another page it would be the same page I was already on. Was so frustrated that I finally just shut my computer down

This, though I'm a Firefox user as I find Chrome annoying.

I also used AVG for years and never had a problem. I switched to a popular "pay" anti virus program, but I didn't have any complaints agains AVG, the free version. And, I have been using Firefox for my browser for about 6 years and prefer it to IE. Less problems all around than with IE.

Ditch IE and go with Firefox, then download the NoScript add on for it. I haven't had a problem with viruses in a long, long time.
  • IE is terrible. Switch to a better browser, like Chrome or Firefox.
