Time for my morning coffee, then some breakfast and I will be ready to face the day. Its chilly right now, but we do have sun. The next two days will be lots of rain and snow in the mountains.
The crowds have been horrible when shopping this year nevermind the crazy drivers on the road. With so many shopping parking is crazy too. Tried to get a few items on the internet, but sizes are sold out. This meant another trip out to "the store" my 3 gdaughters love. Was able to pick up a few things at Target after a drs appt. Time to take inventory...lol I think 2 gift cards and I am done. 5 grandkids keep you young ???? I aged a bit definitely scouting out what they wanted and found they were sold out.
The tree is up, the 3 Santas brought out and the Christmas wreath is on the door. No village this yr. A lot of work, so not getting done this yr.
Mincemeat pie.....YUM ! We were introduced to that as kids. Always had that along with a pumpkin . Must have been tradition for my 3/4 s British heritage. Now crab cocktail made by my Dutch grandmother for our appetizer was so good too. My grandkids are picky eaters, so pumpkin pie is a go. Mincemeat pie we keep for us to enjoy.
New garage door opener getting installed by my husband and neighbor. It was time for the 20 yr old one to get replaced. Another item crossed off the list of the to do items around here. Jackie did your chimney get lined ? No fireplace here and I miss it so much !
Well I need to move along. Sounds like everyone is enjoying this festive season. Jeri hope you are back safely from your trip. May all your past memories of the holidays with your sister bring you a bit of joy. We have you in our prayers right now. Hello to all of you sweet Sneakers. I am thinking of you.

Our lobbies have all been decorated and there are lights, trees, wreaths all over the place and it looks like the holidays are in full swing. Several Hannukah tables as well, and a potato pancake party is happening later in the month. I ay be starting to feel more human again, as I have expected, and did not need the oxygen continuously today. I must take balance classes, too! Now am grateful for our weather, and must get down for dinner. Enjoed everyone's posts, and wish I could operate a bit faster so I could write an interesting message!

Good morning. I am packing for the library. I will take too much of some things and not enough of others. And of course there are the forgotten items. I am so accustomed to just wandering off and picking up what I need/want when working at home. And I am not good at taking just one project and working on it the entire day, I need more variety. 🙃
Maybe I will come home for lunch today and have something warm to eat. That would be very nice. It is a chilly day and the room where we set up can be quite cold as well.
Buzz, it must be beautiful with all the decorations. Glad to hear you did not need the oxygen continuously yesterday. Feel better my friend.
Diane, I agree with you. The few shopping trips I have made have been ridiculous. So many people out and about. You would think no one works these days. Well, I don’t but who are all these other people! I guess I can jump on the pie bandwagon here. My grandmother made mincemeat pie. She bought some dried fruit mix at the store but she never actually made the pie while I was around so I am not certain what else was in it. All I know is my dad curled his lip when he saw it and never ate any. My mother was always too full to have a piece (but no curled lip). I of course did not try it either. There was usually pumpkin and or pecan pie served at the same time. I liked both. Soooo, I have never actually eaten any.
Jackie’s lovely knitted ornament. People are so incredibly handy. Love the little jingle bell. Does George avoid the ornament as he does the groomer?
Sandy, how was the trip for the oil change? Busy? I like your decorations. Your little ones are indeed precocious. Waaay too smart! Lovely to be bright but perhaps some of the childlike magic is already tarnished. I was willing to suspend everyday belief as a child. Well, maybe I do now as well since I enjoy fiction so much.
Anne, the grocery deliveries I have experienced are not a bit like yours. The company just hires people at random to pick the items from the store and they deliver in their own car. It makes me nervous now to think of it. The last delivery I got was from a talkative young woman with a bunch of kids in the car. She said she had never set foot in that store until she picked my order. She was down to the area visiting her boyfriend and was looking to make a little money. Argh!
Back to my random selection process. 😉
Hugs. Best wishes.

Ladies! It's cold outside.
Never mind, a super day to get down to some serious writing. Not that serious I must confess. I get the giggles when writing of the antics of my fictional little family. Mind you it doesn't take much to amuse my little brain.
Still thinking shall I decorate or not. Not is winning. After all the place looks quite Christmassy all year round with the pale yellow walls and rust coloured drapes. I'm addicted to colour I have to confess. Clothes as well as furnishings. That's why I wear a lot of white shirts to tone down all the other stuff. My daughter in law is very pretty but for some reason favours a wardrobe of black and white and grey. She would look gorgeous in lilac tones I privately think.
Mincepies or "lucky months" as we used to call them. I like homemade the best, sprinkled with granulated sugar before baking. I usually bake them on Christmas Eve and gorge until twelfth night.
You can buy the glorious fillings in jars. Raisins, currants, candied peel, glacé cherries, suet etc and all held together with a good old dollop of Brandy. Mm, I'm getting the urge for a mincepie!
LIN I wish you had our delivery service. It really is good. I've not had one bad item delivered so far. The leg of lamb I ordered for the family looks excellent and is so big I shall have to order a foil roasting pan next week. I don't drink alcohol much but you can order that as well except you need proof of age on delivery. No problem here if I order wine for our dinner!!! I ordered chocolates for the neighbours this week.
Well, I'm withering away as is my wont and not getting down to business like I should. Wont- lovely old fashioned word for those of you who think I've made a spelling mistake, hee hee !

Happy Saturday! Going to Mass with Joe today so we will stop and eat after. I did all the laundry including my comforter and blanket so everything is nice and clean. Exciting right??
I added some poinsettias to my decorations just for more color, now I am done.
Anne, I never had mincemeat pie nor do I think I want any. It reminds me of fruitcake served at Christmas which I never eat. My favorite pie is key lime which I love.
Lin, everytime I take my car for an oil change they find something else to cost money, this time to the tune of $300. I told him not before Christmas but I will get a second opinion from another place that I trust. Ugg.
Diane, I try to stay away from stores around the holidays but as you say sometimes you can't find what you want online. Luckily all my shopping for the kiddos is done. Lisa gave me all the suggestions early so all I have to do is wrap. The older grandchildren get checks as I would have no idea what to get them.
Hello to everyone else, hope your day is perfect.

Watching news pictures of the fires burning north of Sidney in Australia.... frightening! Here It was bitterly cold on the moors with driving freezing rain in my face so we had a shorter walk than usual although I did climb quite high so my muscles were stretched. An early snack lunch then outside to cut up wood and chop into pieces for kindling. I can remember chopping kindling with a small hand axe on the kitchen step when I was about 7 or 8 so not much has changed in my life! 😁. Once I’d filled a large basket I got to work on a composting area and almost completed it before my feet became too cold to stay in the garden.
To me shop bought mince pies are like hot cross buns in that they always look enticing but are never as enjoyable as I anticipate. Anne has the right idea... plenty of brandy in the mix! 😜. Yesterday’s beef stew took 9 hours in the slow cooker but is worth the wait and I’ll steam green veggies to go with It once I finish posting.
Sandy, seeing your photo reminds me I meant to tell you how I smiled at your story about asking your neighbour if she minded you putting a red light above her door. Should I assume you don’t have what we call red light districts in your part of the world? Google search if not! 😂🤣
Lin, George is safe from Debbie Woof Woof’s Knitted wonder as it’s hanging on the door of a wall cupboard.
I’ve enjoyed a cuppa and the fire is roaring so time to prepare my evening meal.
Happy Saturday everyone and stay safe.
Jackie0 -
Jackie, yes I know what a red light district is which is why I asked for permission to put a red light in their light. lol
Something to make you all smile:

Smiling SANDY, and also about the red light!
My cousin lives on the outskirts of Sidney JACKIE and watches the fire trucks race by every day. New Zealand firemen are helping the Aussies, but yes very frightening. They are having to cut foliage away from the roofs of their houses where she lives and having to ration water because it hasn't rained for ages. I am worried about her. I hope she keeps her cat in, he was a stray and loves to roam. Anne.0 -
Hidy Ho sneakers. We have been very busy at our house. The console for the new TV came and.....oh dear! Some assembly required. Of course they promised that it was a 15 to 30 minute job. Well, John is an old dude but he has worked with tools and is very handy. He has built a mountain home/ski lodge all by himself with help from two kids and an a clumsy wife. And works on his cars constantly. This console came in pieces, beautiful finished wood with inadequate instructions and missing parts. Needless to say, it took way longer than 30 minutes. But it is together now. The next challenge is to get this huge TV up on the sonsole and wired up with the DVD player etc. no small feat, I can tell you. Where are those grown able-bodied kids we raised? Humph! They are off living their own life!
Next, laundry, making Katie’s pumpkin cookies, dinner will be turkey tacos and guacamole. I am researching publishers for the writing project that Anne and I worked on a couple of years ago. As you might guess, Anne is far more efficient than I am.
I am feeling positive that things will be interesting, full of challenges, full of promise and full of surprises from this moment on.
We can start saying it now...happy holidays!
Patsy☘️🎄1 -
Happy holidays PATSY. You bet........2020 will be a glorious year for us all!
I've been busy writing this afternoon. I enjoy that part with the old grey cells ticking, but when it comes to publishers - efficient I am not! All sorts of ideas buzzing for drawings and writings though.
Good luck my friend on your endeavour. Consider British and Canadian publishers. Lots of American authors use British publishing houses. Think Elizabeth George etc
Anne.

PS. Just been to the mailbox with Bean and more sad news in the incoming cards. Our family grows shorter and shorter as cousins pass away. Let's all really celebrate 2020.0 -
My loves, feeling a smidgen better today but have a way to go. And I am dealing with a crazy again tonight! Which has suddenly gotten too late once more. Basically I'm here to say HI and Goodnight and I'm mending. rying to keep up with all your posts and wishing you a Happy Weekend

Good morning friends.
I am at church and communion is prepared. The kids are practicing for their program. I came downstairs and it sounds like a herd galloping overhead.
Hope all is well. Hugs.

Happy Sunday! A stay at home day with nothing to do except a video call with my kids. I did not wrap presents yesterday so maybe today is the day. lol
I did call the mechanic that I trust and I am bringing my car to him tomorrow morning. It should be half the price and he won't take advantage of me.
Nothing else exciting going on so I wish you all a great day.

Good morning. Well, I guess it is morning. I am having one of those mornings where I can not get my body up and running. I Am sitting in my chair, wrapped in a warm little blanket, clutching a mug of hot coffee. My eyes keep slowly shutting and I could just sleep the day away. Not a good idea. I would feel awful if I did that.
John bought a very small Christmas tree that sits on our hearth. It is lighted and has decor. I will put on a few favorite ornaments just to remind me of the sweet old days. Our huge tree that we have stored in the garage is so heavy and is up in the rafters. It is very difficult to bring inside and set up. So in a weird way, we are trying to downsize. I have decorated as best I can with things that are easy to place around. I actually NEED the colorful holiday decor to keep me in a Christmas mood. The dark winter brings on my Seasonal Affect Disorder. Not pretty! But the colorful lights etc do the trick.
I think I will crawl into my dungeon and work at my desk for a while. Maybe if I drank a bit more coffee, a few brain cells will start firing. Hope! Hope!
Be good little girls, Santa is watching you.....

Drat!! Nearly finished my post when the battery died. 😢😭😤🤪. Will try to get back later this evening.

Oh dear PATSY, in contrast I've had a gorgeous day. I started off feeding me and the Bean breakfast and typing my latest book chapter.
Then Michael showed up and we went to the stores with Bean. I'm charging around with my cart and caught the edge of a display. The display came crashing down, Xmas goodies all over the place! Horrors! Two lovely ladies and a very nice Chinese gent rushed over and full of Christmas spirit assembled it all again. This shows I'm no longer fit to be let loose in a store on my lonesome!!!
By now red faced and looking as if I'd been into the port wine early I continued with no further mishaps.
We came home for lunch, and three dog walks later Mark and Mary Jo showed up. Jilly Bean was ecstatic. The Ms think I will be here for at least another six to nine months! So me and the Apple trees live to see another spring and summer for sure. That is if I have no further mishaps cross fingers.
The best news of all, we are all assembling at the Ms house for Christmas Day and oh joy, Christmas pud for dessert!
It's getting to FEEL a lot like Christmas here!

Still can't sit for more than a few minutes but just remembered this mess of boxes and papers sitting on top of my shredder (short of space) beside my desk is all sitting on a laptop raiser I bought over a year ago in a Relax the Back store! So I just spent ages rediscovering how to open and use the thing without collapsing it ot me....so it's suppertime and I must go eat! Honstly, I think I felt better today than I have in awhile so I'm using my keypad and mouse and standing up! lacking the old patience but not my caring for my dear friends!

Another day almost done with a lot accomplished. Finished up with the gift cards that I needed to buy as well as finally finding some silver small hoops that my 8 yr old granddaughter wants. She is the child, along with her Dad, that have birthdays on Dec 22nd. What I had planned on for her birthday they were out of her size, so the jewelry was my last idea after her request. Being 8 I didn't want to get too big of hoops for her age. They all want to grow up so fast these days !!
Anne....laughed myself silly. My brain seems to be slipping when I least expect it. Mincepies written by you got pronounced as Min ci pi..es, so I figured it was just another British word I wasn't familiar with. Thinking I was going to have to look that one up. However your last word in the sentence again was mincepies. The light bulb finally went on. lol Did you have your catastrophe in the store on a riding cart or were you pushing it ? Have a friend that had us laughing when she utilized the riding cart for the first time after some surgery. I know my time will come soon enough.
Fruitcake....always had a lg circular tin of this at Christmas. It was so good and I again looked forward to it. When I was in my early 20s living in Calgary a friend would make the traditional family fruitcake in October for it to be perfect of the holidays. It was so fun to be a part of the festivity and it tasted delicious. Often think of this dear lady. She isn't around any longer. She was my friends Aunt and became Auntie Norma to me as well. Great memories. Got my Christmas carols going. I can never have them on enough. You will find me singing with them. I was brought up in a church choir as well as singing annually with the Camp Fire girls and then my jr high choir too. Special memories because my teacher eventually became my step-Dad after my own Dad passed. Noticed this was all missing when we walked thru the mall shopping...no music at all and minimal decorations. The best days are behind us I am convinced.
Well thinking of all of you.

No riding carts in our food store DIANE. I hate to think what I'd do on one of those! No, I can create havoc (and merriment) just walking and pushing a normal cart! One lady said it was like a scene from a Christmas comedy movie with all the scattered Christmas candy canes! Shan't be going back for some time. Delivery is safer for this old gal! I suppose I could wear a false moustache and a Stetson?
Mike is a sweetheart; he said it's the stores fault for cramming everything into narrow aisles! The aisles were even narrower by the time I'd finished, lol.
Morning all.
Anne, the unabashed.

I will be back later.

Hello, I was out early with stops at the post office, the senior center for a newsletter, and the grocery store for some bananas. Oh my, they had a bag sale today, 20% off all produce. I bought a bit more. The weather was grey, damp and windy. Now the predicted rain is coming down in white flakes with periodic wind gusts reminiscent of winter storms. ❄️❄️❄️ AKA blizzard conditions. We may not have much snow in total but I am happy to be home for the day.
I just saved my post just in case there’s a malfunction. The app keeps closing with no notice. I am in a browser version right now and so far so good.
Sandy, I hope you get the car fixed for a much lower price. My friend told me yesterday she took her car in as some dashboard light came on. Her repair was $300 but luckily part of it was under warranty.
Anne, by the way, I do agree that stores are packing so much in their spaces now that aisles are becoming cart unfriendly. In fact, in some cases, walking unfriendly.
Diane, good shopping! Wahoo! I purchased my annual supply of Target gift cards yesterday when they were on sale. Now I have ready to go birthday gifts, shower gifts, etc for the coming year and if they aren’t all needed, I will use them and no expiration date.
Buzz, good find my friend. That sounds like a helpful item. If it does not collapse on you of course. 😀
Jackie, darn, I am sorry you lost your post. That means we all missed out on the happenings in your world.
Patsy, a small tree sounds just right. The large trees are heavy and unwieldy at best. That from a person with one tucked in the basement. Maybe I will get it out again some day. It is in a huge sturdy storage bag so it is well protected.
I received this in a newsletter this morning. So true. Music influences my mood so much. And it brings back memories, good and bad.
Hugs all round.
Lin ❤️

The mechanic that I trust gave me wonderful news. Nothing is wrong with my car and no charge. I will never bring my car to Ford again.1

Snow seems to be over, temperature is dropping, wind is howling and so much clean up going on related to a 50 vehicle pile up on I80.
Really happy to be home. ❤️❤️

I am posting with a red face as well, Anne! I have mentioned that John bought me a huge TV for upstairs also a very nice corner TV console. He did his usual great job assembling the cabinet and now comes the huge TV! He had to have help lifting it. I was to help with one end and John the other. Well....I couldn’t lift it! I had to call a sweet neighbor to run down the road and help. We couldn’t even leave everything until Damon, our son, comes on Christmas. The TV was unboxed and in the middle of the living room floor. John couldn’t lift it alone and I couldn’t lift one end. It was embarrassing to have to ask for help. We usually try not to get into situations that require help. But there are times.....
The house is a totally mess now. Plastic packing everywhere. Rearranging the furniture. I will come back later when I get myself better organized. No hope for completely organized but things will get better.
Note to Sandy: I believe you experienced the classic ripoff! Taking advantage of a woman who brings in her car to be fixed (when it’s not broken). I would have been livid! I hate it when businesses look at my grey hair and label me stupid and easily lead astray. It is a current issue that is a scandal.
Later, must vacuum and get some laundry on to wash.

I’ve checked that I have 62% power in my iPad battery so shouldn’t be unceremoniously cut off like last night but I’ve no idea what happened this morning... one minute I was typing the next my Sneakers page flew away!! My post seemed to be so interesting to me at the time but now I can’t remember the half of it. 🙄. The mundane bits, a terrible storm last night with everything thrown at us but by the time I was ready to walk George and Betty this morning the sky had cleared so just a gale to contend with. Once home I loaded the car with bags of rubbish and a few old electrical items to take to the tip and was delighted to finally clear the area because the number of bags had been Increasing since my first hip replacement. I hadn’t thought I’d manage the steps on the side of the huge containers where everything gets thrown in but today I didn’t struggle at all. After lunch I cleaned out the hen house but must think of a way to secure it in place because last night’s gales moved it out of position so the poor little chooks must have been terrified what with thunder crashing overhead as well.
Wow Sandy, was that a Ford dealership trying to cheat you out of money? I’d be tempted to let them know!
Lin that’s so true about music bringing back memories. I hope your visit to the post office wasn’t as frustrating as mine on the way to the tip. Only one person on duty and soooooo slow I was convinced she was half asleep. Such a busy time around Christmas and one lady ahead of me in the queue only had one parcel to Australia but the procedure of weighing, measuring its size, filling out a customs form and sticking labels all over it took over 10 minutes. By the time I’d been served the queue was almost out the door! 🤨
Buzz, it’s so good to read you are having better days even if frustrating
Diane took me back with her reminiscing about her friend’s aunt because when I was a teenager and was living with my dad after my parents split I spent quite a bit of time at friends houses and one dear lady used to make chocolate blancmange just for me and insisted I call her mumsie. I can still see her face so clearly!
Anne, hooray you don’t have to cook this Christmas although I’m guessing that leg of lamb will come out of the freezer at some point. No rush on your moving out sounds good too.
Last night I watched a BBC drama called Elizabeth is Missing about a woman with Alzheimer’s struggling with memories of a past mystery that became intertwined in her mind with her concerns for her friend. Heartbreaking and quite upsetting as it showed so clearly the devastating effects of the disease on the family as well as the person suffering. I think the book is probably better than the drama but worth viewing if it pops up on Netflix.
Must go, a documentary about to begin I wanted to see.
