Jackie, I have an app where I can do one puzzle a day for free. That works for me!! As far as assembling puzzles, there are many options--puzzle mats, little tabletops with built-in drawers, a foldout contraption with fold over sides/top/bottom and Velcro closure. I had a really big piece of cardboard but it is too slippery and one little tip and everything cascades over the side. Happy hunting!

Long day at church. Then got my friend's birthday gift delivered and visited with another friend who's in the hospital right now.
I got most of my cards addressed to shut-ins this afternoon and got some bills paid. I am out of my little colored greetings so need to get started on those again.

Just dropping in to let you know I am back from our trip in our rv up to Sparks, Nv which is near Reno. Really enjoyed being in the 70-75 degree weather for 4 days, but back home to our 90+ for the rest of this week. As usual didn't have much luck in the casinos, but we did enjoy a few meals there. Have a dr appt tomorrow to try to get a referral to see a podiatrist. Its been four months now and I am real tired of this plantar fiscitis. Hopefully I can get a referral now, then it will be back to our floor decisions again. Shall be glad when this is done. Thinking of all of you....

I thought I missed today's post because for the first time in ages, I sat down to watch some TV and fell asleep! Watched Money Monster ( George Clooney and Julia Roberts ) and couldn't follow lots of it, but the premise of the movie, which is that investments are one huge gamble with all the internet manipulation that goes on, reminded me of how precariously I live!We invest very conservatively, but who knows what that means? With interest rates so ridiculously low. what choices have we on fixed incomes?
JACKIE, should we use George's growling reaction as a bellwether for November? Can we depend on his behavior?
PHOEBE, sorry about your post, but it sounds as though a few of us had website problems here yesterday! I lost a post which then reappeared later!

A damp morning, the sort of drizzle, or mizzle as we call it in Cornwall, that soaks you through without you realising! After a for me, lazy weekend with Davis Cup tennis to watch as GB lost to Argentina, I'm going to spend the afternoon avoiding online jigsaw puzzles and get lots of housework done because this time next week a friend will be arriving for a stay. We've known each other over 35 years and she's currently pack packing from Seville to Malaga with a friend, something we all used to do in the 60's.
Patsy ~ Recently visiting friends I was surprised the husband commented on my floral trainers and skinny jeans as he thought they were somewhat "modern" for someone my age but I soon put him right because to my mind fashion we've worn before, even if 40 years ago, gives us the right to wear now!! Your jeans sound wonderful. I do hope Katie is alright. George went off his food a month or so ago which is when I gave in and started cooking for him, mostly lamb, wholemeal rice and a few veggies. He loves it and more importantly, it works out cheaper than the sachets I was buying for him.
Buzz ~ George is certainly discerning when it comes to who or what he growls at and since I can completely understand his current grumble am sure he's on to something!!
Lin ~ Looking into the variety of mats and boards for jigsaws I was surprised how many reviews make the point that for what you get, the cost is extortionate so will probably stick with my original idea of picking up a piece of wood at the local builders yard and make my own. Glued felt will hopefully stop the jigsaw pieces sliding.... will let you know.
Diane ~ I had to look up podiatrist as it's not a term I've come upon but seeing it's similar to my foot therapist that does everything from massage to nail clipping can highly recommend a regular treatment. If nothing else it's incredibly relaxing!
Marie ~ I'm delighted to read you feel you are getting back to your old self so all that wonderful care from family and professionals has worked! Keep taking care of yourself.
Time for lunch and today will be cottage cheese, prawns and a small salad because my weight is up a pound and I know when my friend visits next week it will be difficult to stay on the straight and narrow because she does like her food and wine although the latter is easy enough for me to decline.

Happy Monday. Enjoyed a nice weekend with the family.
Woke up this morning to our main level air conditioning unit not working. The good news is that the temps should be below 90F all week and the upstairs air conditioner is working so I have the option to sleep upstairs if necessary. The bad news is that the repair company's first available appointment isn't until Saturday and this is a really old unit, so it will probably need to be replaced.

Happy Monday! Postponed my luncheon date with Joe from the pool until tomorrow. I woke up very early with bathroom issues so thought it best to postpone. After leaving my friends I went to see Bryanna where she works because I missed her. She told me she had a couple of dates with a guy ten years older than her (she is 21) and wondered if that upset me. His age didn't upset me but he works at Starbucks so not too sure about that for a career. I made the mistake of texting her dad and he was very upset about it.
He is afraid the guy will take advantage of her, although I explained it wasn't a serious relationship which made him more upset that they guy is probably a player. So he texted Bryanna and now I have caused a riff between them and feel awful. I really only told him because he is 11 years older than Lisa and I thought he would think like father like daughter.
Lesson learned no more sharing with her father, although after this Bryanna will probably not share anything with me again. I did apologize to both of them and told them I didn't mean to upset anyone. No response from either as of yet.
Thanks for letting me vent once again, it is becoming a habit that I bet you wish I would stop.

And here's me, sneezing, sore throat, shivering me. I never get colds. Mike came over on Friday sneezing his head off. It's pollen related he said. Aah!
Pollen related my foot. He's now having a day off work and I've got The Bean stealing my paper tissues, shredding them, and wondering why Anne is too weak to tell her off!
I've got all sorts of stuff I want to do and it's taking me twice as long because I'm forever blowing my dripping nose. The good news, I don't think dogs can catch human colds?
To crown it all my DIL phoned to let me know a mouse was spotted among the veggies in the organic store. Big deal! Just cut the nibbled bits off said I and thoroughly wash, after all, what harm can a little mouse do. I have them in the back garden casting a hopeful glance at my garage and basement now that Tabitha Daisy is no more. Everything is looking for winter quarters. Must leave porch lights on all night to discourage raccoons casting the same hopeful glance at my roof and attic space.
Moan over for the day, excuse me whilst I go and get another tissue,

I watched Woman in Gold yesterday and loved it. I'm cheap so I wait until I can watch for free.
Buzz, much as I like to sleep, I've stayed up way too late the last few days. Must stop doing that, so I won't be so lazy in the daytime.
Lin, I've used Quell every day while we worked, and here at home I used it when I got home from shopping last Friday. Although I took Saturday and Sunday'off', by staying off of my feet, I didn't use quell. I'm not having much pain, and I believe it is a combination of things. Quell, medication, and not bearing my weight. I don't want to sing the praises of Quell too much because I'm not sure if the other entries into this market are comparable. They certainly don't cost as much. I bought a reconditioned Quell for $199. It seems to work fine, although I may have to reset it because I may have messed with the program. The Velcro is not a very super duty type. Twice while wearing it at rest stops, it loosened and slid down to my ankle. It is an easy fix with any number of ties. Overall, so far, I think it is worth trying, because they have a 60 day return policy! Plenty of time for testing. Anything that eases the sciatica nerve pain is worth it to me. Our insurance is so bad now, I don't think I can afford the injection in my back again.

Marie, hope you are getting better, it takes time and gets harder to be patient.
Jackie, I think George has good taste in choosing who he dislikes! Any sign of your garden help?
Patsy, I hope Katie is better already. I know it's scary. I used to wear jeans, but now they aren't comfortable to me! I do remember one pair that wore to a soft soft feel and ripped at the knee. Many many sizes smaller too.
Marcella, sorry about the Ac system. I'd be tempted to find a hotel, lol. Or go to the camper.
Anne, hate to hear you've got a bad bug. Do you have a fever? Take care of yourself, do only what you must until you are better. Snuggle with the lil bean.

I am just crying my eyes out right now as I just saw Louise Penny's post that her beloved husband has passed away. I have followed all of her emails and Facebook posts as her husband's condition progressed. She wrote so lovingly of how things changed. She really touched my heart and I am inordinately sad.

Phoebe, forgot to post that when Babe went for the MRI no one informed the technician that Babe just had a stent put in. The tech told him he has to wait 8 weeks for an MRI. He has ear doctor appoint on Wednesday.

This is the time of year when we get colds, flu and pneumonia. I need to get my flu shot. I am not sure they help but we get them none the less because...you never know! Anne, please take care of yourself. I worry about things getting worse and turning into pneumonia. That is my big fear. I had it once and and it was not a jolly experience.
We went out for John's new favorite thing. He loves the Costco frozen yoghurt. It isn't the greatest lunch in the world but he says it makes his tummy feel better! (?) now it is time for a very small dinner and a bit of exercise. Just between you and me...I think he just loves ice cream.
Saw a wonderful documentary on PBS on black ballerinas. There was quite a bit on Misty Copeland. Wow! This dancer really transcends dancing and it is pure artistry. She defies gravity and moves in ways most human beings cannot. She can float in the air and goes airborn with the speed of a hummingbird.

Spent today battling sleep, as I actually had 1 1/2 hours last night, not getting to bed until 6:45 AM!!! Absurd and I won't allow that to happen again! Discovered our new primary care Dr. prescribed the most costly meds for his pneumonia IV drip! I fought so hard about double billing last week, and won! Now this! OK, Buzz, kwitcherbellyachin'. Yes, he is worth it, but the Doctor was wrong to order outside the formulary! 'Nuff said!

Hello, just me, old misery, popping in for a minute, cough, sneeze, splutter, splutter.
How do you explain to one small black ball of energy, "no, I don't want to throw balls, play tug with squirrelly, or pick up shredded tissue."
A very frail old lady coming out of church on Sunday and being propped up by another motherly sort said, "oh my, what I'd give for that energy" as Jilly bounded up, yipping excitedly and bestowing kisses". Today, me too!
I shall bravely soldier on and try not to give Michael, the bearer of germs, a clip around the ear the next time I see him!

Good day, Mah Jongg Morning and doing a craft project at the library this evening with a couple of errands thrown in perhaps. Yesterday I had to go to the post office, went over to the old health food store as I had a lovely $10 off coupon! To the gas station to fill the car using a discount coupon earned on my credit card. Had two pairs of glasses adjusted at two different stores, and ordered a new pair as well. Picked up an accompaniment CD for a lady at church from the Christian book store and did a long ramble around Costco. Then home for lunch, some correspondence and texting with a few people.
One relatively young friend is going in a week from this Wednesday to have her gall bladder removed out patient. They have young kids and she doesn't get paid if she's not at work. She plans to go back on Friday. All I can say is she is young and God bless her if she can do that.
Sandy, sorry Babe wasn't able to have the test. He has so many health issues doesn't he?
Phoebe, your post didn't show up for me until last evening. Odd! Thank you for the update on Quell. I see you have to buy some replacement strips(?) each month and even though the company says to avoid using contact gel that some users say that's what made it work best for them. Trying to learn through your experience. Thank you so much.
Patsy, they are already giving seasonal flu shots here and are encouraging seniors to get them early. I don't know that they help that much but I will say that a friend at church got an upper respiratory thing 4 weeks ago and is still coughing. Her family insists she go to the doctor, she is dragging her feet. Like you I fear things developing into pneumonia. I just wish she felt better.
Anne, I do 't know if cuffing your dear Michael will help at all but if you must.....
Try to ignore Jilly a bit and take good care of yourself. I get many vegetables from my CSA that have bug eaten bits etc. Ignore imperfections and live with what you have. Right? In all things, not just vegetables!
Buzz, maybe the only drug he thought would work for Mike was non-formulary? I don't know but my friend, please, please, please get some rest.

Morning everyone! I hope this is a beautiful day wherever you are.
I was awakened by the phone today. The preregistration nurse calling to get Jim ready for his colonoscopy on Monday. It's over an hour but cuts down on all that on the day of.
I received my card stock diecuts yesterday. They are flat when they arrive and I'll fold them into the cutest little milk cartons. They are decorated for Christmas. Unfortunately, I guessed at the dimensions of my jelly jars, and the milk cartons are too small for them. Last night, I found another use for them, and I think it was meant to be! All thanks to Marie's daughter, Alice! Alice has been hosting a gratitude list for the 30 days of September. This is on Facebook. Each day she asks a question. For example, what season are you most grateful for? I'm going to print these 30 questions, cut them like fortune cookie slips of paper, and put each set of 30 questions into the little milk cartons. Fun and thought provoking.
Lin, I was thinking of getting out today for some errands, but then I thought again. Lol. I don't know if this gasoline problem is national news. We are seeing leaps in gas prices by as much as 30¢ per gallon! Maybe more than that by now. We can only hope the prices go back down again.
Anne, I hope you will feel better soon, Jilly needs her playmate! Plus I know you miss your walks. Is Michael getting better?
Buzz, me too, a daytime sleepyhead. I've made my list of 'To-Do's', and I'm sticking to it, as long as I don't sit down!

Enjoyed my weekly swim with friends this morning, did some shopping and then, well who knows where the time went but I haven't achieved much. On Friday I'm going to a charity coffee morning in support of our local air ambulance and offered to make a few jars of spiced rhubarb chutney for them to sell but can't remember where my recipe is so will have to do some research! Phoebe~ Still no sign of my gardener after his initial visit unless he's been coming round when I've been out. He is a free spirit in every way so I'll just have to be grateful when he does drift my way but meanwhile I'm managing a few jobs each day to keep on top of things. Sandy ~ Oh dear, I hope Bryanna forgives and forgets. She's all grown up at 21 so I expect she'll move on.
