I remember the Thorpe scandal JACKIE and I have seen photos of Hugh Grant portraying the man. You are right, uncannily like him. I think Hugh Grant will come into his own as an actor as he ages.
The bee sting must have really hurt said she once stung by a bee and numerous wasps, all in England! Mark got stung by a bee at his school in Derbyshire and I had to pick him up. But to have your bee sting followed by that naughty George is too much !!!!
I'm still not going to vote. The conservative leader is the brother of the late mayor. Today he is in court facing a lawsuit from his brothers widow, strongly denied by him, for 15 million dollars. The present liberal PM had to deal with an electricity power plant scandal, and the NDP leader is an unknown quality promising all sorts of stuff. I shall stay home and like you have a good old moan when the dust settles. At least most folk have forgotten about Mr T at the moment which makes a nice change.

Hi ho, everyone! Sunny day today, mild temps. Wow, what a gift. We are heading out for a few errands and then home for a very late lunch/dinner. Cuts way back on calories when we only have 2 meals a day. Of course the temptation is to really have a very hardy lunch/dinner. Dangerous.
Watched Bill Clinton and James Patterson on the late show. They were talking about their new book. Should be a good read. A thriller...naturally.
I have been a political volunteer since I was in high school. I have never not voted. True, sometimes the choice is almost not worth the effort but we must try. I fear there is a sense of “giving up” in the US mid-term primaries. No! NO! Use that vote to make a change. Follow your heart.
I tried one of the canes with the big claw tips. Good grief! I could hardly lift the thing. I am double downing on my exercise. It is either that or doing more house cleaning. Well you can guess my personal decision.
Our son is planning another long sail over the Columbia /pacific bar. It is called the graveyard of the pacific. I am terrified when he does that. I am a mom, it is my job!
British scandals seem so mild compared to our current state of affairs. I would trade with you. It keeps us on our toes just keeping up with the latest ridiculous event.

Jackie, the first season of A Very English Scandal is coming to Amazon Prime Video at the end of June.
I will have to try watching that. Did I mention I tried to watch Winchester a couple of days ago. Detested it. Ejected the DVD. Ack.
I do not vote in the primary elections as I will not register as Republican or Democrat, even in the short term. I vote in the general elections.
I just spent about two hours ordering a replacement phone. My current phone will not hold a charge these days. I have to have it attached to a power source most of the time, just a few hours and the battery is toast even without using it. It just drains. Using it pulls it down insanely fast. So, a new phone will be coming in the mail. Then to work through trying to do the switchover. Argh!
Jackie, ouch, ouch, ouch. A bee sting!!! Did your hand swell up? I am so sorry and then naughty George caused his own problems but I guess that means he is feeling quite well.
Patsy, so the multi-footed cane is a no-go? A friend has some type of fold up cane that she uses and says it is the best but I am sorry, I cannot remember the brand.
Anne the Deleter, aha, crackers. Yummmmmm, that sounds delicious. Did the Bean get a little crumb or two? Hummm, Vitamin D could be a problem? My friend with a similar issue has been advised to take even more Vitamin D but for heavens sake, do not let a bit of a beet be put on her plate. And she loves them.
Must now try to catch up on everything I did not accomplish due to the ordering. And before that some church business. Luckily nothing is must-do this afternoon.

Freezing today here LIN but the heat and humidity return tomorrow. Interesting what you said about your friend and vitamin D. My sons take it only in the winter apparently. Mike came off his fast at lunchtime with a bowl of homemade onion soup. I'm amazed he lasted so long! I've heard about beets being a stone problem. I love them.
Still not going to vote. Follow your heart PATSY? None of this lot appeal to my heart. One contestant is going to eliminate so many schools, hospitals and nurses. Another is going to flood us with doctors. The third hasn't much chance and is asking voters to vote for their party which will cause a wedge between the other two and thus reduce extremes. No mention of us oldies as far as I can make out.
I must admit British scandals tend to cause merriment with the newspapers having a field day. Sometimes serious as in the Profumo affair but we can always find the humour in it all. I can still hear my mil cackling away at the thought of two young girls bringing the uppers down a peg or two. Maybe that's what we need, a belly laugh when our leaders get pompous and full of themselves.

New modem, new password, phone and internet service restored after 2 days. Wonder if I lost my count here! So tired , and the weather is still rainy, but occasionally we see the sun! I will now wobble off to bed where my eyes will probably remain wide open. I learned again how to answer my cell!

PS, just read that Mr. T asked our Canadian Mr. T, "didn't you guys burn down the whitehouse". Well no. It was British soldiers during the war of 1812 who burnt the whitehouse down in retaliation after America invaded the British colony, and who also burnt as they advanced, before Canada became Canada. See what I mean about having a laugh at these leaders. I'm sure Mr. T number one was having a joke with Mr, T number two, but best get your facts straight when talking in public, someone out there will take it literally ! However I also see a lot of people are having fun with this one!1 -

Good morning. I am leaving soon to meet the Library ladies and early this afternoon I am meeting the Tai Chi instructor to try to learn a bit of 24-form which is on my list of “things I want to learn soon”. Haaaa. Let’s hope my body and brain memory agree with my wish.
Yesterday I received a wonderful package from a relative although I am never clear on describing relationships. The lady is the wife of a son of one of my dad’s cousins. A sister to the gentleman I send cards and notes to often as he and my dad were very close. Anyway, she put together some family history and has been working on the project three years. Oh goodness, I will be looking through it for a long time with all the complicated marriages, divorces, deaths, births, adoptions. Oh my!
I was very pleased that she remembered I had asked for a picture of her mother-in-law (my dad’s cousin) as a young woman. I had never seen one. I expected an email attachment but she sent two actual photos. One was on her wedding day and the other on their 25th anniversary. So lovely. I swear she does not look like 25 years had passed. Anyway, so considerate of her and I sent her a gushing thank you last evening during our thunderstorms and pouring rain. Yeah iPad.
Buzz, such endurance to get everything straightened out. Excellent. Now more rest I hope. Windows just did a huge update on my laptop. Argh. It looks like they installed McAfee although I do not want it. And automatically set my Defender to send samples of any problems I have. I turned it off and they then said my computer was at risk. Hate this.
Anne, I really thought Mr. T. believed the burning down the White House story. It would be typical wouldn’t it? Enjoy the shopping trip. Hello Jilly.

Hi ho everyone! Muggy day again. Where do these people live that do not believe in climate change and global warming? Huh? This has been such a cold and wet spring. We are still using our space heater.
Lin: I had an uncle that was a pilot and he researched family all over the globe. He wrote a book and included photos and copies of important documents when he found them. He then published copies for family members. This undertaking was his lifetime project and was extremely expensive. Odd note here...every family had an artist and a musician!
Anne: so glad you exercised your right to vote. Things may not turn out the way you want but you let your voice be heard. I always have this quickening feeling, I am grateful that we can vote, be a catalyst for change. It gives me hope. Not that I am an idealist or anything.....
Sandy: I have heard Hamilton was spectacular. Lucky you!
I will be making a veggie casserole so that there will be leftovers. Friday is our night for some sort of weekend thing. There is a favorite restaurant that features burgers and blues on fridays. They serve a vicious black bean burger. The blues is often a group our friend plays in. He isn’t doing too well, he often just sits in but rarely plays. He has a happy look on his face and he taps his foot to the music like he always did. There must be some part of his brain still making music.
I am going to cut a big bunch of my calla lilies for the dining room table. They are so beautiful. I even talked to John about a garden room like Jackie’s. We just can’t figure out where to put it. I guess it isn’t practical for The Shape of our house.
Can’t believe it is June 7th and I am in a wool sweater.

Happy Thursday!
Taking the kids to the airport then going out for an early dinner with friends. I am so exhausted from packing but will carry on. My son and his wife come tomorrow so hopefully we will get everything packed. I will call the mover tomorrow to set up a date to give myself a deadline. Moving is hard!

I am what is known in certain quarters as knackered. And that goes for Jilly as well. The Usual morning stuff plus long walkies. Then a trot to the polling station around the corner in the senior centre, Mike shows up, he takes the Bean for another long walk and I prepare lunch. Lunch over we all walk to the mail boxes, then sit in the garden and play "fetch the ball" after which Mike drives home. The Bean and I retire to the sofa for a nap when the doorbell rings. It's Mark who's decided to start clearing the garage of rubbish in time for Junk Pick Up Day tomorrow. Mainly building wood from past projects. Jill is ecstatic, two favourite people in one day. I help Mark, Jilly helps by barking at passersby who might steal our junk, passing dogs and one lone fox. Finally Mark has put out our allotted amount, plus some in front of my empty neighbours house. The ones in Croatia. Mark goes home, Jill falls asleep on the sofa and I'm writing down my exciting life for you all to share!
I want to keep awake late tonight to see if the chap I voted for got in. His party was the only one out of five parties to knock on my door, phone me, and post me literature, and so he got my vote. Actually he is our current MP and has done quite a lot for our area. So, I voted for the person rather than the party.
Grocery shopping tomorrow. I think Mikes getting bored!

Jackie! I have every confidence your cataract procedure will be a snap. The thing I remember most about that is afterward....amazing difference in colors and clarity of images. Wonderful. And since they usually only do one eye at a time, it just gets better with the next eye. Our thoughts are with you.

Many of us are between 65 and death, i.e. old. My friend sent me this excellent list for aging . . . and I have to agree it's good advice to follow. The guy who sent this hi-lighted #19.
1. It’s time to use the money you saved up. Use it and enjoy it. Don’t just keep it for those who may have no notion of the sacrifices you made to get it. Remember there is nothing more dangerous than a son or daughter-in-law with big ideas for your hard-earned capital. Warning: This is also a bad time for investments, even if it seems wonderful or fool-proof. They only bring problems and worries. This is a time for you to enjoy some peace and quiet.
2. Stop worrying about the financial situation of your children and grandchildren, and don’t feel bad spending your money on yourself. You’ve taken care of them for many years, and you’ve taught them what you could. You gave them an education, food, shelter and support. The responsibility is now theirs to earn their own money.
3. Keep a healthy life, without great physical effort. Do moderate exercise (like walking every day), eat well and get your sleep. It’s easy to become sick, and it gets harder to remain healthy. That is why you need to keep yourself in good shape and be aware of your medical and physical needs. Keep in touch with your doctor, do tests even when you’re feeling well. Stay informed.
4. Always buy the best, most beautiful items for your significant other. The key goal is to enjoy your money with your partner. One day one of you will miss the other, and the money will not provide any comfort then, enjoy it together
5. Don’t stress over the little things. Like paying a little extra on price quotes. You’ve already overcome so much in your life.You have good memories and bad ones, but the important thing is the present. Don’t let the past drag you down and don’t let the future frighten you. Feel good in the now. Small issues will soon be forgotten.
6. Regardless of age, always keep love alive. Love your partner, love life, love your family, love your neighbor and remember: “A man is not old as long as he has intelligence and affection.”
7. Be proud, both inside and out. Don’t stop going to your hair salon or barber, do your nails, go to the dermatologist and the dentist, keep your perfumes and creams well stocked. When you are well-maintained on the outside, it seeps in, making you feel proud and strong.
8. Don’t lose sight of fashion trends for your age, but keep your own sense of style. There’s nothing worse than an older person trying to wear the current fashion among youngsters. You’ve developed your own sense of what looks good on you – keep it and be proud of it. It’s part of who you are.
9. ALWAYS stay up-to-date. Read newspapers, watch the news. Go online and read what people are saying. Make sure you have an active email account and try to use some of those social networks. You’ll be surprised what old friends you’ll meet. Keeping in touch with what is going on and with the people you know is important at any age.
10. Respect the younger generation and their opinions. They may not have the same ideals as you, but they are the future, and will take the world in their direction. Give advice, not criticism, and try to remind them that yesterday’s wisdom still applies today.
11. Never use the phrase: “In my time.” Your time is now. As long as you’re alive, you are part of this time. You may have been younger, but you are still you now, having fun and enjoying life.
12. Some people embrace their golden years, while others become bitter and surly. Life is too short to waste your days on the latter. Spend your time with positive, cheerful people, it’ll rub off on you and your days will seem that much better. Spending your time with bitter people will make you older and harder to be around.
13. Do not surrender to the temptation of living with your children or grandchildren (if you have a financial choice, that is). Sure, being surrounded by family sounds great, but we all need our privacy. They need theirs and you need yours. If you’ve lost your partner (our deepest condolences), then find a person to move in with you and help out. Even then, do so only if you feel you really need the help or do not want to live alone.
14. Don’t abandon your hobbies. If you don’t have any, make new ones. You can travel, hike, cook, read, dance. You can adopt a cat or a dog, grow a garden, play cards, checkers, chess, dominoes, golf. You can paint, volunteer or just collect certain items. Find something you like and spend some real time having fun with it.
15. Even if you don’t feel like it, try to accept invitations. Baptisms, graduations, birthdays, weddings, conferences. Try to go. Get out of the house, meet people you haven’t seen in a while, experience something new (or something old). But don’t get upset when you’re not invited. Some events are limited by resources, and not everyone can be hosted. The important thing is to leave the house from time to time. Go to museums, go walk through a field. Get out there.
16. Be a conversationalist. Talk less and listen more. Some people go on and on about the past, not caring if their listeners are really interested. That’s a great way of reducing their desire to speak with you. Listen first and answer questions, but don’t go off into long stories unless asked to. Speak in courteous tones and try not to complain or criticize too much unless you really need to. Try to accept situations as they are. Everyone is going through the same things, and people have a low tolerance for hearing complaints. Always find some good things to say as well.
17. Pain and discomfort go hand in hand with getting older. Try not to dwell on them but accept them as a part of the cycle of life we’re all going through. Try to minimize them in your mind. They are not who you are, they are something that life added to you. If they become your entire focus, you lose sight of the person you used to be.
18. If you’ve been offended by someone – forgive them. If you’ve offended someone - apologize. Don’t drag around resentment with you. It only serves to make you sad and bitter. It doesn’t matter who was right. Someone once said: “Holding a grudge is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die.” Don’t take that poison. Forgive, forget and move on with your life.
19. If you have a strong belief, savor it. But don’t waste your time trying to convince others. They will make their own choices no matter what you tell them, and it will only bring you frustration. Live your faith and set an example. Live true to your beliefs and let that memory sway them.
20. Laugh. Laugh A LOT. Laugh at everything. Remember, you are one of the lucky ones. You managed to have a life, a long one. Many never get to this age, never get to experience a full life. But you did. So what’s not to laugh about? Find the humor in your situation.
21. Take no notice of what others say about you and even less notice of what they might be thinking. They’ll do it anyway, and you should have pride in yourself and what you’ve achieved. Let them talk and don’t worry. They have no idea about your history, your memories and the life you’ve lived so far. There’s still much to be written, so get busy writing and don’t waste time thinking about what others might think. Now is the time to be at rest, at peace and as happy as you can be!
REMEMBER: “Life is too short to drink bad wine and warm beer.”

Yea! Hooray! For Sandy and Buzz! Dear ones that is so timely for me. Thank you. The day is to be Oregon wet. It is trash day. I have things stacked up on my MUST DO list. One of my current life lessons is to try to do things with intention and enjoy the process. When I am mindful I am much happier. Many of Buzz’s wonderful life lessons have that built in. This is Friday. The beginning of a weekend. Wishing you all a great weekend.

Happy Friday! Starting the day off good with getting back to goal weight. Took forever to get my kids to the airport (they choose the further one from me because Southwest flies out of Midway and not O'Hare so as not to pay for luggage). I then met my friends for an early dinner being about 15 minutes late. We had a good time but today my son and his wife arrive.
I have some errands to run including donating some stuff to the Salvation Army Store. I hope to get to new place to put some kitchen stuff away but I know my DIL will help me. I have some calls to make and have to start changing address for all my billing. I just want to be done by July 1 since I know I will be needed to sit for the boys when Lisa delivers the new baby.
Have a great weekend and I will try to keep checking in but need to get moving today.

The procedure went without a hitch so in no time after the usual cup of tea and couple of biscuits I was settled in a comfy chair in reception wearing an eye patch waiting for my ride home. My neighbour drove my car to collect me because we had a huge fuel price hike after all the unsettling trade barriers being announced from a certain quarter and i didnt want her paying for the journey.
Spot on PATSY, the clarity of vision and beautiful sharp colour's surrounding me are a total surprise because although I was aware my sight wasn't great I hadn't appreciated I was living in a sepia world. My other eye should have the same procedure in a couple of months so I must do plenty of Spring cleaning beforehand because I'm shocked at just how much dust and grime I wasn't seeing, even cobwebs between the ceiling beams!
The biggest laugh my neighbour had this morning when she checked if I was ok was when I told her of my shock when standing at the mirror to put eye drops in and discovering I've aged 20 years overnight!!!
George has been walked locally as I won't drive for a couple of days and I will now make a pot of coffee before beginning the big clean. Another scorcher for us so better to be in the cool cottage.
Nearly lost my post so finishing before it happens for real.

Now, time to fly along. It is the monthly club meeting this morning. The club where most everyone knows everything. But not me. I just limp along. It will be a good start, I need to get some birthday cards and some general hello cards finished. Well, have to start them first. Haaaaaa.

Saturday is fun day or at least part of it is. John is busy changing the lights and liners in our flea traps. We have many fleas here in oregon. since we do not like to poison things, this is our way of protecting Katie from fleas. it works!

Happy Saturday! I am so upset I could cry. My landlady asked me Thursday if she could come here with some guy about the cabinets. She evidently is getting new ones. Anyway when I was leaving my house to go to the new one she was outside and found out the guy who was meeting her had her number wrong so he left before she got here. In lieu of that she asked if she could see my new place and did nothing but nitpick it to death. Then the subject of painting came up and she again reminded me that no nail holes were allowed. My SIL did a great job in fixing all of them but there are places you can see where he touched up. I explained that the stick on things she wanted me to use are what caused the damage but my gut says she is not going to bend and I think she will end up keeping my whole security deposit. I did book my mover for next Thursday the 14th but now I don't think I will let her know I am moving early which she was hoping I would do. If I do then I would expect half a months rent in return but I am so bad on confrontation.
Just needed to vent!! My son and his wife went to a Cubs game with his father. I am going back to new place and try and get something done.
