Newbie gains?
I'm taking a 3wk boot camp trial & I just had my 2 week weigh-in. Std scale (clothes + shoes), hand-held BIA (tanita I think). Same time of day, hydration levels & other conditions. Total Weight: 159lb --> 158lb = -1lb Fat %: 38.4% --> 36.2% Lean: 97.9lb --> 100.8lb = + 2.9lb Fat: 61.1lb --> 57.2lb = -3.9lb Is an almost…

Courtesy (rant)
The gas station I go to is always busy on Sunday-extra discounts off gas. I went in to pay-there's a sign on the door that says "Form a line to the left". There were two people waiting and I moved in behind them. Another person got in line behind me. As the line moved and I was going to be the next to pay a guy walked into…

NSV: I Conquered the World!
NotGoddess Conquered the World! (nikerunning.nike.com) I walked 1,137,920 steps and ran 63.5 miles to generate 41,554 NikeFuel and conquered 10 global cities. After I finished I got this message: The world wants a rematch. Game on!

Finally- Normal BMI
My self-imposed March 1 date is fast approaching and I will not meet my goal of being 130 or 25% BF. But I'm happy to report that yesterday I finally reached a 'Normal' BMI of 24.9, so I'm posting. :) I can't find my before picture, so I'll save that for when I'm at goal, but here's what I look like now. To me, I still see…

. or ! or !! (and is !!! too much?)
Since joining this site, has anyone else found they are using exclamation points with greater and greater frequency? I read about great burns and NSVs and a simple period does not seem to convey my excitement and pride for the person, regardless of the sentence content. But regular use of ! seems to lessen their intensity…

NSV - the dress I wasn't sure I'd ever wear...
It was too small when I bought it, but I loved it at first site and the price (Von Maur clearance) was fantastic. I told myself I'd lose the weight needed to wear it in 6 months. I even blogged about it. That was Jul 2, 2008. Well, I was right- it did take me 6 months to lose the weight....it just took 3 years for my mind…

Body Image and accepting the success
I am having issues struggling with what should be a joyful NSV. This weekend, my sister, who has always been thin, gave me a couple pairs of dress pants that don't fit her anymore. I tried them on and not only do they fit, they are actually loose. I'll have to wear a belt with the larger pair. This should be a huge NSV.…

Favorite stores for petite sizes?
Somehow I've managed to get to a size 4 petite. Part of me thinks it's crazy because I've still got a tummy but I guess it's vanity sizing gone wild. The problem is 4p is the smallest petite size they sell at my store of choice (Kohl's). I need to find some new shops where I can buy business casual clothes. Preferably not…

Newbie Runner NSV
I just started running (jogging...wogging?) in August, doing the c25k program in preparation for a 5k on October 17. I am determined that I will complete it even if I walk the whole way. I normally walk 4+ miles so I knew I could. Today I realized I might just be able to RUN the whole way. Today I ran for 30 minutes…

Mixing up the walking routine
Last night I was out for a walk (over-indulged) and found myself doing short sprints lightpole to lightpole, then walking for 2-3 to cool down, and repeating. On my way home I saw someone in the distance-looked like she was jumping on a pogo stick. When I got closer I saw she was walking sideways, like a gallop, or skip…

NSV- I have ribs- who knew?
I'd always suspected and I finally have physical proof. I was walking past the mirror and as I'm wont to do, paused and sucked in my belly to check my progress. To my complete surprise I actually saw the outline of my ribcage there! I was able to suck in my belly far enough so it showed the curve of the bone below the…

Running Shoes dilemma
I've got a bit of a dilemma regarding my new running shoes that I hope I can get some advice on. Long post but I want you to have all the info. History- Never -ever- thought I'd start running. But with starting to get fit it seemed like a natural progression. I'd been walking 2-3 miles at lunch and wanted to burn more,…

It's not the lbs loss, it's the progress.
I weighed in today and found I'd lost 0.2lb for the week, possibly 0.6 but my scale was wavering so I decided to go with the higher weight to be safe-if it's wrong I'll show better progress next week, right? Here's my thing...six months ago I would have been appalled at only losing 0.2lb, counted it as a failure and…

Is it safe to use a HRM at a waterpark?
I'm going to an amusement park with my kids on Sunday. It'll be an all day event (10am-10pm). I've decided to use my HRM to log all the extra walking I'll be doing since that'll be my exercise for the day. There is a large waterpark there and I'm sure we'll be spending a few hours climbing stairs to go on slides, etc. I…

Weight training to complement c25k?
Hey. I'm just wrapping up my 30DS and I'm starting the c25k program. Yes, I know, and I'm hoping the debate going on in my head over my level of sanity will stay in committee until after the 5k in October. :) Anyway, the program runs 3 days a week with rest days in between. I thought it would be good to introduce some…

Low/No impact exercises
Hey guys, need some advice. My mom is diabetic and needs to exercise to help with her glucose levels. She was walking, but it got painful and she's been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in her knees. I've done some searching and while I know she might like doing things like water aerobics or the stationary bike, I also know…

Name that sushi!
For lunch today I decided to treat myself to sushi. I had what was called a Windmill roll and it's not listed in the food database. I picked California roll as I think it was closest but maybe there are sushi people out there than can point to a better match. The inside was crab meat, asparagus and avocado, sushi rice and…

Needed: heathy, easy recipes for kids
My kids have been visiting their father over the summer. A break for me and it has given me the opportunity to really improve my fitness and eating habits. They'll be back at the end of the month and I want to make sure 1) I don't slip in my own goals 2) I cook dishes that are healthy for all of us. So I need ideas for…

Please review my food diary
I've only got about a week's worth in here, but I'd really love some feedback. I was logging 'elsewhere' since 6/18 and netting around 900 cal/day, and losing, slowly but steadily (3lb in 3 weeks). My BMR is 1322. Starting here, I wanted to do things 'right' and make sure I wasn't starving myself. But I'm also pretty short…

Introducing myself
Greetings, I wanted to introduce myself, give a little history and invite feedback to help me make the most of my time here. Apologies if this is really long, but I wanted to give you a feel for my past habits in case it helps. Bio data: Age: 39 Height: 5' 2" Current weight: 156 Goal weight: 125 (but I may stop along the…
